You really shouldn't poke your head into that part of Tendo City.

Nintendo fans just need to come to grips with the fact that Nintendo is not and never will be what is was in the NES and SNES eras.

People buy Nintendo consoles almost exclusively for Nintendo games. And unless a third party game is GameCube exclusive it doesn't sell. Nintendo's not going to get the 3rd party support that Sony or MS have, ever. Nintendo still make great games but the new wave of mainstream gamers who jumped on the bandwagon in the PlayStation era when Sony made it "cool" to be a gamer aren't interested in Nintendo's brand of fun. Games that are "suitable for all ages" aren't cool. Blood and titties are.

Nintendo fans need to except that their console of choice is for playing Nintendo games and whatever exclusives Nintendo can score. If you want third party games go buy a PS2.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 10th April 2005

I don't mind. It's probably because I can't actually buy all that many games, especially new games, but I don't mind... sure, it's annoying to see all the games that come out on PS2 and we don't get, but we get more games than I can buy (much less play!), so it's alright.

Now if GC was the only platform I played games on, perhaps I'd be annoyed, but I've got PC, and GBA, (and N64), so it's fine. Really, didn't we all have to accept the volume of games you get on Nintendo platforms in the N64 era? Nintendo is still making Nintendo-style games, very well, and that makes their consoles worth owning. The lack of other games is annoying, but doesn't really annoy me because I don't buy Nintendo consoles for awesome third-party selections anyway. I don't think anyone does.

Going by that PlanetGameCube article apparently not.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 10th April 2005

They've only had two console generations to get used to it...

Some Things Never Change - Smoke - 10th April 2005

Well it's only been two console generations that it's been like this! The SNES had tons of games and it's last new releases came out in like 97 or 98 in Japan.

Some Things Never Change - Dark Jaguar - 10th April 2005

Only two where it wasn't as well ya know.

What I'm saying is that Nintendo has only been top dog for half the time it's been a console maker.

Some Things Never Change - Smoke - 10th April 2005

And yet Nintendo fans can't seem to come to grips with them not being what they once were. We live in the PlayStation era: Except it already!

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 10th April 2005

I thought most of us had already... maybe I was wrong.

Some Things Never Change - Smoke - 10th April 2005

*Points at PGC article* !

Some Things Never Change - OB1 - 10th April 2005

Nitnendo just needs to actually deliver on that "The Nintendo Difference" tagline, and make people want to buy their systems even if they already own one of the "main ones". And I guess we won't find out until NEXT E3 if the Revolution will actually deliver in that regard. :crap:

Some Things Never Change - The Former DMiller - 11th April 2005

I really don't care anymore if Nintendo is on top. I own GameCube mainly for Nintendo's games, but since I own all three consoles I don't have to worry about the lack of 3rd party support. I still have waaay more games for GameCube than I do for PS2 and Xbox, but that is mainly due to the freebies I got from publishers when I worked at N-Philes. As long as Nintendo stays in the business I will buy their consoles, but if they want to be back on top they have a lot of work to do to change people's mindsets. I don't even think it is possible for Nintendo to be #1 again since Sony and MS have such a stranglehold on the over 13 market.

Some Things Never Change - Great Rumbler - 11th April 2005

I've been pleased with my GC so far.

Some Things Never Change - Weltall - 11th April 2005

Nintendo needs more blood and titties. And Mario needs to cameo in GTA 12.

Some Things Never Change - Great Rumbler - 11th April 2005

GTA 12: Omaha, Nebraska

Some Things Never Change - OB1 - 11th April 2005

He needs a gun like Shadow.

Some Things Never Change - Great Rumbler - 11th April 2005

Yeah that would be totally awesome...and by "totally awesome" I actually mean "incredibly lame".

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 11th April 2005

Yeah, at least they haven't done THAT to Mario yet...

Some Things Never Change - Great Rumbler - 11th April 2005

And likely they won't either, at least as long as Miyamoto is alive.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 11th April 2005

One way Nintendo is better than Sega. :)

Some Things Never Change - Great Rumbler - 11th April 2005

And thank God for that.

Some Things Never Change - Smoke - 11th April 2005

A Black Falcon Wrote:One way Nintendo is better than Sega. :)

One of many.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 11th April 2005

Sega makes a lot of great games... but Nintendo is better.

I've never hated Sega, though. I like the Genesis, always have...

Some Things Never Change - Smoke - 11th April 2005

A Black Falcon Wrote:Sega makes a lot of great games... but Nintendo is better.

Correction: SEGA made great games. The SEGA of old was a worthy advesary for Nintendo. SEGA is now nothing but an empty shell. A mockery of it's former glory.

A Black Falcon Wrote:I've never hated Sega, though. I like the Genesis, always have...

I think the Genesis was a great system. I love the old SEGA games. Now we get Virtua Quest. :crap:

Some Things Never Change - The Former DMiller - 12th April 2005

Sega has really been disappointing since they went 3rd party. Everyone looks longingly back on the Dreamcast, but where did all of those fun games go? Super Monkey Ball is the last non-sports Sega game I can truthfully say I enjoyed. Now we get Shadow wielding firearms and a Virtua Fighter game meant for kids.

Some Things Never Change - Great Rumbler - 12th April 2005

Super Monkey Ball is a great example of what Sega used to be known for: a game that took a unique and crazy gameplay element and made a fantastic game out of it. Now, though, it's all status quo and hardly anything new and different. Well, I guess you could call Shadow the Hedgehog new and different, but certainly not in a good way.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 12th April 2005

Yeah... it seems like since they went third-party they've been slipping. It's sad, but it definitely seems to be happening... they're still Sega, but it's Sega with more mediocre or bad games than usual. I wonder why... just losing the hardware shouldn't have had such a strong reaction. And some of their stuff is as good as ever...

Some Things Never Change - The Former DMiller - 12th April 2005

It's all about the leadership. Sega was in the red when they went 3rd party and it led to a lot of people leaving. So with all of the changes in leadership and ownership it has really screwed them up. There are still some great people still working at Sega, but they can't do it alone.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 12th April 2005

That would do it then, wouldn't it... when companies get in trouble (or in an uncertain ownership situation, which Sega also had with the whole Sammy situation), people leave. They can replace them, but the new people won't be as good. They've still got teams which can make good games -- the sports teams, Virtua Fighter people, Monkey Ball, etc -- but yeah, it's clear that something is missing.

Some Things Never Change - OB1 - 12th April 2005

Correction: Their last great console game was Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. Still the best 3D fighting game ever. Nothing else compares.

All Sega needs to do to regain my respect is release at least one more Shenmue game and finish off the damn story. I hate them for abandoning it.

Some Things Never Change - Dark Jaguar - 12th April 2005

I like Soul Calibur 2 myself.

Some Things Never Change - The Former DMiller - 12th April 2005

I never really liked fighting games so that wouldn't do it for me. Most people consider it a good game so I'll count it, though.

Some Things Never Change - A Black Falcon - 12th April 2005

Yeah, if I had a PS2 I'd probably get VF4.

Some Things Never Change - Smoke - 13th April 2005

I've never played the game much but according to OB1 it's better than sex. It's true, it's true!
