ytmnd.com - geoboy - 20th September 2005

Hey guys. Tomorrow (wednesday) I will be posting the third YTMND site I've ever made (I don't have a lot). I've finished everything now but I'll be submitting it tomorrow (well, technically today) since sites submitted after midnight and in the wheeee hours of the morning do bad - and that's what time is is right now. I don't know if I should start a new thread for it or not, but anyway I'll need some support, so you'd best vote for it when I post it tomorrow! Heck, even pimp it out on other sites if you can! :D

What will this new YTMND site of mine be about, you ask? Well, it includes Mario, Yoshi, and I was laughing half the time while I was throwing the audio together, so you KNOW it's gonna be good. =P

ytmnd.com - geoboy - 21st September 2005

Okay, my peeps. My new YTMND site is now LIVE! Go vote! Have a laugh! Or not. I can't even tell if it's funny or not anymore. :/

Exactly. How old are those pics, anyway? I just found 'em yesterday...

ytmnd.com - geoboy - 22nd September 2005

Heh... I didn't even see those images were posted here in the Nintendo forum SIX DAYS ago. I first saw them in this thread over at the OverClocked ReMix board two days ago. If I browsed this place more often I would have been ahead of the game! :(

Yup... see? We're better! :)

:D

Yeah, they're easy enough to make, the trouble is finding good images and sounds while still trying to be original (or at least funny).

I made one a while back, though it sucked. Pretty hard.

The owl thing was just weird...

I prefer the unaltered voice of almighty Olmec! I actually remember that old show!

I swear, I'm going to make a Zelda flash animation using his almighty narrating voice.

ytmnd.com - EdenMaster - 29th September 2005

That olmec one is gold, I'd seen that one a couple days ago :D. It's all the more funny if you'e up to date on the many many many MANY different fads that come and got at YTMND. Stapler, KHAAAAAAAN, and NOOOOOOO! are big ones.

ytmnd.com - Great Rumbler - 29th September 2005

Do not want!!

ytmnd.com - Geno - 29th September 2005

http://fartduel.ytmnd.com

I didn't make that, but it rules. :D (One of the few good jokes from the most recent episodes of Family Guy.)

ytmnd.com - Dark Jaguar - 29th September 2005

I am not up to date at all, and I really don't think I want to be exposed to the "fads" of the place. I mean, those things are funny when original, but anything that goes beyond being used twice just isn't funny any more in that place.

Personally I've found the recent episodes of Family Guy hilarious. Sort of odd that the most low brow joke they've done yet is the funniest to you... Hmm...

ytmnd.com - Geno - 30th September 2005

I have to commend Seth for finding a way to make the most immature and juvenile form of comedy hilarious. If they had just farted the whole time, it would've been lame, but the fact that they played that silly little song made it funnier. Though everytime I visit that page, it becomes less funny, so... meh.

Fart humor is hilarious at all times. The more I hear that song the funnier it gets :D

I'm certainly not one of those people who fools himself into believing that he's too sophisticated to laugh at fart jokes. I say lose the false intellectualism and get a goddamn sense of humor! :D

I remember that commercial...

...What is an "emo"? Bobandgeorge has been calling X that for a while and I just don't get it.

ytmnd.com - Geno - 2nd October 2005

Emo is just a new term for Goth. Basically, it's someone who wears lot of makeup and writes dark poetry in their LiveJournal and listens to Linkin Park and thinks they know what real pain is just because their parents made them take out the trash or something lame like that.

ytmnd.com - Dark Jaguar - 2nd October 2005

Don't know what Linkin' Park is, but okay yeah I'm familiar with "goths". So did they change the name or did everyone else in school do it for them?

ytmnd.com - geoboy - 2nd October 2005

Dark Jaguar, you never cease to be out of the loop :D

emo is short for emotional, and Linkin Park is a mostly pre/early teen-appealing band who reached their peek two or three years ago.

ytmnd.com - A Black Falcon - 2nd October 2005

Rock music is overrated. :)

geoboy Wrote:Linkin Park is a mostly pre/early teen-appealing band who reached their peek two or three years ago.

Linkin Park had a peak?

Erm

That would, assumedly, have to mean they were good. A prerequisite that, sadly, they do not meet :D.

ytmnd.com - Weltall - 2nd October 2005

Well, taking everything into context, if something is at any point better than it is now, it has a peak somewhere behind it.

Obviously, as in the above example, this may not be saying much.

ytmnd.com - Dark Jaguar - 2nd October 2005

Okay Illusion, if that's wrong then what's an emo?

And geo, may I say I actually find it enjoyable to be ignorant of popular culture.

ytmnd.com - -iLluSiON- - 2nd October 2005

Sadly, the term "emo" has mainly stemmed off of what music you listen to. It has now become a trend all across the world, and usually the people that are "emo" a.) wear tight clothes, b.) comb their bangs to the side c.) write in livejournals quoting lyrics of their favorite "emo" band d.) go to local "emo"/punk concerts, e.)... the list goes on.

You know what punk rock is, right?? it is something that mainly started in Britain in the mid 70s to early 80s... bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Ramons, Iggy and the Stooges, the Clash, (and many more) started to "revolt" with their music; singing about things that are out-of-the-ordinary. Their lyrics usually went against society and government and they wanted to have a feeling of being "free" with their music. Over the years, punk rock spread to world-wide acceptance, and it became very popular, even with its lyrical content and attitude.
But, with that being said, what the hell does this have to do with "emo"? Well, "emo" music came out of punk music. In the mid to late 90s, bands like the Offspring, Blink 182 and A Newfound Glory made punk music a part of "pop" culture, igniting fires in the hearts of girls all across the country. The "punk" scene was an acceptable standard of fashion and music, and it quickly became a trend. Around the same time as pop punk became popular, in the underground music scene, the "hardcore" bands were making it big as well. There are bands that take some heavy aspects of heavy metal and combine old punk elements into their music (bands like Poison the Well, Thrice, Bane.. etc.). The "hardcore" scene merged with the punk scene a few years ago, and now it's a trend everywhere. Within the whole hardcore scene is a "sXe" scene as well, that is, "straightedge" - not doing drugs or drinking, and various other beliefs are incorporated into this movement. These kids usually have "sXe" or "XXX" tattooed on them and dress like they're from the 80s. Straightedgism is now considered a gang in Nevada and Utah because just last year there was a few murders involved with sXe people. I'm not a member of this scene, but I'm into some heavy metal music, and I've seen these sXe kids swarm around someone who was enjoying a cup of beer and punch him because he was drinking.
Anyways, I'm sidetracking. Again, what does this have to do with "emo"? It has to do with emo because emo, punk, and hardcore are closely related. They are modern-day trends that have stemmed off of music and beliefs. The emo people listen to, well, "emo" music. "Emo" music is emotional music, that is, the lyrics usually sing about breaking up with boyfriends or girlfriends, thoughts of suicide, and trying to love someone that has a mate. In other words, they sing mostly about relationship matters. And that is why they are "depressed", writing in their livejournals about how their life sucks. In all reality, "emo" kids suck, they're the scum of the planet. To me, I don't really mind when girls listen to "emo" music, but when guys do and they have that trendy look to them, well, it just makes me sick. It is even a popular trend now for emo and hardcore guys to wear girls pants.
Can you listen to "emo" music and now be "emo"? Yes. You can. however, if that's the only music you listen to, you have severe problems. When I think "emo", I substitute that word with the word "trendy". They usually shop at stores like Hot Topic (no offense to anyone who shops there - darunia*cough*) and various other stores. But the bottom line is, they all dress the same, talk the same, and like the same music. It's kinda sad. They all have their own little cliques at school and don't really associate much outside of their "emo" clique. What I'm saying seems like a generalization, but I tell you, it's the truth. They are scum.
And no, they're not goth. That's something completely different, however there have been bands that have crossed over the punk music scene with the goth music scene (for example - The band The Misfits)...

ytmnd.com - Dark Jaguar - 3rd October 2005

Oh... well that information was utterly boring.

So in conclusion, the majority of high school kids are pretty much exactly the same as before, only with new three letter words.

ytmnd.com - Great Rumbler - 3rd October 2005

Quote:And geo, may I say I actually find it enjoyable to be ignorant of popular culture.

You don't have to be ignorant of popular culture to not care anything about it.

ytmnd.com - A Black Falcon - 3rd October 2005

Quote:Oh... well that information was utterly boring.

Agreed... I couldn't help wondering why people care so much about such things... then I thought 'some people say that about videogames', but it didn't really change my opinion. :)

Oh yes, and saying "because you listen to music of type X or whatever you're a person of type X" is of course ridiculous...

Quote:You don't have to be ignorant of popular culture to not care anything about it.

But if you don't care about it why should you bother to try to learn about it? I'm not able to identify music by subgenre just by listening to it ("punk rock"? "emo rock"? etc? Uhh... whatever...), and I don't consider that a problem at all... :)
