Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 27th August 2003

Yeah, Rollcage doesn't match up to Wipeout, but its pretty hard to match Wipeout... that series is near-perfection in the genre... but it is a great series and yes, they should make a third one. I'd look forward to seeing where it will go... Rollcage 2 is a awesome racing game with almost too many gameplay modes and extras to unlock, so I don't know what they could really add to the thing... :)

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - big guy - 27th August 2003

i'm with ABF on this one...i haven't spent a whole lot of time with F-Zero X, so i can't compare the other games listed to it...but i can say that i don't know how OB1 can say that Wipeout XL/64 and Rush 2049 are bad games...they're rather good IMO...as is XG3, no, it's not XG2, bu it's the only XG game i put much time in, and i think it relates to this debate because it is a futuristic racer.

i also don't see anywhere where ABF said that any of those games were better than F-Zero X (aside from where he listed a few areas where those games bested F-Zero in his opinion). He's just saying that they are also good games in the genre...and OB1 keeps replying by saying that they're crap...which is utterly false. maybe you didn't enjoy them, OB1, but to say that they're bad games and that no one should enjoy them is crazy. and seeing as how i enjoyed them, ABF enjoyed them, and private hudson seems to have enjoyed playing at least the wipeout series, along with all the reviewers who gave these games high marks, it seems that you're negative opinion of the games is quite in the minority and as such should not be pressed so forcefully as fact.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 27th August 2003

I never said they were bad games, people! I said that compared to F-Zero they're not that great. Like Gex 2 by itself is an alright game, but it pales in comparison to Mario 64.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 27th August 2003

OB1, saying that they are Quest to Metroid Prime or Gex 2 to Mario 64 IS SAYING THAT THEY ARE BAD. I see no possible way you can deny that with a straight face. You keep saying how terrible they are, how they stink, how F-Zero X is lightyears ahead, etc, etc, etc... then you say they aren't bad? Huh?

Now some games in the genre would be Gex 2 compared to Mario 64... like, say, Star Wars Episode I Racer. But Rollcage, Wipeout, XG2-PC, etc? You are insane!

That's more like Rayman 2 vs Mario 64... or Banjo-Kazooie or something, I don't know. Ie very close.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 27th August 2003

No sir, you are insane. As good as Wipeout is (Wipeout XL and Fusion, mainly), it still can't compare to F-Zero.

I NEVER SAID THAT THE GAMES ARE BAD, STUPID!! I said that in comparison they aren't too hot. Big difference.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 27th August 2003

YOU SAID THAT IT IS GEX 2 VERSUS MARIO 64

Then, you said how they stink and are bad and are terrible and awful. Then a small comment sometimes about 'in comparison to' but not always, for sure...

Quote:Come on now, ABF. Just admit that you like lots of crappy games and be over with it.

Rolleyes

If that's not "they are bad" nothing is.

Oh yeah, big guy... I don't mention XG3 because while its a perfectly good futuristic racer, its just not in the same class as F-Zero X, Wipeout XL/64, Rollcage 2, or XG2... its in the next level down, sure, but not quite on the top level. Its just too derivitive and lacks its own unique identity...

I know that I complained at Gamespot's F-Zero X review for saying that F-Zero X doesn't have a "soul" and that that's a big part of the problem with the game... because with F-Zero that's not true. But it is with XG3. Its a fun game, I liked it... but its just too derivitive, without really making a stand as a truly unique game. Its just F-Wipeout...

Oh yeah, and too easy. XG2 was really, really hard and can last you a REALLY long time (50-race campaign. Plus three difficulty levels.), while XG2 has a total of 27 races overall -- and no difficulties to make it harder. And you can save after every race to make it significtantly easier on top of that.

One final comment. I've played Wipeout XL. 64 is without question better.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 27th August 2003

Gex 2 isn't a bad game! Just compared to Mario 64 it is...

I never called those games terrible or awful or anything, but I did say "crappier" (as in crappier than F-Zero). And when I said that you like crappy games I wasn't really referring to XG. I was talking about games like Cruis'n and Oni.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 27th August 2003

Quote: Just compared to Mario 64 it is...

You DO know you are proving my point with that statement, right?

Oh yeah, and this is a discussion on futuristic racing games, not Oni or Cruis'n... yes, I knew that you were also referring to those games, but given that this is the topic of this discussion I certainly would expect that you meant these games too.

Say all the "in comparison to F-Zero X" you want... it doesn't change a thing. Because in everyone else's eyes they aren't much worse "in comparison to F-Zero X". Its just you, OB1... get over it and ADMIT IT!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 27th August 2003

Admit that you like crappy games? Okay! You win, you like crappy games!

:shakeit:

Really? Most fans of the series consider XL to be the pinnicle of the series. 64 seemed more like Wip3out, which was.. less good.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 27th August 2003

WO 64 is good, but XL definitely better. Wipeout Fusion, however, beats all of them by a long shot.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - Private Hudson - 27th August 2003

I thought I was the only one that liked Fusion the best..

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 27th August 2003

You kidding me? Fusion is much better than the other WO's.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

Oh, XL is quite good, but I like the additions of analog controls and multiplayer... WO64 is a really great 2-player multiplayer game!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

The framerate isn't very good in multiplayer, at least not in 3-4 player mode.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

3 and 4 player isn't that great, but its because they turn off the trackside graphics and reduce it to 4 vehicles (from 16 and full graphics in 2-player mode), not because of framerates...

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

It is because of the framerate. I could care less about the graphics.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

I have never seen a framerate problem in Wipeout 64. Not once.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - Dark Jaguar - 28th August 2003

You CAN care less? That means you care!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

I couldn't care less, Miss Smarty Pants. :P

Gee wiz, ABF didn't notice the framerate problem? Who woulda guessed? Haha Even your favorite site Gamespot noticed the framerate issue:

Quote:The three- to four-player mode, however, only allows for four ships in all, the frame rate bogs, and you can watch the tracks being built a few hundred feet in front of you nearly the entire time.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

As for the framerate... I have only played it in 3 or 4 player a couple of times, and not for long. The lack of graphics and (more importantly) the pathetic 4 vehicles on the track drove me away long before I had spent enough time in it to notice framerate issues... but I've played one and two player modes in WO64 a lot and the framerate there never drops. Its not 60, but its fluid, and that's what matters.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

You barely played 3-4 player mode? Then why on earth did you say this??

Quote:3 and 4 player isn't that great, but its because they turn off the trackside graphics and reduce it to 4 vehicles (from 16 and full graphics in 2-player mode), not because of framerates...

Good grief...

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

I said that, obviously, because from the experience in 3/4 player that I do have I don't remember slow framerates. :)

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

No, you very clearly stated "the problem is with the graphics, not the framerate".

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

Because in that mode the biggest problem was the fact you have just 4 cars, not 16 like 2 player mode... and the second biggest problem is the lack of all the non-track graphics. Those two things drove me away from that mode way faster than lower framerates would have...

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

But you just said that you barely played that mode.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

Because its not that fun!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

So you don't have much experience with it then and shouldn't have stated that the framerate isn't a problem!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 28th August 2003

Lets just agree that the 3 and 4 player mode is flawed in numerous ways and leave it as that.

And that the 2-player mode is some of the best 2-player racing on the n64. :)

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 28th August 2003

Okay.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 29th August 2003

We... agreed... in an arguement...

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 29th August 2003

That happens more often than you think.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 29th August 2003

True, but no one else here believes it...

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 29th August 2003

That's because they're all stupid.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - Great Rumbler - 29th August 2003

No, YOU'RE all stew...pot...handle...what?

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 29th August 2003

Fansd.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - Great Rumbler - 29th August 2003

Blairmonshk?

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 29th August 2003

I have the sudden urge to play Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, and ICO all at once. This is gonna be a challenge!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - Great Rumbler - 29th August 2003

That's strange, I suddenly had the urge to play KOTOR, Timesplitters 2 [GC], and Breath of Fire 4 all at once. A challenge to be sure.

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - OB1 - 29th August 2003

We found a new way to enjoy games!

Countdown to the release F-Zero GX - A Black Falcon - 29th August 2003

And I'm trying to play Metroid Fusion, F-Zero GX, and Skies of Arcadia at the same time... I've pretty much coped by spending the majority of the time for now with Skies.
