The greatest US President passed at 93 - Weltall - 5th June 2004

Ronald Reagan passed away a few minutes ago.

So long, Mr. Reagan. God bless you for the great things you did for this country.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 5th June 2004

It's sad, but he has been really sick for years now and has been essentially unable to do or remember anything... a relief, in a way, I would expect, for his family. But sad of course.

I wonder if this will get Bush to concider allowing stem cell research?
I hope I die fully sane so I can atleast say goodbye to my loved ones and not bring pain on them because of such a horrible desease. Whats sad is that some people get Alzheimer's much younger and instead of being to see their grandchildren they behave like small children.

It was the sadness and depression that Piere Trudeau died after losing his son in a avalanche, But unlike Reagan he was lucky to be abled to give his last wishes to his family and even to his country.

I give my sympathy to Nancy Reagan and the Reagan family.

President Ronald Reagan , Did play a big role in the fall of the Soviet union and ending the cold war, He was president during alot of big days in history,The challenger accident ect. Startrek IV the voyage home possibly the best startrek movie. Of course I was Born during his second term.

I remeber in art class we had to find old magazine covers and do portraits of a face on it , I found this old newsweek magazine with Ronald Reagan on it and I said what the hell and I did a portrait of his face.

Reagan was also a established actor long before he was govenor of California and then president. He lead the way for many hollywood actors and famous to get into politics such as Govenator Arnold Swarts.

bad stains on his career , The Iran mess,The Saddam Hussein episode that has lead to two wars since then and thousands of innocent people died because of careless ethics in giving weapons to dangerous dictators who didnt value human rights or freedom.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 5th June 2004

Hopefully he didn't suffer too much in his last years.

Definitely a sad day for this country. You will be missed, Mr. Reagan.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 5th June 2004

It's surprising he lived this long, but now he can rest peacefully. He holds the record for longest living president in history.

Whether we agreed with his policies or not, he was our president and we should all take a moment of silence in remembrance of him. Rest in peace, gipper.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - alien space marine - 5th June 2004

Some people have said to put Reagans head on Rushmoore.

Music please!

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 5th June 2004

I don't think his head should be put on Mt. Rushmore (or on the dime) but that doesn't mean I don't have respect for him; I just don't think either item needs to be modified. They have historic value. (Or at least Mt. Rushmore does. I wouldn't mind if they made, perhaps, a 15 cent piece or $15 bill for Reagan.)

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 5th June 2004

I hope they decide to build some monument or do something to remember Ronald Reagan. He did a lot of good for this country and he deserves to have something that people will see and remember him.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 5th June 2004

Indeed, he deserves at least a monument in Washington. They did name an airport, among other things, after the Great Communicator.

I have had a miniature American flag taped to my monitor since 2002, and it wasn't until a few hours ago that I removed the tape for the sake of lowering it halfway down my monitor. It's the closest thing to half mast as I can get this flag.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 5th June 2004

What, calling the Washington airport the Ronald Reagan Airport and a presidential library in California isn't enough? I'd say more but I think you people already know my opinion on Reagan's policies...

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 5th June 2004

As I said before, whether we agreed with his policies or not (and I, for one, am not a huge fan of them), he was our president and he should be honored at least for the day, if not for his policies then for his personality and spirit.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 5th June 2004

But with an airport after a while people don't even think about the name or where it came from. With a monument or something of that sort everytime someone sees it they'll think of Reagan and his legacy.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 5th June 2004

Yeah, I don't think people think much of JFK National Airport except that the Beatles first arrived in America there. Half the population probably doesn't even know who Kennedy and Johnson Space Centers are named after, and more than half probably doesn't know or even think about who Lincoln, Nebraska or Madison, Wisconsin are named after.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 5th June 2004

Reagan's legacy is the fact that neo-conservatives have taken him to be their top standard. As such any suggestion that he should get even more memorial is much more a statement of political opinion than anything else... and why an appropriate reaction from me would be to critisize his policies...

As in it's nearly impossible to seperate the president from the politics. You just can't do it... Reagan is a case in point -- if you like his policies everything about him seems better, if you dislike them everything seems worse. It works the same way with Clinton, I think...

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 6th June 2004

I liked Clinton's policies and didn't like his character.
I liked Reagan's character but didn't like his policies.

A lot of people who disagreed with Reagan's policies still liked him for his sense of humor. I mean, how many people would've said, "Honey, I forgot to duck." after getting shot? Reagan was much more than the president of the United States. He was an actor, an announcer for the Chicago Cubs, and just an all-around fun person to have around. I know, I speak as if I'd met the guy, but I'm just saying that to many, Reagan was a great man if not a great president.

And do you know who's on the $50 bill? Ulysses S. Grant. He is remembered throughout history for being a great general. He was also president of the United States at one time, but he is claimed by many historians to have been one of the worst presidents in American history. And yet, his legacy lives on to this day.

It wasn't an accident that he was one of the most popular president of the modern era when he left office.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - The Former DMiller - 6th June 2004

I didn't agree with many of Reagan's policies, but he reminds me so much of Clinton in the fact that they both had great personalities that crossed party lines for many people. I'm very surprised that he lived this long, but it is probably more of a relief for the Reagan family as it sounds like he had really deteriorated over the last few years. I don't think Mt. Rushmore should be changed or anything like that, but a monument in Washington would be a nice thing.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Weltall - 6th June 2004

Whether or not you agree with his policies, they are not the real reason he'll be remembered.

He will be remembered for taking an America that was very down on itself from the Vietnam war and the mismanagement of the presidents of the 70s, and transforming it into a happy, wealthy, and stable powerhouse again. Reagan is the one most directly responsible for America enjoying a status other nations only wish they could have.

More importantly, though, is the Communist issue. For decades, our policy was 'containment', we were settling to coexist with a mortal enemy, and because of that, this enemy gradually began to outclass us. Reagan didn't want to contain communism, he wanted to defeat it. He defeated the Soviet Union singlehandedly. He castrated the greatest threat that ever faced America without ever firing a shot, and to me, that is one of the most magnificent achievements in human history.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 6th June 2004

I just bought today's newspaper on my way home from work. As expected, the top headline on all the papers was Reagan's death. This paper now rests in my briefcase given to me by my father, who has preserved several historic newspapers over the years, my two favorites being the ones announcing the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the resignation of Richard Nixon. I really wish I had a September 11th newspaper though. Maybe I can find one on eBay somewhere.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - OB1 - 6th June 2004

I have a local paper from September 12th.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 6th June 2004

I have...nothing.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 6th June 2004

Quote:Recession is when your neighbor loses his job; depression is when you lose your job; recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his job.

:D I'm forever etching that quote into the depths of my memory. Reagan was quite the character.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 6th June 2004

"I'm sorry, honey. I forgot to duck."

Greatest. President. EVER.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 6th June 2004

"Please tell me you're Republicans."

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 6th June 2004

Quote:It wasn't an accident that he was one of the most popular president of the modern era when he left office.

And people like my family can't understand why.

Outclass? The USSR beating us? I don't think that was ever true. Oh, sure, at one point they had more nukes, but when you have that number, isn't it utterly irrelevant? You can already blow up the world many times over... Sure, Reagan's raising our military spending did help speed up their collapse. But it was disasterous for our economy ('trickle-down economics' and the utter failure they were) and culture (decimating arts programs to pay for more military stuff we didn't really need)... it could have been managed much better (as in, not setting off a sizable depression in the end like Reaganomics did...).

The greatest US President passed at 93 - The Former DMiller - 6th June 2004

"I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponents' youth and inexperience."

The greatest US President passed at 93 - The Former DMiller - 6th June 2004

ABF, I agree with a lot of what you said, but I don't think we should be debating Reagan's policies a day after he died. That's just my opinion.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 6th June 2004

They started it by saying they want a major memorial for him... and that quote about "Reagan fixing the Carter depression" wasn't exactly nonpartisan either...

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 6th June 2004

I'm not saying some huge 1100 foot statue to him, but I think he deserves some sort of memorial. DMiller is right though, now is not the time to debate his policies.

Quote:and that quote about "Reagan fixing the Carter depression" wasn't exactly nonpartisan either...

Lighten up. It was a humorous quote.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 7th June 2004

Yeah, even a liberal has to laugh at some of the things Reagan said, like this quote from the 1992 Republican convention:

"The new Democratic candidate claims he is the new Thomas Jefferson. My friend... I knew Thomas Jefferson! And you are no Thomas Jefferson!"

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 7th June 2004

One thing I can say about Reagan is that like Clinton, and quite unlike W, he was a good speaker...

The greatest US President passed at 93 - alien space marine - 7th June 2004

Reagan had experience as a actor , They always said he was skilled in making jokes work to his advantage.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - geoboy - 7th June 2004

Ronald Reagan, the actor? Who's Vice President? Jerry Lewis?

The greatest US President passed at 93 - A Black Falcon - 7th June 2004

"Bedtime for Bonzo" sure sounds like the film that prepared him for the White House, right? :D

The greatest US President passed at 93 - alien space marine - 7th June 2004

George H.W Bush was vice president ,Bonzo was first lady.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 8th June 2004

alien space marine Wrote:George H.W Bush was vice president

He was quoting Back to the Future.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - geoboy - 8th June 2004

I'm glad somebody got it. :D

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 12th June 2004

I got it too.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 12th June 2004

Yeah, ASM, so why don't you just make like a tree and GET OUTTA HERE?!

The greatest US President passed at 93 - alien space marine - 12th June 2004

......

I dont know what you mean by that?

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Fittisize - 12th June 2004

It's another quote from Back to the Future.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 12th June 2004

Well, that's as stupid as putting a screen door on a battleship!

The greatest US President passed at 93 - alien space marine - 12th June 2004

You just said a qoute from the shining.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 12th June 2004

Actually, it's a quote from Back to the Future.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 14th June 2004

Someone has apparently not seen one of the greatest trilogies in movie history.

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Great Rumbler - 14th June 2004

Well, that's a mistake!

The greatest US President passed at 93 - alien space marine - 14th June 2004

How did I qoute back to the future then?

Here is another one.

"He was Bird watching"!

The greatest US President passed at 93 - Geno - 16th June 2004

"He's a peeping tom!"
