Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - The Former DMiller - 15th December 2003

Since you changed your birthday at N-Philes I'm pretty sure I have it right this year. You're one year away from buying porn, cigarettes, and lotto tickets! I'm sure someone will come by with a nice birthday picture for you later.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 15th December 2003

Hey, it does say it's his birthday on the main forum page...

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - The Former DMiller - 16th December 2003

So it does. I always just go to "Show All Unread Posts" so I never even see the main forum page. :S

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 16th December 2003

Happy birthday, Johnny!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 16th December 2003

I go to the main forum page, open a tab for each forum with unread posts, and then open a tab for each post I haven't read. :)

I do a similar thing. I click the "View New Posts" on the main page, and then open each thread with new replies in a new tab, closing the tab when I'm done. At N-Philes where there isn't a "View New Posts" on the main page I do exactly what you do, however. I can't believe I lived without tabbed browsing for so long.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 16th December 2003

I know, it's the best thing to happen to web browsers since ... uh, the mouse scroll wheel?

Before I'd have had like fifteen windows open when I did this (and at least three to five open all the time) and it'd have clogged my system resources and cluttered the taskbar severely... as soon as I got NS7 I knew there was no going back. :)

Happy Birthday, Master of Countdowns and all things unholy.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Laser Link - 16th December 2003

Yeah, I have also come to love tabbed browsers. But even better are mouse gestures. Now I don't even have to move the mouse all the way up to the buttons at the top of the screen.

Hey, that gives me an idea for a new poll in Ramble City!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Laser Link - 16th December 2003

Oh, and "Happy Birthday GR!!!" You the man now dawg!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - The Former DMiller - 16th December 2003

I'm not a fan of mouse gestures. Most of the mouse gesture stuff I can do on the keyboard which I'm more comfortable with. A lot of people like mouse gestures, though, so to each his own.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Great Rumbler - 16th December 2003

Wooo!! My Party!!

Here's what I got for my birthday:

RPG Maker 2
Grabbed by the Ghoullies
Command and Conquer Generals: Deluxe Edition [which is the most awesome game ever]
Empire Earth: Gold Edition
Class ring
Some money

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 16th December 2003

Empire Earth is boring. It's like Age of Empires slower... now I love slow strategy games, but that's a RTS, not a TBS... it's too slow, IMO. Best game in that sub-genre is probably Rise of Nations. And C&C is fun but too fast for me, really... and so shallow. Blizz RTSes are much better. (I only have Red Alert 2, BTW... it's fun, but it's no Blizz RTS. And I REALLY stink at online with it... I can't play super-fast that well...)

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - The Former DMiller - 16th December 2003

Wasn't it nice of ABF to put down all of your birthday presents? ;)

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 16th December 2003

I was just about to say that! ABF is the kind of person you don't want to invite to birthday parties.

Birthday boy: Hey man, look what I got! A new bike! I love my parents so much!

Party Pooper (the ABF person): That kind of bike sucks. You are stupid, and your parents suck for getting you that stupid bike.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 16th December 2003

Eh, C&C vs Blizzard games really is just opinion, and whether you like mid paced games or fast... and both serieses are good. RA2 is fun... for many people that fast pace and lesser level of strategy are good things. :) The C&C games are definitely well made, I'm just bad at them because I like games to be slower paced than that. I'm awful at doing or defending against rushes in Blizz games, too... I beat the RA2 campaigns but am extremely bad at it online.

Oh, it's funny to see Generals and Empire Earth together, as I'd say they're on the exact opposite ends of the genre as far as speed and pacing are concerned...

And that wasn't just me about Empire Earth, I recall its reviews in PC Gamer were like 55%.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - alien space marine - 17th December 2003

Warcraft III patch has arrived! This is the biggest patch I have ever seen.
Orc bonus campaigns own!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

I feel sorry for anyone downloading that monster on a dialup... :)

You still don't get it, do you? Rolleyes You're so thick-headed.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - The Former DMiller - 17th December 2003

I wish my computer wasn't going on 5 years old so I could play WC3. :(

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

WC3 is so, so good...

In this patch Blizz put the second and third parts of the Orc Expansion Campaign... it's been a long wait, it's great to see it.

And as for the patch... interesting, they seem to have weakened all four sides quite a lot... LOTS of big changes. It'll take some getting used to for lots of people.

And OB1, I can't help it... the C&C vs Blizz thing has been going on for years and I've got to defend my side. :)

Uh...when did I ever say anything about Blizzard games?

Well, then PC Gamer sucks...as do you.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 17th December 2003

Yes, yes he does.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Great Rumbler - 17th December 2003

*high five*

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 17th December 2003

ABF is an idiot. Empire Earth has an average score of over 80% according to gamerankings.com, and PC Gamer gave the game an 85%. That's quite a big difference from 55%.

*high fives GR*

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Great Rumbler - 17th December 2003

Hahahahaha!! Chuckle Chuckle :D :D

Take that, Subspace!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 17th December 2003

And C&C Generals has an average score of 85%. Suck on that, ABF!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Great Rumbler - 17th December 2003

Generals really is a fun game. Now, it could just be that I take a child-like glee in watching huge explosions rip through my enemies base, but I doubt it. :)

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 17th December 2003

Hahaha, of course not.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Great Rumbler - 17th December 2003

I haven't played much of Empire Earth yet, but now that I've played Generals for a while I'l be able to start on it.

A note on one of my other games: RPG Maker 2...it's confusing and difficult to use, but somehow I'll figure out how to use it and then I'll make RPGs that will rival even the Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests of the world!!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

Generals sounds like an improvement in the C&C series which finally changes it somewhat. I just prefer my strategy games a bit slower and with more strategy.

And I've played Empire Earth and just thought it was boring.

See, if I want slow strategy games, I'd rather play a TBS... those slow-paced RTSes are for some reason more dull than Civilization or Disciples. Age of Empires is fun but the slow pace eventually gets old -- it needs more variety. Likewise with C&C and its relentless fast pace... that's part of why I love Blizz -- it's got a perfect balance of those two forces.

Quote: And C&C Generals has an average score of 85%. Suck on that, ABF!

Huh? I'd certainly agree from what I've heard that it deserves a score at least that high...

Warcraft III just to me deserves, oh, like a 98% or something? :)

I've always liked game maker programs... I remember having a lot of fun with Klik & Play. :)

Quote:I've always liked game maker programs... I remember having a lot of fun with Klik & Play.

RPG Maker 2 is WAY beyond that, heck I actually had a fairly good project going on the first RPG Maker and I still don't have a clue how to work the second one!!

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

I'd hope so, given how old KNP is... :)

That team's latest project is a 3d games making progam, but they also have a much more refined and powerful version of KNP.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - OB1 - 17th December 2003

Notice how ABF didn't reply to him being wrong about PC Gamer's score.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Weltall - 17th December 2003

What's RPGMaker 2?

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

Fine, fine, I was wrong, so I forgot what they reviewed that game to be when I last read that review like two years ago...

EE is a very ambitious grand strategy game in the style of Age of Empires, but slower in pace and with even more complexity. ... but I like complex strategy games ... sure, but this one just seemed boring. And it has a bad 3d engine, a not so good camera, and a extreme case of 'rock paper sissors' -- each unit is great against one type and nealry useless against another... most games do that, sure, but not to the extent that it's in EE...

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - Great Rumbler - 17th December 2003

The sequel to RPG Maker 1.

...

...

It's a game [program might be a better term] on the PS2 that lets you create your own RPGs in 3D. It's actually a pretty powerful tool, if you can figure out how to use it.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

KNP might have been simple, but that was part of its charm... so easy to use that anyone could actually go in and make something. :)

I'm still sad that the HDD that had all of my KNP saves got messed up and erased (or might be messed up and stored in the closet at home, not sure...). I really wish I hadn't lost them. Sure, they weren't the best, but they were fun... especially since I made them...

Ahh yeah.

Personally, if I had to use a PS2 to make an RPG I'd kill myself. It's hard enough on the PC, even with all the editing tools.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 17th December 2003

Yes, strategy games, simulations, and development stuff really are better on PC... oh, you can make them work to a decent degree on consoles, but on PC you just get better control.

Unless it supports the PS2 mouse and keyboard? :)

Well even then, I contrast it to RPGMaker 2003 for the PC, a program I absolutely adore. Partly due to it's popularity, there is an absolute wealth of material for this program online, and since it is on PC, graphical editing is much easier. I'm still working on mine from time to time (and considering how little I've actually accomplished in almost four years, I'll probably never finish), but my game is pretty text-heavy, and the thought of having to write text with a controller makes me want to cry.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 18th December 2003

And where do you find it and that stuff?

Finding the actual program is difficult, as it has never been officially released in America. You'd have to find one of the translated versions, and it seems like no site keeps the download up very long. No site I had bookmarked still had it.

Assuming you have luck finding the program, places like http://www.gamingw.net and http://www.gaminggroundzero.com are very good places to start for graphic materials.

Happy B-Day Great Rumbler! - A Black Falcon - 18th December 2003

Found a copy from a Thai website... installer wasn't in English, but I got it installed. The program's English, but not the help file... oh well...
