ONSP still exsists? ![]() Nintendo's Cursed - Weltall - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by Smoke-X Yep. I never took it down, I just removed the main page. I'm so damn sneaky. Nintendo's Cursed - Darunia - 31st March 2003 Sure. But Retro's first game was even better than anything Rare produced. Metroid is a cool game, and it's well made, but there is NO conceivable way--NONE--that is anywhere as good as Perfect Dark, or even GoldenEye. Those were awesome, replayable games with ground-breaking multiplayers, contemporary great graphics, and just a solid, fun playability...Metroid in my eyes cannot compete, nor can Retro. Rare was synonymous with Nintendo, with excellence...Retro will need to pull off some pretty nice crap to earn that stance. Nintendo's Cursed - alien space marine - 31st March 2003 your the one that took down the main page! I thought Crosswinds was just being gay , I had know idea you put it off line. Especially after me and Boris worked so hard on it just before you put it down. ![]() The CS(onsp) Forum still exist (cough!) Barely! The last post was last month in that forum , By our good freind MFBC. I am not Anti Nintendo anymore , But selling Rare is up their with the Holocuast. Even If alot of Rare good folks left , The Rare name was still a Value in itself. Why not just be creative and merge Rare with Retro? But no Nintendo had to fuck themsleves in the head pretty hard. Nintendo's Cursed - Darunia - 31st March 2003 RIP: Rare's Nintendo love: 1996-2002 Nintendo's Cursed - Geno - 31st March 2003 The ONSP... we made idiots of ourselves there, yet for some reason, it has so much sentimental value. Four years later, we're still making idiots of ourselves, debating about video games. :p Nintendo's Cursed - Darunia - 31st March 2003 Idiots? Hell no; we made NAMES for ourselves! ONSP was the playground of the gods! ASM is from there...? Who were you there, I didn't even know that. Nintendo's Cursed - Weltall - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by alien space marine I didn't take down CS, that just happened without my input. I'm talking about the ONSP, the original. Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by Darunia Retro has already pulled off some "nice crap". Metroid Prime is better than anything Rare ever made, even though it lacks a multiplayer mode. And PD's graphics were not good for its time. GE's were, however. Both fantastic games, but neither of them reached the level of excellence that Metroid Prime did, IMO. Quote:....So, I take it you seem to think that they couldn't have both companies at once? Hell if I know. But Nintendo must have made good use of that $150 million (or something). Quote:Metroid Prime was and absolutely incredible game, sure... but Rare did have a stellar game lineup -- Blast Corps, B-K, DK64, B-T, Goldeneye, PD, JFG, DKR... as well as KI Gold and the not as good Mickey's Speedway USA... But that's one great lineup of games. And that can't be replaced with just one team, which is what Retro is... Their N64 lineup was incredible. But I do not think that all of that money went to Retro, considering that Retro was formed way before the Rare sale. We still have Free Radical Design and Zoonami though! Too bad Nintendo won't buy out one of those companies... Nintendo's Cursed - Darunia - 31st March 2003 PD was so pushing the graphics and standards that it required the memory add-on thingy; and when you tapped into it's legendary multiplayer, it FROZE sometimes---THATS how great it was! [B]Free Radical Design and Zoonami [B/] Who are they, and what have they made? Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 Compared to PC games at the time, PD was horrendous-looking. But I certainly liked it more than Half-Life. Free Radical Design are the guys that made the two Time Splitters games, and they are formed by ex-Rare employees. Zoonami is also a new studio formed by ex-Rare members, with Martin Hollis as the head of the company. He led the development of both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Zoonami is currently working on a Gamecube title. Nintendo's Cursed - Darunia - 31st March 2003 Well, PD can hardly be compared to period PC graphics; but then, N64 was on it's way out, and no current-gen game could hold up to period PC games in graphics ('cept maybe for Dreamcast). I think Zoonami would be worth investing in...any idea about what that game might be! PLEASE LET IT BE A FPS!!! Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 There won't be any PC games that look better than the best of the console bunch until Doom 3 comes out later this year. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 I don't know about that... the PC has games that look better than anything on consoles... just look at any decent console port of a recent game and the PC version is better looking and sharper. I mean, how can you say that PC looks worse than current console games? It just isn't true! Now, a year ago maybe... but not now... Nintendo's Cursed - Great Rumbler - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by Weltall I'll find that site, it may take some digging, but I'll find it!! Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 I'd love to see it... Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by A Black Falcon I have a powerful PC with a very good graphics card, and the best-looking game that I've played on my system is Unreal 2. Unreal 2 doesn't even have multi-layered texturing or bump-mapping. It looks marginally better than Unreal Championship, and that's not the best-looking X-Box game on the market. Unreal 2 also suffers from a jumpy framerate, even with the most powerful PC setups. Deus Ex 2 and Doom 3 will be the best-looking PC games next year, and DX 2 is coming out on the X-Box (looking as good as its PC counterpart) around the same time. So no, PCs are most certainly not ahead of consoles in terms of graphics just yet. Maybe late next year. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 How about Splinter Cell for PC or GTA3 for PC or the upcoming GTA:VC for PC? All of those look better on PC... Oh, and the higher resolutions allowed by the PC more than make up for some small graphical differences... higher resolutions make games look significantly better and consoles just can't do that... Nintendo's Cursed - Great Rumbler - 31st March 2003 I still haven't the elusive "ONSP", but I did run across this: Quote:History of the N64-PSX war Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 You can have higher resolutions but on a much smaller screen. And then there's HDTV support. Splinter Cell does not look much better on the PC than it does on the X-Box. The differences are very small. And GTA 3 and Vice City? Those games aren't even the best-looking on the PS2, so of course they look better on the PC. Consoles win in the sound category as well. Very few PC games support true 5.1 sound. Nintendo's Cursed - alien space marine - 31st March 2003 I believe they made a movie about our exploits in the war. Lets not forget the official nintendo parties website, "gaystation"!:D Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 Quote:Splinter Cell does not look much better on the PC than it does on the X-Box. To me that looks like you're agreeing with me there... it looks better... Oh yeah, and almost no one has full surround sound systems so that's not a very important point, but most PC games support some kind of that... I don't know what because all I have is 2 speakers (better than the TV we have at home, which is mono...), or headphones. And I'll take resolution over big screens... it just looks so much nicer... Nintendo's Cursed - EdenMaster - 31st March 2003 Great Rumbler, I typed every word of that myself :). That's my History of the N64-PSX war. No doubt then, you've unearthed our old fortress as well. Well done, but you still have yet to find the big prize. Nintendo's Cursed - Great Rumbler - 31st March 2003 ![]() Ahahahaha!! :D Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by A Black Falcon It only looks a tiny bit better because of the higher resolution. That's still not saying much as SC is not a good example of texturing. No current PC game has textures as good as the ones in Rogue Leader (aside from Doom 3, but that's not out yet). I'd also much rather play SC on my big TV than on my little monitor, and I prefer the X-Box controller for this game. And almost all X-Box games support Dolby 5.1 sound, while all of the big GC games and a few PS2 titles support PLII 5.1 sound. You said that you have a really crummy tv, right? Then of course you'd prefer your monitor over that. But if you had a nice 35 inch Wega (which I don't, but I'm trying to make a point) I'm sure you'd want to play games on that instead of on a monitor. PCs are not ahead of consoles so far in this generation (graphically speaking, of course). They'll likely visually surpass the best console titles sometime in the second half of this year, most likely when (or if) the first wave of Direct x9-only games come out. I can't wait to let my 9700 show what it's capable of. Nintendo's Cursed - EdenMaster - 31st March 2003 Heh, yes, there are plenty of gems on that old relic :D. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 Sure, my 17" monitor is a lot smaller than that ancient (but 27", which is good sized) TV we have at home... and yeah that isn't the best TV to use as an example, but I very much doubt that many people have any other speakers on their TV than the stereo speakers (if its newer... :) ) in the TV itsself... As for graphics, PCs currently are significantly more powerful than consoles. By a decent margin... but no one pushes them to the edge because they need to make them run on low-end P3s... because not many people have those top-end P4's with new $400 video cards... or we would see PC games with graphics a level above the console graphics are like they were by the time the N64 was two years old (when I got my n64 a little after 2 years after it came out, I'd been playing better looking PC games for the better part of a year... even that P1 233 with a 8mb Voodoo2 was better than the N64...)... Maybe by this fall when the NGC is two years old it too will have been decicively bested by the PC. It really does hinge, I'd say, on Doom 3... Remember: The (heavily modified) Quake 3 engine, from 1999, is still one of the best in the business, as its use in upcoming games like Star Trek Elite Force 2 shows... Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 It doesn't cost too much to get a decent 5.1 sound setup for your tv, so it's not that rare. Even my little brother saved up enough money to get a great receiver and speakers set. There's no question that current high-end PCs can play games that would look ten times better than the best console titles, but like you said developers have to make games with all sorts of configurations in mind so that's why the best PC games look about as good as the best console games today. I have the Doom 3 pre-alpha and it looks really good, although it's a lot slower than the final version will be. It's still not lightyears ahead of the best console stuff, but it is better. And the Quake 3 engine is good for indoor areas but utter shit for outdoor areas. Nintendo's Cursed - big guy - 31st March 2003 not the best example of the market overall, but Morrowind on the PC looks plenty better than its Xbox counterpart. i think that current PC games CAN look better than console games...many of them just don't though. Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 Morrowind is a pretty average-looking game no matter what system it's on. My brother has the X-Box version and I have the PC version. I got the PC version because I wanted to make my own levels and to be able to get new patches and mods (there's this one mod I have that's even better than the official expansion pack). Otherwise I would have stuck with the X-Box version because I like sitting on my comfy chair and playing on my nice t.v. The textures in the PC version are much better than the X-Box version's, but I have no idea why that's so since the textures are sub-PS2 quality. It should have looked much better. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 Morrowind is a clear case of 'why would anyone with a qualified PC buy the X-Box version'. Not for the improved graphics, but for the world creation tools, patches, and the two expansion packs that X-Box people don't get... Oh, and I do wish that someone had made a better engine than Q3 years ago... it'd be VERY nice to see even medium-sized outdoor areas and automaps (something the Q3 engine seems to not be able to do) again... there's a reason that my favorite FPS is probably still Jedi Knight... :) Now a game with graphics like JK2 or better, JK2's lightsaber controls, and the level and other game design design of JK1 would be as good as it gets... but that's not what we're getting, unfortunately. As for Doom 3... great engine. I'm looking forward to what games are made in the engine... I won't get the game, though. FPSes don't intrest me much and the ones id makes just aren't the best or most interesting ones out there... Nintendo's Cursed - Dark Jaguar - 31st March 2003 Yeah really. There are some games that are just meant for PC. Why would you give up level creation and the ease of mouse control (some games just talor to mouse control while others are best done with controllers) for a comfortable chair? Can't you just move your computer near that chair or the other way around or something? I myself, should I ever feel the need, would just move my moniter to the floor (as well as keyboard and mouse) and play like that. Easy peasy, like parcheesy! Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 There is no advantage of having keyboard and mouse control over gamepad control in Morrowind since precise aiming is not important in the game. I actually prefer the X-Box controller for Morrowind. And sitting on a chair four feet away from my computer monitor with the mouse and keyboard on my lap is not what I would call comfortable. Nintendo's Cursed - Dark Jaguar - 31st March 2003 Well, do you point to where you want to move and and click to get them to go or directly control the character? The former is always better with a mouse. The latter is always better with a controller. You don't call that comfortable? Okay then... Nintendo's Cursed - N_A - 31st March 2003 Nintendo is sucking in the market because the opposition has a momentum and a chokehold on how they can control Nintendo's image by using their own propaganda. I don't care how many dark Metroid games Nintendo makes or whatever, as long as Nintendo still makes Mario, Zelda, etc.... Sony and MS can pass off Nintendo as some kiddy company and since they control the market, it will work - obviously because everyone is a PS2 megafan, and because everyone is a PS2 player, all the companies concentrate their energy on the PS2, and then more players buy PS2... a self propagating cycle. And in that cycle, it involves people saying "screw you Nintendo," and buying a PS2 or Xbox. I think this has been said many times, why are you even asking why Nintendo is cursed ? Its been a fact and will be a fact until Sony and MS screw up royally to the scale of N64. How long will that be ? Who knows, maybe never... Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 Quote:Originally posted by Dark Jaguar It controls like a FPS, but without the need of precise aiming. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 31st March 2003 Even on PC? Huh... it'd still control better with mouse/keyboard... PC-style RPGs always do even when they are first person ones... Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 31st March 2003 It actually doesn't. The dual analogue controls make it easier to walk around; with the PC it's more jerky. The only advantage of the kb&mouse setup has always been the precise aiming of the mouse. Analogue movement is something that cannot be done with that configuration. Nintendo's Cursed - big guy - 1st April 2003 i never used the level creator in morrowind, but i did get the expansion and download some patches...so i'm glad to have the PC version (i also didn't have to buy an X-Box for it). anyway, that and Warcraft 3 are the only PC games i really play, so i'm not the authority to get involved in this discussion. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 1st April 2003 Yeah you are... I don't have morrowind either... :) Nintendo's Cursed - OB1 - 1st April 2003 Morrowind is pretty cool, although it has more than its fair share of problems. The combat is crap, the graphics engine is atrocious(the draw distance is terrible, and the engine doesn't even use scaling, meaning that it draws everything that it loads in a certain section without reducing the polygons in the areas that you cannot see--with scaling the draw distance would be much, much better), there are only two tracks in the soundtrack, and it takes forever to get enough speed points to run at a good pace. But other than that it's pretty good. Nintendo's Cursed - A Black Falcon - 1st April 2003 I'd like to have Morrowind, but there are a LOT of games I wish I had and not much money to spend on them, and its not too high on the list... for PC RPGs that are already out the ones I'd want most are probably Wizardry 8 and Neverwinter Nights... but I have Baldur's Gate II (Started it... but the sheer length (well over a hundred hours...) of the game makes it tough to actually finish.., and Dungeon Siege (though its half strategy game and other half Diablo) too... I'll probably eventually get Wizardry, anyway. Nintendo's Cursed - Great Rumbler - 1st April 2003 Meh, I simply cannot find the site that Weltall hid away. I guess I'm going to have to give, it's either hidden in such a way as to make it impossible to find without exact URLs or I'm just not using the right keywords. Curse you, Weltall, and your website hiding skills!! Nintendo's Cursed - Darunia - 2nd April 2003 Are you looking for ONSP or Cypherstation? Nintendo's Cursed - Great Rumbler - 2nd April 2003 ONSP. I found Cypherstation, btw. Nintendo's Cursed - EdenMaster - 2nd April 2003 ONSP, quite the relic. Any who find it will certainly find out much about Weltalls true nature :D. Nintendo's Cursed - alien space marine - 3rd April 2003 give them a link to Gaystation Edenmaster. :D Nintendo's Cursed - Private Hudson - 3rd April 2003 Quote:Originally posted by OB1 My guess is that it's because of the XBox's unified memory. The game is apparently, very RAM intensive, and after all the game data is stored, there mustn't have been enough left over for good quality texture. Or it was just a poor port =\ |
