Shaun of the Dead - Undertow - 29th September 2004

I suppose someone had to make a thread about this movie. If you havn't seen it yet, do so now. I wouldn't call it Monty Python-esqe...which is what every (lazy) American journalist loves to catergorize English comedies as. But, it's still INCREDIBLY funny. If you're a fan of horror movies, and more specifically zombie movies you'll pick up on the numerous clever references. Oddly, it's more scary, and more of a zombie movie than that atrocious RE2 movie was. I highly recommend this overlooked film.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 29th September 2004

Yeah I've been looking forward to this for a while so I'll catch it this weekend or something.

And did somebody actually call it Monty Python-esque? Gah, I hate the American mainstream press.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 29th September 2004

Yea the previews looked really good; but I didn't even know it was out yet---I'll definitely be seeing it soon, though.

Shaun of the Dead - alien space marine - 29th September 2004

RE2 waisnt that bad , Maybe a little cheesy but still good!
How often do you get too see Toronto get zombified and then blown up? We see american cities get blasted 20x over in hollywood! How many times have we witnessed New york being destroyed? *Not including real life destruction*
Huh! Its only fair!:)

To be honnest you just have to accept that RE movies are not for story, Just blood, mutilation , The Torture of seeing art and craft being tossed out of movie making.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 30th September 2004

*has seen Shaun of the Dead like MONTHS ago*

It's good movie, hilarious at times and sometimes it's fairly spooky. It's over-the-top, it's got romance [not really], and it zombies and not the stupid run around kind from that horrible House of the Dead movie either, we're talking shuffling, arms-strechted out, moaning, dumb as a rock zombies and that's just the way they should be. One of the best zombie movies ever, no question.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 30th September 2004

Yeah the dvd has been out in Europe for ages.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 30th September 2004

RE2 was the worst movie ever--almost as bad as its predecessor. It's just a lame, stereotypical action movie, full of clichés, lame plot and bad action...nothing like the games save for (sigh) they dragged Jill Valentine's name through the mud this time. Now, instead of a smart, beautiful chick, she's a super-ninja-smartass-90's-attitude feminazi. :hmm:

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 30th September 2004

After watching the trailer for RE2, I decided that I never wanted to see it. EVER. The writing, the acting, the characters. UGH.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 30th September 2004

Sadly, GR, I lacked that wisdom... but the therapists assure me that I'm making progress every day, and soon---one day---I'll be able to smile again.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 1st October 2004

Be sure to watch plenty of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Family Guy, and Sealab 2021. I'm sure that it'll help you to recover.

Maybe I never saw the first RE movie and maybe also I never played all the RE games except RE Zero. Was it a fantastic movie? no! Was it a aceptable popcorn movie? Maybe...

I certainly hate the director of this movie "Anderson" for taking a dump on both the Alien and Predator legacies.

I just saw Predator! A fucking amazing movie! which proves to me that AVP sucks donkey balls more so then I already thought.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 1st October 2004

RE and RE2 sucked because:

-Nothing like their namesake games.
-Stole the RE title and slapped it on a run-of-the-mill action bang-bang shooter.
-Terrible logic a. (Umbrella nukes a whole city; government doesn't notice.)
b. Zombies rise from the cemetery; barely decomposed.
-Stereotypical: Kill everyone but 1.) The main character 2.) The kid(s)
-Since when is Jill Valentine a ninja-kung fu babe?
-Where's Barry, Chris, Claire, Leon, etc?
-Mind-numbingly predictable.
-Not enough zombies.
-Crappy zombies.
-Mediocre effects.

Shaun of the Dead - alien space marine - 1st October 2004

Its the Nemesis is a good guy thing that was interesting,The story sucked but most movies are like that these days anyway,If you want to blaim sombody blaim the maggot studios who are just there for a quick buck.

I personally believe I could have made a better movie ,though it was still somewhat enjoyable , I expected the worse when I went to see it but a few good parts made it better then I expected.

I think people are tired and burnt out from zombie movies so that could be one reason.

Shaun of the Dead - A Black Falcon - 2nd October 2004

I kind of liked the first RE... it was really stupid that they didn't follow the games at all, but if you ignored the games it was kind of decent...

Shaun of the Dead - alien space marine - 2nd October 2004

Its not bad for a movie based on a game.Id rather see it then those two cheap ass Tomb Raider flicks.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 2nd October 2004

All either RE movie needed was a good, creepy mansion, a hot babe, a great plot, and a pistol...no fucking ninja babes, enormous nuclear bombs, karate, kids in starring roles, or armies of Umbrella goons (where the fuck did they come from!?)

This is an example wherein its very true:

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FUCKIN' TOUCH IT!

I agree to some degree , The movie was a little too put on and technical , it had taken all those spooky feelings that should have existed away because of it. Now the kid didnt have a starring role she was just some plot device like Aliens II just so you could have someone who needed rescuing and give some objectives to the main characters.

The Mansion would have been cool , Be more interesting if they did the resident evil zero plot too , You had the train and abandoned Complexe , the Hot cop chick and the rogue outlaw in it.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 2nd October 2004

What we need: An Resident Evil movie based on the first game, mansion and all that, made in the style of the first Alien movie and a good director. *points to Ridley Scott* Let's get him to do it.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 3rd October 2004

YES, GR! That's what I've been saying since the first RE came out---you must've seen my posts. What you describe would be the perfect RE movie. John Williams composes a spine-tingling score; and both Ridley Scott and James Cameron would direct/produce. Mansion, cool zombies, spookieness...just like REMake. Infact, model the mansion exactly after REMake's, because it was awesome.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 3rd October 2004

I just don't see why the RE movies have to be over-the-top, kung-fu, guns-blazing, action movies with a stupid plot and cheesy acting. Why can't we have a smart, atmospheric, don't-know-what's going-to-be-around-the-corner horror movie that's genuinely scary?

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 3rd October 2004

Only the old B&W zombie classics even come close in that respect.

Its because of studio Demographics and greed! Sadly alot of young teenage boy dont give a shit about story just big explosions lots of violence and over the top CG animation, Simpily because it sells! RE2 movie toped the box office and brought in a decent amount of money despite its lack of imagination and cliche recycled story .

Shaun of the Dead - Private Hudson - 4th October 2004

Darunia Wrote:RE2 was the worst movie ever--almost as bad as its predecessor.

That doesn't make sense.

You don't make sense.

You're a dickhead.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 4th October 2004

ASM: You're quite right, sadly.

Hudson: I took poetic license with calling RE2 The world movie ever, you see; for there are quite honestly a lot of worse movies: e.g. anything by Michael Moore.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 4th October 2004

It's the world movie ever!!!

P.S. Shaun of the Dead is awesome.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 4th October 2004

Shaun of the Dead is awesome. Everyone should go see it right now. *wishes that Shaun of the Dead was showing nearby* :(

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 4th October 2004

Poor Oklahoman...

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 4th October 2004

I dunno---my buddy said it was terrible, and the first joke didn't come for a half hour, and it was just poor...

WHO DO I BELIEVE!?

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 4th October 2004

Quote:and the first joke didn't come for a half hour

Maybe...you're buddy doesn't know what a joke is?

Quote:Poor Oklahoman...

I usually go see movies in Texas, though. Dunno

Wow. <img src="http://www.sighost.us/members/jay803/emotq.gif">

Just see it, for crying out loud.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 4th October 2004

JUST GO SEE THE MOVIE!!

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 4th October 2004

Darunia, your friend is an idiot. The movie is terrific. Watch it!

Texas? There are lots of theaters in texas... don't they have a Best Buy in texas as well? You said there are no BBs near you...

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 5th October 2004

Quote:You said there are no BBs near you...

60 miles isn't exactly "near". I go there sometimes, but only about once every few months.

Quote:There are lots of theaters in texas...

I know. None of the ones that are close are showing it.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 5th October 2004

Well, maybe I will; I just want to be sure because $8 is way to much to throw away on shitty movies nowadays...RE2 reinforced this judgement.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 5th October 2004

If you even remotely like British comedies then you'll love Shaun of the Dead. It really is terrific.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 5th October 2004

8 bucks?! Wow. It's, at most, $6.5 around here.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 5th October 2004

You drive 60 miles to Texas every time you go to the theater?

Shaun of the Dead - Sacred Jellybean - 5th October 2004

Movies cost $8.50 here. :( That is, if you see it at night. It's 3 bucks cheaper if you watch it during the day.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 5th October 2004

Don't you get student discounts?

Shaun of the Dead - UltraMarioMan - 5th October 2004

Let me just say this WESKER COULD KICK ALICE'S BUTT!!

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 5th October 2004

Quote:You drive 60 miles to Texas every time you go to the theater?

Of course not. The town that has Best Buy [McKinney, TX] may be 60 miles away, but the town with the theatre that I go to [Sherman, TX] is only about 25 miles away.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 5th October 2004

Do you live in a ghost town or something? :D

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 5th October 2004

Pretty much. It's about 15 miles in any direction to a town above 500 people.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 5th October 2004

Damn. You gotta move outta there.

Shaun of the Dead - Darunia - 5th October 2004

$6.50!? WTF...!

Don't you get student discounts?

Haha---the only student discount I get is at Taco Bell; I get a free medium drink with the purchase of any two items. It's quite advantageous, really; I get a nice little meal for under $3.

Shaun of the Dead - Fittisize - 5th October 2004

Movies around here are $12.00 at the good theatre in Edmonton, which is a 90 minute drive for most people (less for me). Popcorn costs an additional $10-$12, and gas and the Best Buy that's right next to the theatre and whoever's going on the road trip with me usually runs a $100.00 tab everytime I decide to go out to the city. Which is a lot. Man I'm broke.

Shaun of the Dead - OB1 - 5th October 2004

Those are canadian dollars though. Speak American! :D

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 5th October 2004

Quote:$6.50!? WTF...!

And that's the highest it gets. For the cheaper showings it can go as low as $4.50.

Quote:Damn. You gotta move outta there.

Just give me 4 or 5 years of college and I'll be on my way to Dallas.

Shaun of the Dead - Fittisize - 5th October 2004

OB1 Wrote:Those are canadian dollars though. Speak American! :D

Here's a rough translation: more than I can afford.

Shaun of the Dead - Great Rumbler - 5th October 2004

$12.00 Canadian? Isn't that like 50 cents American, though?
