The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 26th October 2004

That depends on if the Revolution is going to be a "fourth pillar" or something, I suppose.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - big guy - 27th October 2004

the revolution is totally not some lame ass "fourth pillar" man shoot. and i read that it might even be more powerful than the XBOX2. which is sexilicious.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 27th October 2004

Nintendo says that it's not going to be a true successor to the GC just like the DS isn't a true successor to the GBA, and they also said that they will continue making new GC games along side it, just like they are with the GBA.

Of course we all know that that's bullshit, but their company stance on it might change the way they handle marketing and everything. Since the DS is not the new Gameboy according to Nintendo, their marketing is going to target the 15+ crowd, like the PS2 and XB do.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 27th October 2004

It's not the new GB even though Nintendo is now devoting most of its portable resources to the DS? Uhh... well, as long as they actually support the GBA with something, they can keep saying it...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 27th October 2004

It's a "third pillar", remember?

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 27th October 2004

And my point was that they can keep up the farce until they drop GBA support.

Link to a video capture of the commercial...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 27th October 2004

Yeah I know what your point was, I was just restating Nintendo's crazy stance. What they are actually saying is "if the DS fails, it's a third pillar. If it succeeds it's the new Gameboy".

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 27th October 2004

Hedging their bets, why not... :)

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 27th October 2004

It's cowardly.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 27th October 2004

Well, I think it's Bojacksome.

...

...

The commercial.

...

...

...

Wait...you were talking about the "third pillar" thing? Oh, I thought you were talking about the commercial. I was kind of stumped how a commercial could be cowardly...

...

...

...

Yeah...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 29th October 2004

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - big guy - 31st October 2004

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 31st October 2004

For reezy.

...

...

...

I mean, yes, it is cool.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 1st November 2004

I had a dream two nights ago where I played a DS at blockbuster (which is funny since I consider them to be the most evil store in the world), but the screens were really narrow and I could barely control Yoshi in Mario 64 DS.

Damn dreams... new hardware is always fucked up in my dreams.

It was probably blockbuster's fault.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 1st November 2004

All my local Blockbusters are stupid, they always say stuff like "We can't order that" or "We're not getting any DS's in", which is why I have to make a special 120 mile round trip to McKinney where they have a Blockbuster/Gamerush to get the DS and a game. Stupid Blockbuster...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 2nd November 2004

Or you could order online...

I hear that internet thing is pretty neat.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 2nd November 2004

I've already got $200+ in Blockbuster credit, though.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 2nd November 2004

Ok...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 2nd November 2004

And now I've got a preorder of a DS paid for in full at Blockbuster courtesy of my brother. You go, guy!

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 2nd November 2004

I don't know where I'm gonna get a DS...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 2nd November 2004

You better hurry up and find out!

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 2nd November 2004

Well I won't have money to order one online until next friday... and I can't pre-order it over here.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 5th November 2004

Quote:What we heard: As is often the case with game PR, publishers will send out press releases re-announcing games to remind the world of their existence. Case in point: Last night, Ubisoft issued a risqué e-mail titled "Ubisoft brings menage-a-trois to Nintendo DS launch party" to jog memories that Rayman DS, Sprung, and Asphalt Urban GT will be among the first games released for Nintendo's handheld. However, one line in the announcement stood out: "Asphalt Urban GT is one of only five launch-day titles." Casual readers of the e-mail not fond of "Nintendrones" quickly got on forums, and began to spread word that the DS would launch with only five games--half the 10 to 12 titles Nintendo announced just last month at its official DS conference in Seattle. While it is true only six titles will arrive on store shelves simultaneously with the DS--Asphalt GT, Spider-Man 2, Madden NFL 2005, Feel The Magic: XY/XX, Urbz: Sims in the City DS, and Super Mario 64 DS--they won't be lonely for long. Had those forum-posters read the entire Ubisoft e-mail, they would've seen that Rayman DS and Sprung will also arrive in the official DS "launch-window"--i.e. by the end of 2004. And, according to the DS product page on EB games, they'll be joined by four others--Ping Pals, Ridge Racer, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 DS, and Zoo Keeper DS--before Christmas.

Ie, six launch games, six more within the month or so, and four more before Christmas (hopefully). I know it was a different thread, but I found this one, so this explains the Rayman DS thing. :)

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 6th November 2004

Well I only wanted Mario and XX/XY anyhow...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 6th November 2004

Well then, you are okay. But it is a bit deceptive to say "twelve" when only six come out on launch day...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - EdenMaster - 6th November 2004

This thread probably says this somewhere, but is there going to be a game packed in with the DS, or or we going to have to shell out more to play it? I would imagine not, Nintendo hasn't been doing that with new systems since the SNES...

I'll probably be going to my usual GameStop to preorder the DS. I'll pay half from the paycheck I just got, and finish it off since I'll get paid again mere days before it launches. What convienient timing, eh?

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 6th November 2004

It's packed with the demo of Metroid Prime Hunters...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Dark Jaguar - 6th November 2004

Nintendo hasn't done it since the SNES, but actually in Japan Nintendo NEVER packed in a game with ANY of the systems. That was a US marketting thing that turned out to cost too much or something...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 6th November 2004

It obviously didn't fail very much for a long time given how popular it was until CD systems came out.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 7th November 2004

A Black Falcon Wrote:Well then, you are okay. But it is a bit deceptive to say "twelve" when only six come out on launch day...

Haha, straight-faced lying sure is just "a bit deceptive". Lol

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 7th November 2004

Its not lying, they all come out in the "release window"! ... yeah ...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 7th November 2004

*falls out the release window* That hurt!!

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 7th November 2004

Let's hope none of the games follow you!

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - Great Rumbler - 7th November 2004

Doesn't matter really. The only games I wanted were Feel the Magic and Mario 64.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

Hey me too! We're like games-wanting-to-buyers-brothers!!!

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 8th November 2004

Yes, those two would be the two games I'd want most too...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

Pfft, trying to be in our club...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 8th November 2004

The rest of the launch lineup just doesn't sound as interesting... maybe Ridge Racer, but the stylus control option doesn't sound very good.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

Isn't there another control scheme?

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 8th November 2004

Yeah, you can also use the d-pad and buttons.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

Well what's wrong with that?

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 8th November 2004

Nothing... only certain game types will really benifit from the touchscreen really I guess. But for the rest of the games the DS just becomes a slightly different console without an analog stick. Unavoidable, but too bad in a way...

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

Those are the lazy developers.

And Nintendo, apparently. *looks at Mario 64's lame touch screen feature*

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 8th November 2004

The DS is very different in a lot of ways, but over time the lack of an analog stick will probably stand out as the biggest flaw in the system... as these early games prove not every game can benifit hugely from touchscreens.

Still, the DS looks like a great system that definitely has some unique games...

As for Mario 64 DS, that was probably done just to have a launch Mario game. The more innovative DS stuff from Nintendo is mostly coming later.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

Intelligent Systems is already doing innovative stuff with Wario Ware, but the rest of Nintendo is not. At least with their early games. Mario Kart seems to just use the second screen as a lame map.

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - A Black Falcon - 8th November 2004

How about the Kirby drawing game?

The Official "Countdown to DS Release" Thread! - OB1 - 8th November 2004

That's not an early game.
