Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 1st December 2004

According to Toho, this will be the LAST Godzilla movies ever made, of course they said that before and 20 years later they started making more again, but anyway. They're pulling out all the stops for this one, cities all over the world get destroyed, nearly all the Godzilla monsters come back [even the lesser known ones], and Godzilla [get this] fights with AMERICAN Godzilla [who's CG!!]!!! It's just now being released in Japan so it'll still be sometime before it comes out on DVD. I can't wait to see it!

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 1st December 2004

And it's directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, a famous action director in Japan who also did all of the cinemas for Twin Snakes.

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 1st December 2004

Yeah, it's gonna be awesome.

Godzilla Final Wars - A Black Falcon - 1st December 2004

Also, just a few days ago Godzilla got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 1st December 2004

That crazy old cook.

Godzilla Final Wars - alien space marine - 1st December 2004

What about King Kong? They had a King Kong Vs Godzilla movie once?
He could be in it .

Godzilla Final Wars - Dark Jaguar - 1st December 2004

Yeah, while Godzilla is busy taking on the "ture evil force", King Kong could be holding off like 2 old Godzilla villians at once for him. That would sorta reduce him to side kick, but oh well, I'm sure da Kong wouldn't mind that.

Now, I haven't watched a Godzilla movie since the old black and white stuff. Is Godzilla more than "man in rubber suit" now? That is, is he CG, not just American Godzilla, and if he is a puppet, is it done well enough that it doesn't look like a man in a weird suit smashing cardboard boxes painted like buildings?

Oh well, might as well watch it if it happens to be, the final moment.

So I suppose they finally decided to make American Godzilla part of the "storyline" (for what it's worth :D) and make it a totally different monster.

Godzilla Final Wars - alien space marine - 1st December 2004

Its CGI as is his enemies,But their gonna do it like gollum from lord of the rings with a Puppeteer.

Godzilla Final Wars - Dark Jaguar - 1st December 2004

Um, Gollum was CG...

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 1st December 2004

Godzilla is, and will forever remain, a man in a rubber suit. Some of the special effects are better such as explosions, monster's special attacks, the cities, and so on, but Godzilla hasn't changed. From what I gather the only fully-CG monster is American Godzilla, because that's how he was in the movie.

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 1st December 2004

DJ has never seen a real Godzilla movie before!

And yes the black and white one you saw the was the vastly different American edit, so it's not a real Godzilla movie.

Godzilla Final Wars - Dark Jaguar - 1st December 2004

Special effects fine, though honestly the sparks never really were that bad to me, mainly because I was focusing on how hood-like the head seemed on that guy. Man in rubber suit is truly a brave soul... guy... I think I remember seeing like... Godzilla's son trapped in some power lines and the whole story, rather than be inferred, was basically told as it happened by the crowds of people, who were apparently part time narrators :D.

Anyway, question, is the suit a LOT better looking now? That is, is it really really hard to tell it's a suit? Now, I never really was into that guy, but I am left with one little question. Is Godzilla supposed to be a comedy? I almost think it's intended to be such, in which case leave the suit obvious.

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 1st December 2004

The suit does look better, but you can still tell that its rubber and, quite frankly, that's the way it's supposed to be.

Godzilla Final Wars - alien space marine - 1st December 2004

Dark Jaguar Wrote:Um, Gollum was CG...

A CG puppeteer ,Atleast thats how I would describe it , he puts on a suite that monitors his motions and body shape records it and it looks like lines on a computer and eventually after filming they put in the graphics and art over the lines and dots.

They have some CG cartoons like polar express were they put censors on Tom Hanks face and if he opened his mouth the CG would and show any expression he did.

The have the same thing for video games .

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 1st December 2004

Motion-capturing.

Godzilla Final Wars - alien space marine - 1st December 2004

I saw pictures of Gozilla from final wars and he looked like CG maybe it is Motion Capturing, Although they probaily have improved rubber suites over the years too.

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 1st December 2004

Rubber suits in kaiju movies have greatly improved over the years. Of course they looked fake when DJ last saw them; every special effect looked fake back then.

And to see just how awesome miniature effects have gotten, take a look at the recent Gamera movies.

Godzilla Final Wars - Dark Jaguar - 1st December 2004

Puppet is the oddest way I've heard to describe it...

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 2nd December 2004

Quote:And to see just how awesome miniature effects have gotten, take a look at the recent Gamera movies.

Or one of the newer Godzilla movies like Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, which came out here on DVD a number of months ago.

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 2nd December 2004

Yeah but Gamera doesn't suck.

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 2nd December 2004

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla wasn't THAT bad. :)

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 2nd December 2004

It certainly wasn't Gamera-good!

Godzilla Final Wars - Dark Jaguar - 2nd December 2004

I'm at a loss as to how a giant monster battle movie can be worse, or better, than any other :D.

I was under the impression that one would watch one of those movies purely to indulge in a childish desire to see big monsters beat each other up.

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 2nd December 2004

There's nothing wrong with childish desires to see big monsters beat each other up!

Man, DJ must have strangled her inner child with her inner grumpy old man or something.

Godzilla Final Wars - Great Rumbler - 3rd December 2004

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla tried to inject a gripping and emotional story into the series, but it just ended up being laughable and not nearly as interesting as watching stuff get blown up.

Godzilla Final Wars - Sacred Jellybean - 3rd December 2004

Quote:And it's directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, a famous action director in Japan who also did all of the cinemas for Twin Snakes.

...the cut-scenes in Twin Snakes weren't just direct rips from the original Metal Gear Solid?

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 3rd December 2004

Oh no, they were all-new cinemas, and very different for a Metal Gear game. I personally thought they were too over-the-top for MG, what with Snake jumping off of nukes and the like.

The voice work was all re-recorded as well.

Godzilla Final Wars - A Black Falcon - 3rd December 2004

Weren't they about twice as long total as well?

Godzilla Final Wars - OB1 - 3rd December 2004

I forgot.

Godzilla Final Wars - Dark Jaguar - 4th December 2004

Godzilla Final Wars - Sacred Jellybean - 5th December 2004

Ahh, I see. Thanks. :)
