Thank you Page 2.

edit: I don't mean that personally to any Red Sox fans who may or may not frequent this site (ABF), just that I (and apparently others) am getting sick of hearing about the Sox from every form of media known to mankind.

Hmm... I do wish that they'd won legitimately (and by that I mean "by winning the divison"), but other than that... all I'd agree to is that by winning, it makes the Red Sox like the other teams, as opposed to special... just a team with devoted fans. And in many ways, that's sad... I mean, it's good we won, but becoming 'just another team' is kind of too bad.

Well, I'd agree with a couple of those points (bandwagon fans aren't "real" fans, too much merchandising (though in this day and age it's inevitable), etc), but mostly... just people bitter that their teams aren't as good as the Sox are. :)

Oh yeah, and I could counter with this article.

Oh yeah... and maybe this'll make those stupid Fox announcers shut up about Babe Ruth now? Watching the playoffs last year was awesome... until you turned on the sound...

Haha, loved every minute I spent reading those articles. I hope the Cubs fans are never this annoying when (if :() they win the World Series.

But they don't do this stuff for every other championship. The ONLY place you hear about it is Sport's Illustrated's "Order now and get a video of Team X's amazing championship season, a team themed ball, and a team chair. These are individually numbered, so get yours now. Plus you get 52 weeks of SI and the swimsuit edition." And they do that spiel for eveyone who wins anything.

And I still stand by the fact that Padre fans have waited longer than Red Sox fans did. How does that work? Well, since the Pads have never won, it has been forever since they last won. So ha.

See man, that's the it exactly! Nobody outside of New England ever thought of the Red Sox as "special"- just another team who hadn't won in a long time. We were really just happy cause you took down the Yanks, and did it in such a gutwrenching way.

Derek- I bet Cub fans won't be this bad, cause they don't whine like the Red Sox fans did. :)

The Rangers have never won either, maybe they did when they were the Washington Senators though.

And that's because the Red Sox are more popular than most teams, mostly... and because this is the first time in most people's lives that they've won. So of course it's going to be a big deal and, in this society we live in, overdone.

Then you've been waiting since the Padres were created as a team... it doesn't go back in time before that. :)

Quote:The Rangers have never won either, maybe they did when they were the Washington Senators though.

The Rangers were Senators II -- the expansion Senators. The original Senators did win once, in the 1920s, but that's the team that moved to Minnesota and became the Twins in the sixties (and has since gotten two championships in Minnesota), not the expansion team that started the next year or so that became the Rangers. So no, the Rangers have no wins in their almost-40 year history. Lots of those expansion teams don't have one -- the Expos/Nationals, the Padres, the Mariners, etc...

The White Sox only won once, in 1917, which is obviously before we'd last won... and they don't even seem to care that they never win.

All I got from what I read of that nauseating article is this:

"I, David Schoenfield, am not a Red Sox fan, and as such, I am jealous of their splendid happiness. No one baseball team is as lively, charismatic, or has as big of a fan following (barring the Yankees), and thus, when they win and a huge uproar is heard, I, Davidl Schoenfield, am scared and confused. I'm Davidl Schoenfield."

Sincerely,

David Schoenfield.
