Sounding good...

Viewtiful? - MgL - 14th December 2003

I hope it is not a Joe sequel. I rented Joe last week and I enjoyed it a bit but I also found it real boring. I am also starting to get sick of cel shaded games...

I wouldn't blame the art style for your lack of enjoyment of the game, however I gotta agree that everyone and their dog lately is using cel shading. It's getting old fast.

That's like saying that dynamic lighting has gotten old fast. It's just a texturing and lighting technique. Some people are going to use it really well (Wind Waker, VJ), and some people are going to use it poorly (everthing else) just because it's a cool new technique.

Viewtiful Joe is one of the best games of the year... old style but in a new way, 'classic' yet different, and so much fun... great game. A sequel would be very cool.

And I don't have a problem with cel shading when it's done well like in Zelda or Viewtiful Joe... it's a nice look. Like trying to make the 3d look more 2d, while still being 3d...

There are some that either use it badly or use it as the only feature in an otherwise bad game, but VJ and Zelda show what it can do (well, except for that stupid water in Wind Waker...).
