Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 9th May 2005

Quote:Just because some crappy PC pads couldn't do it doesn't mean that it's impossible. The PS2 controller does the four shoulder button thing very well, and it wouldn't be tough to have two shoulder buttons and two triggers.

The Gravis Xterminator is a good gamepad. I'm still sad it broke...

That's not PD0. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

Is it a "cooincidence" that you post the same other screenshot as the one in the VE3D userresponse page does, to also disprove this being PDZ? :) (heh, VE3D removed the 'this is PDZ' thing from the mainpage, but the article link still has it...)

Yes, it is a coincidence. I found the image at GAF.

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 9th May 2005

Ah.

Xbox360 - Great Rumbler - 10th May 2005

So now you've got to wonder how credible the rest of the info is.

Xbox360 - OB1 - 10th May 2005

The rest of the info is real. All of these sites are stealing info from the gaming-age forums, and they mix the fake with the real.

Xbox360 - Dark Jaguar - 10th May 2005

If we can't tell what's whatage, it is wisest to simply assume it's all not real.

Xbox360 - OB1 - 10th May 2005

Assume whatever you want.

Old. :p

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 11th May 2005

Yes, it's from yesterday. :)

Xbox360 - OB1 - 11th May 2005

Old for the internet! :D

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 11th May 2005

Anything more than five minuites old is old for the internet, so that's not saying much. :)

One good move, at least... MS is making an X-Box controller that's also PC compatible.

If they're going to require wireless controllers, the least they could have done was make them rechargable... :(

Xbox360 - Great Rumbler - 13th May 2005

Who says they're not?

Xbox360 - Smoke - 13th May 2005

Quote:You'll have a choice of the plain wireless controller, which runs off of a pair of AA batteries that should give you plenty of play time before running out, or you can also use the rechargeable battery pack (sold separately) with a play-charge cable, which temporarily turns your wireless controller into the wired variety, but only as long as it takes to recharge your gear. That means you'll never have to stop playing, even if it's 2:00 A.M. and the stores are closed. It's an ingenious little piece of equipment. "If your batteries die in the middle of a game session," Ranta told us, "You can just snap the cable in, keep playing, and it's charging your batteries at the same time."

Xbox360 - Great Rumbler - 13th May 2005

Coolness. I hope the Revolution has something like that too.

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 13th May 2005

That's good.

At least it's still got triggers...

Xbox360 - Private Hudson - 15th May 2005

Wait wait..

It's sold seperately, and you're saying it's good?

That's freakin' ridiculous!!

Xbox360 - Paco - 15th May 2005

Do the current handhelds, which also require recharging/new batteries, come with rechargable batteries?

Just curious.

Xbox360 - Great Rumbler - 15th May 2005

It looks a lot like the Dreamcast controller, even more so than the one for the Xbox.

Poorly-placed ones, though.

Xbox360 - Great Rumbler - 15th May 2005

I never used rechargeable batteries with the Wavebird, but then I hardly ever have to change the batteries in it.

Xbox360 - Paco - 15th May 2005

OB1 Wrote:yes

Then that's definitely crap if we end up having to purchase the rechargeable batteries for the 360 wireless controller.

Quote:I never used rechargeable batteries with the Wavebird, but then I hardly ever have to change the batteries in it.

I believe the wavebird gets around 100 hours of gameplay, and some brand of the PS2's wireless controllers get anywhere from 50-300 hours depending on the game and whether or not you have the vibration on.

OMG, anyone remember the little VMU's for the Dreamcast? I must have been changing those every month.

what? Erm

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 15th May 2005

Poorly placed buttons? I'd say that the triggers are just right... having both triggers and shoulder buttons is annoying, but MS is intent on copying Sony in many ways, so it's understandable, sadly.

As for batteries, I thought that the Wavebird came with normal AA batteries...

It did.

Xbox360 - lazyfatbum - 15th May 2005

Good lord, is it just me or do the triggers and shoulder buttons look like a mess? I guess you could put your index fingers over the shoulders and your middle fingers over the triggers; switching your index finger from shoulder button to trigger would be annoying, it's like switching from the Z-Button to the trigger on the GC controller, thank God it isnt used that often as an action button.

Xbox360 - lazyfatbum - 15th May 2005

Yunno I cant help but think that the controller would work alot better if it were like the genny fighting pads where it had six face buttons.

Then you'd have six face buttons and the triggers instead of shoulders and triggers... just looking at it makes my hands cramp up.

The two triggers should be placed lower since they added those two shoulder buttons. Try using the controller s triggers with your middle finger, which is what you'll be doing with the 360 pad. It's too high.

Xbox360 - Paco - 16th May 2005

I must say that the controller looks very nice up close, it's almost sexy. I, however, have a few complaints...

Quote:Speaking of juice, two AA batteries will net you 40 hours of battery life.

That should last me a little over a month, but I don't like it given the Wavebird can net more than twice that. I'll probably just keep it on a wire given that the cords as long as the originals.

Quote:It also makes a total of four shoulder buttons like the PlayStation 2's Dual Shock 2, which turned out to be the best control mechanism for games that made use of four shoulder buttons, like EA's NBA Street series.

I HATE THE FOUR SHOULDER BUTTONS ON THE DUAL SHOCK!!!1 This is the one thing I didn't want MS to do with their controller. It also looks like they placed a pair of them in the awkward location (for me at least) of the Z trigger on the current GC controller. Goddammit.

Perhaps, like the PS2 Dual Shock, not many games will utilize all the shoulder triggers/buttons.

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 16th May 2005

Quote:sorry ABF I tried to hit reply with quote and I hit edit instead so i messed your post all up to hell so yeah..... did you say it alot of times?

Oh, just every time we talk about gamepads... :) You know, how I like 6-face-button pads... the Genesis 6-button is a fantastic pad. The Microsoft Sidewinder is also near-perfect... the N64 controller too. I guess the main argument against 6 face buttons is OB1's that when you're using dual analog you can't use the face buttons much, and that's true, but not that many games use dual analog most of the time, so that's not that important really... six face buttons is so much better for over 90% of games that slight inconvenience for some others (this will always be true for some games, you know...) isn't that bad. But if you REALLY think it's a problem, toss in something like the NGC Z-button... but don't make it four face buttons. It's just an inferior design, and it always has been. The fact that everyone (the console manufacturers that is) thinks it's best is sad...

But yeah, six face buttons is definitely ideal, I would say. Especially when paired with dual triggers, like the Sidewinder... :)

Xbox360 - OB1 - 16th May 2005

Six face buttons, two shoulder pads, and two (lower) triggers would be great.

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 16th May 2005

The thing is, triggers are designed for your index finger, not your middle finger... triggers for the middle fingers just seem unnatural. You'll get used to it, but it's odd... but what do you do? How would you put buttons below the triggers, for the middle fingers to use? That seems like it'd be strange too...

Xbox360 - OB1 - 16th May 2005

Move them lower and it'll be fine.

Xbox360 - Great Rumbler - 16th May 2005

Hey, you changed your avatar again.

Xbox360 - OB1 - 16th May 2005

Yes! It's Revolution time, baby!

Xbox360 - Smoke - 16th May 2005

I agree with ABF on this one, triggers are for your index fingers.

If they just made it so that you never have to press the trigger and shoulder button on the same side at the same time it wouldn't be a problem.

Xbox360 - OB1 - 16th May 2005

Triggers can be used with your middle fingers!

Xbox360 - A Black Falcon - 16th May 2005

Quote:Triggers can be used with your middle fingers!

That Gravis Xterminator had middle-finger buttons. I never really got used to them... it was so odd, these buttons underneath the controller...

(the little triangular ones, on the back)

It was weird. They work, but it's weird... I'd rather have normal triggers like the Sidewinder, Dreamcast, N64, or X-Box controllers have.

Xbox360 - OB1 - 16th May 2005

... you are dumb.

Xbox360 - Sacred Jellybean - 16th May 2005

They CAN be, yes. But does it feel comfortable and natural? Not as much as it does when pulling them with your index fingers(imo).

I mean, come on... when's the last time someone fired a fun with their middle finger?
