Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 21st May 2003

Much worse level design, lack of charm, too small characters and platforms (Mario Land 1), and an overall lack of fun compared to the other games.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 21st May 2003

I thought level design was fine, Mario Land 1 may not be graphically all that nice but the gameplay's just as good (more important!), and IMO it just wasn't much less fun...

Were either of them (or the very similar Wario Land 1) as good as any of the NES or SNES games? No, I'd say probably not. But they are solid games...

Though I would say that Wario Land 1 is better than either of the previous SML games, for sure, the two SML games ARE good games. Sure SML doesn't match SMB and SML2 SMB3 or SMW... but given the limitations of the GB I'd say its quite successful.

Now if only those games had been as long as the NES/SNES games they'd be better... their shortness does really hurt. Wario Land was quite short too (over 40 levels but it sure didn't take long to get through...), but I spent a lot of time on that one trying to get all the treasures and max out the score at the end... added a lot of life to the game. And that last ending was worth it! :)

Look. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is probably my favorite GB platformer. After that, though, would come Wario Land and Kirby's Dream Land 2...

The other best GB games, IMO, would be the three Zelda games, Bionic Commando: Elite Forces (I loved that game! I think I played it through 3 or 4 times... one after another...), Final Fantasy Adventure, and a few others... probably including Micro Machines.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 21st May 2003

Look, stop trying to defend the Gameboy. Don't say "oh it's great considering the graphics capabilities of the system". Graphics have very little to do with the Gameboy's small amount of great games. Link's Awaikening is better than the NES Zeldas even though the system is inferior to the NES. It's just that very few developers didn't try hard enough to make great games for the GB.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 21st May 2003

Fine.

Kirby 2 and Wario Land match, and beat, pretty much anything on the NES.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

Erm

You're out of your mind. You compare those two games with the likes of Mario Bros. 3??

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Yes. Not quite as good, but in the same league.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

Chuckle

... you're not serious, are you? Come on now. Hahaha... Wario Land and Kirby in the same league as Mario 3?

:stupid:

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Yup. I do consider those games in the same level of quality as SMB3. Lower down on it... but on the same level. Oh, and both of those games are better than either of the first two SML games.

The other four NES/SNES SM games are also on that level... and probably the first two GB ones, though they'd be on the low end of it.

Kirby's Adventure on NES certainly is as well...

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

Gadzooks! I can't believe I'm hearing this. This is almost as bad as Darunia saying that Quest 64 is better than Metroid Prime.

... well okay it's not nearly that bad, but it's up there.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Why is it so odd to say that good Nintendo platformers and other good Nintendo platformers should be in the same category?

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Great Rumbler - 22nd May 2003

This is another one of those debates that will never end becuase of opinionation and our extreme stuborness, however in this debate we are actually almost agreeing, but not quite.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

I don't understand why saying that great games are great is so contentious...

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

Wario Land is a pretty good game, but putting it in the same league as Mario 3 is almost blasphemous.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Only in your warped Gameboy-hate world.

And anyway, Kirby 2 is better than Wario Land.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

Your craziness knows no bounds.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

How so? After Zelda, Kirby 2 is my favorite Gameboy game... and if you add the GBC, only Mario DX and OoA/S also passes it.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

I'm talking about you saying that Wario Land and Kirby 2 are as good as Mario 3. But whatever! If Darunia can think that Quest 64 is better than Metroid Prime, you can think that those two games are better than Mario 3.

:shake:

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Read what I said again! I didn't say they were AS good. I said they were GOOD. And good enough to be close to Mario 3... not its equal, for certain, but relatively close.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

Oh, and OB1, stop logging off MSN! If you'd only stay online for more than 5 minuites I'd notice you are online when I checked the computer next... twice today you've left after like 5 minuites after I forgot several times to turn up the speaker volume while I was watching TV...

And to clarify, while those games may not be as good as Mario 3, they are close enough that it should be far from absurd to say that they both belong in the same class of games.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

No they're not. But I'll allow you your delusions. :p

And I couldn't stay on msn for very long.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

I noticed. Three times on, three times off within a few minuites...

As for this 'debate', as I said it just comes down to how you hate the gameboy.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 22nd May 2003

Holy flying crap, what the hell is wrong with you??! How many times do I have to repeat "It's alright but the Gameboy's software library paled in comparison to every other Nintendo system's (not including the VB, of course) library"?? Do I have to hit you over the head with a hammer a few times before you get it, or do I have to bring out the sign language again??

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 22nd May 2003

No, I just disagree with that statement.

The original GB, IMO, had a lineup equal to at worst and probably better than the GBC's lineup. Other than that it admittedly is the "worst", but that's like saying that Star Wars is (IMO) the "worst" classic trilogy movie... it doesn't mean much.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 23rd May 2003

Fine you have one opinion, I have another. Why can't you just accept that?

:ass:

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

You aren't just saying one game is bad... you are saying a whole platform is! That is just absurd!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 23rd May 2003

*looks down, shakes his head*

Ok ABF. Listen up. This is going to be the very last time that I'm going to say this, so write it on a sticky note or something and put it on your monitor or your forehead. Pay close attention now:

There are a bunch of good games available for the Gameboy, but overall there aren't nearly as many good titles as there are for the NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy Advance, and Gamecube!!!

If you make me repeat this one more time I'm going to drive over to your house and hit you over the head with a frying pan.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

I'm not arguing about that! I agree!

I'm arguing about other things: Game Boy Color, mainly. That, and how your "dont like as much" comes out as a fairly strong "its so much worse that it barely deserves to be a game in the series" about the Mario Land games... because to me that IS what saying how they are WAY worse than all the other Mario platformers sure comes out to me... and I disagree.

Oh, I'd also say that the N64 is, so far, still better than the Cube. Not that the Cube isn't great... it is. But it just doesn't match the N64, especially in multiplay...

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 23rd May 2003

That's just a problem with your extremely poor comprehension skills. You hear "not as good" and somehow turn it into "sucks ass!".

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 23rd May 2003

Maybe because you say the latter, and not the former, as often as not?

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 24th May 2003

I never once said that it sucked ass or anything like that. I always say compared to, which somehow manages to slip by you each and every friggin' time.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 24th May 2003

And MY point is that "compared to". its close... not as good, but nowhere near the terms you use.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 24th May 2003

Holy Bajeezus... you're even worse than Darunia and ASM put together right now.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 24th May 2003

But I thought you like arguing over minor issues!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 24th May 2003

It's like I'm talking to a Darnunia-ASM clone.

No offense, fellas. :D

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 25th May 2003

You DO know you're at least as bad, right?

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Great Rumbler - 25th May 2003

Off topic:

New episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force is coming on tonight!!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 25th May 2003

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Smoke - 2nd June 2003

Holy flying fuck. How did a joke thread of mine get over 130 replies? Oh right, OB1 and ABF..... :p

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Great Rumbler - 2nd June 2003

Just about every thread that both OB1 and ABF both post in usually turns into a heated debate. But we still love you guys anyway! :)

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 2nd June 2003

Did you watch Adult Swim last night? Those were some hilarious eps of Harvey Birdman, ATHF, Sealab, and of course Space Ghost (old ep, but a great one).

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Great Rumbler - 2nd June 2003

I watched Harvey Birdman and ATHF. Last nights episode of ATHF was a really funny one, much better than the one from last week.

Birdman: And I'm not really married?

Everyone: Uhh...*cough*

:D

And he's wearing a shirt with what appears to be ants running from a charred catfish.

This shirt is too busy! By the time you read you're already dead!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 2nd June 2003

Hahaha... ahh... I love Adult Swim. Can't wait for the DVD!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Great Rumbler - 2nd June 2003

I think they are supposed to come out on DVD this Fall.

I'm going to try to get all of them or if they just have something like the Adult Swim Collection I'll get that.

It's hard to believe that Cartoon Network, the station that shows more anime than most other stations combined [and really good ones] and makes some of the greatest American cartoon series, started out showing series borrowed from other companies and old Bugs Bunny cartoons. They've definitely made progress.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 2nd June 2003

Yes indeed. I'd love to see an Adult Swim-type channel from them. All mature anime and cartoons all day long.

Also, they mentioned last week that Space Ghost was going to be on the DVD (the long versions), so hopefully it won't just be a cheap little mixed collection. I want all of the episodes in order, damnit!

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Great Rumbler - 2nd June 2003

Yeah, I hope they put the entire series on DVD's, like Futurama, and I hope they have commentaries.

What's with those "Best of" collections anyway? Who says they're the best? I certaintly didn't.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 2nd June 2003

Yeah I hate those.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - A Black Falcon - 3rd June 2003

But someone in a back room somewhere decided they were Greatest Episodes! How could you doubt them?

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - Darunia - 3rd June 2003

Yea I'm getting Futurama on DVD for a grad present, and I'd like to get Family Guy. Space Ghost I've never seen.

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - EdenMaster - 3rd June 2003

Never seen Space Ghost? Good lord, man, how do you LIVE??

Nintendo Unveils Plans To Gain Industry Leadership - OB1 - 3rd June 2003

Alone and afraid, I imagine.
