Old School NES Question... - Darunia - 22nd January 2004

Don't tell me to find a FAQ. Just answer this simple question:

In Super Mario Bros., level 7-4 is a castle that never ends. It just keeps repeating until you run out of time and die. Nothing changes; it just...repeats into infinity. Surely one of us knows how to break the cycle; what to do to beat it...

Old School NES Question... - big guy - 22nd January 2004

find a faq

Old School NES Question... - big guy - 22nd January 2004

i think you gotta figure out a pattern or something...a certain up down pattern or something. though i don't know it exactly.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 22nd January 2004

Right. Find the correct path.

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 23rd January 2004

Great advice, guys. Haha

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

What? It IS great advice!

Telling him how to beat it would be no fun, it's better to solve it yourself... :)

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 23rd January 2004

But he asked for specific advice.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

But I don't want to tell him what to do! If you really want to spoil the last level of Mario for him go ahead, though...

Old School NES Question... - Dark Jaguar - 23rd January 2004

ABF did help, a lot. Or, are you just trying to make yourself seem like a better advice giver after that whole fiasco with wall jumping? :D

Darunia, yes, there's a correct path. To be honest I'm surprised you didn't notice yourself. If you play the all-stars version (or come to think of it, DX), there's a tone to confirm you chose the right path. Personally, I find that to be insulting. I liked finding out it looped and that you had to choose which way to go myself.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

The original version didn't have a tone? Really? I thought the SMBDX version was just about a perfect copy, of the original SMB anyway...

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 23rd January 2004

Quote:ABF did help, a lot. Or, are you just trying to make yourself seem like a better advice giver after that whole fiasco with wall jumping?

The advice I gave you was more precise than the advice ABF just gave Darunia. He basically said "figure it out". I told you where to move the stick, when to press it, etc. It's not my fault that you suck.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

OB1, always understanding of the idea that different people play games differently...

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 23rd January 2004

Erm

So that's supposed to mean that "find the correct path" is great advice? Whatever

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

Yes, it is. It seems Darunia didn't know that you progress by figuring out which way in the current looped area brings you farther into the level, so I told him that is what you have to do...

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 23rd January 2004

That's like someone asking you "How do I get to the airport?" and you reply with "You just need to find the way to the airport and you're there".

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

No its not! It's telling him the key to how you solve the level without making it too obvious...

And DJ's right, you're making a dumb arguement.

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 23rd January 2004

DJ is just mad at me because I said she sucked at PoP. So she's been cranky about it for weeks. Seriously, it's getting pretty old.

You're not giving any sort of "key" at all. big guy, perhaps. But your amazing "find the way!" comment was about as helpful as a basket full of quadriplegic kittens.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

big guy was not too helpful, that is true. That's why I was more specific. :)

Old School NES Question... - Weltall - 23rd January 2004

Would this be a good time to add that I told him the answer via IM minutes after this thread was made?

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2004

But Weltall, was it precise instructions or "find the right path"? If it was the latter OB1 won't be happy! Rolleyes

Old School NES Question... - Weltall - 24th January 2004

Precise instructions. He ended up beating the game while talking to me.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

Cheap. That ruins all the fun of the game!

Old School NES Question... - Weltall - 24th January 2004

Not for me. That's his problem, one that apparently didn't bother him.

Old School NES Question... - EdenMaster - 24th January 2004

Not to hop into another one of your meaningless arguments, but I side with ABF on this one. I HATE having to ask for help, be it from a friend, a FAQ, or a book.

I have to get hung up a long time to finally get help. I only buy strategy guides after I've finished the game, so I can backtrack and see if I missed anything.

It's much for fun and rewarding to figure it out for yourself.

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 24th January 2004

Yes I know that, and I'm the same way. But Darunia asked for specific help! Yeesh, Weltall is the only other person who got that.

And ABF, big guy actually gave more specific direction than you did.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

I do use FAQs every so often when I'm really stuck... I definitely prefer not to, but if I get stuck and frusterated I do use FAQs on occasion. Especially in games where it's easy to get stuck and frusterated like adventure games... but this is Mario Bros. and that really isn't necessary, and most of the fun of that level is figuring out the puzzle!

And OB1 again if you are so mad that we didn't give specific help WHY DIDN'T YOU?

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 24th January 2004

Yes of COURSE doing it yourself is more fun, but Darunia asked for specific help. Yeesh, you're so dense.

And I didn't help him because I'm lazy.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

So don't complain so much. :)

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 24th January 2004

Muddled

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

Carrot Carrot Banana Banana Carrot Banana Carrot Banana

Old School NES Question... - Great Rumbler - 24th January 2004

I wish we still had that cool smilie with the banana riding on that weird thing.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

I thought someone added it... yeah, where did it go?

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 24th January 2004

What happened to it? And why aren't the carrots moving?

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

I don't know, sometimes the banannas and carrots don't move for me too... and yeah, where did bananna riding go? I was sure it had been added!

Old School NES Question... - Great Rumbler - 24th January 2004

I added it, but I didn't upload onto our site.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2004

Great. And its gone now...

Old School NES Question... - Great Rumbler - 24th January 2004

That thing was cool too...:(

Old School NES Question... - big guy - 24th January 2004

it was the best... and i'd have given darunia more specific info if i'd known specific info.

Old School NES Question... - Darunia - 26th January 2004

I loathe asking for help on a game, and never do it without a heavy heart. But that damn castle was killing me for all of 15 minutes. Most games, I'm proud to say, I do not get help for. It was just an ancient NES game that I wanted to beat, and that was the only part I got help for.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 26th January 2004

That's also the only part in the game that has real puzzles in it...

Old School NES Question... - Geno - 29th January 2004

The correct path is located everywhere except for the places where it is not. Is that specific enough? :D

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 29th January 2004

Oh yes that would help a lot...

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 29th January 2004

As much as your advice did...

Old School NES Question... - Great Rumbler - 29th January 2004

GR: I've been driving around in circles for hours and I still can't find the airport! Hey! Can you help me get to the airport?

ABF: You have to follow the correct path.

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 29th January 2004

Go to a store and buy a map. :D

Old School NES Question... - Geno - 29th January 2004

Where's the store?

Old School NES Question... - A Black Falcon - 29th January 2004

I don't know, you're lost...

Old School NES Question... - OB1 - 29th January 2004
