Nope, hadn't even heard of it. Perhaps a synopsis is in order (without too many spoilers mind you). Oh yes, the concept of spoilers is kinda an American thing. In many countries, such as France, they go in knowing the whole story already and are there to see how it's executed. This also was the case with lots of old plays, which is why they had those handouts telling you the whole story beforehand when you go to them. Now, that in mind, I STILL hate spoilers because the difference is that movies made today are written with the idea that you don't know the story in mind.
An example of this culture clash is that in France, no one really liked The 6th Sense. I mean, when you know the entire plot from the start, that movie can't be an enjoyable experience.
Oh one other thing. To clarify even more, anime is actually many different styles, sharing only the fact that they are animated. There isn't just one way to draw cartoons. Anime just means "cartoon made in Japan", and it's pretty much slang outside Japan itself. Many different artists have different styles. There is the classic style that's used most in anime today that most people think of, but there's many others, for instance Dragon Ball (not talking quality of the show itself here, just showing an example of different styles) has a very different style than the "norm". Spirited Away, and other Miyazaki movies, also have a distinct style, sort of an "implied detail" thing rather than explicit detail. Further more, Final Fantasy Tactics, and other games I can think of, take that implied detail style to the extreme, lacking things like noses and eye sockets at times (not saying it's bad, because I really like that style). Basically, I'm being a huge nerd here and deciding to point out that the word "anime" is really a VERY broad term that only means "Japanese cartoon", and has nothing to do with style outside of that.

I watched the Ocsars... not sure why, I've only watched them once before, but I did.
As for ROTK getting all 11... eh I don't know. I think some movies deserved some of them... ROTK did great in all those categories for sure but others (I have seen Master and Commander and Pirates of the Carribean and both of them certainly were in the same class as ROTK in many of those categories...) probably deserved some wins. ... but it's LOTR so I can't complain too much... :D
Still, seeing some variety would probably have been better. But it certainly deserved Best Picture and Best Director...

For best director, City of God by a long shot. Yeah I know how great it is that a fantasy movie finally won, but City of God is the better movie and its director did an amazing job. It's especially amazing considering how little these Brazilians had to work with. Very low budget, etc.

I saw Chicago. Two Towers was DEFINETLY better than that.
As for FotR vs. A Beautiful Mind...well, FotR is #8 on imdb.com 250. A Beautiful Mind is #242. There ya go. Tens of thousands of voters from the best movie site on the web can't be wrong. :p (yeah yeah, I know I should see it before I pass judgment...but I'm not all that interested in seeing that particular film)

Yeah but there's so much freaking info for so many movies! And besides, many of the users are pretty intelligient...some of the message board discussions go in pretty deep. When there are 70,000 people voting for a movie, at least 19,000 of them will be stupid. But that goes for all movies, so the top 250 is pretty accurate, I'm guessing.

But these are just movies we are talking about! Not science and physics!! People watch movies, and then vote on what they thought about them. On the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com--every single movie, TV show, actor, actress, crew member that you could possibly imagine. Try and find a movie that you think won't be on that site. It'll be there, as well as a mini-biography and movie chronology for every movie or TV show they have been a part of) tens of thousands of registered users vote for movies they have seen...and about 90% of the time (they got the rating wrong for The Matrix Revolutions) those ratings get it right when I am comparing two movies.
Yeesh, I don't see how that whole world being wrong dealie even relates to movies in the slightest.

Aristotle was smart... for 350 BC... the problem was that his theories were accepted without question for over a thousand years, pretty much, not that his theories were wrong. To get a good theory you usually have to work through wrong ones after all.

Anyway, yes that is true ABF. I'll have to actually look into the stuff he thought of. It's just that, even for the time (they had the same brains as we do you know, and all the technology that Galileo used when he came onto the scene), some of that stuff just seemed silly. There's a reason it's Galileo and not Aristotle who is considered the father of modern science.

If you want Greek philosophers the one we now identify with best is probably Socrates, but he was probably too far from Medieval thought... Aristotle fit better. :) For one thing Aristotle wasn't against empires or kings -- he was one of the tutors of Alexander the Great, I believe...
