family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 12th July 2005 Fox network television caters to the average America, not those who enjoy good cinema. One can hardly blame them, though; all the rest of network TV is following in suit. TV sucks and its only getting worse. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 12th July 2005 There's always Adult Swim. family guy vs. futerama - dex - 12th July 2005 chris: Dad what are blow holes for? peter:i'll tell you what there not for, and that will explain why i im not allowed at sea world anymore. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 12th July 2005 There's always Adult Swim. Haha---yea, basically. That and pretty much nothing else on primetime. family guy vs. futerama - lazyfatbum - 13th July 2005 Is it just me or does Jessica Alba look exactly like both Olson twins simultaneously (with a tan)? I ask because, well, it seemed appropriate. family guy vs. futerama - Dark Jaguar - 13th July 2005 No it's not just you. But, is it just me or... some hilarious comparison? family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 15th July 2005 Is it just ME, or did it just get more (bad joke stretched to the breaking point----too taunt!--SNAPS and one of its flailing members takes out Lazy's eye) in here? family guy vs. futerama - Dark Jaguar - 15th July 2005 Well you certainly made his brown eye blue with that one! family guy vs. futerama - lazyfatbum - 15th July 2005 I'll be fine when you're gone, I'll just cry all night long. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 17th July 2005 We were at the beach Everybody had--- ---Matching towels And someone went under a dock, And there they saw--a rock! Only it wasn't a rock, IT WAS A ROCK LOBSTER! *guitar strumming* ROCK LOBSTER! !!!!ROCK LOBSTAH!!!! family guy vs. futerama - lazyfatbum - 18th July 2005 It's the night of shabat The plenilune feast Rise from your mortal sleep and let your astral body glide away With the sacred ointment Plunge into the new dream Follow the way of the secret life Silently graze archaic dimensions On water and over wind The god of woods call his sons, Enraptured by his power, Follow the divine melody The magic key. Penetrate the forest's heart and be led to the sabbath Till the flight's end. Vivid flares flashing in darkness are reflected In the owl's fixed eyes. Walk along the hidden paths Nine kinds of wood nourish fire and fire marks your destination It reveals the glade And the walnut you knew through the deer's eyes Maleventum A long black robe appears among the trees His gaze lighted upon the moon His barbarian hymn hails to the moon Nine words of nine letters thunder in silence And the night's star reveals its secret nature. (hi)s shout opens the black diamond doors the circle holds on tight to him the old chant sing out.. Palas Aron Ozimonas! Baske Bano Tudan Donas! Geheamel Cla Orlay! Berec he pantaras tay! ...come on you know the words! Just the girls this time! family guy vs. futerama - me - 18th July 2005 I've always liked Futurama better than Family Guy, but they're both good. Reading that list of old Fox flops made me think about a recent terrible show they ran (or maybe is still running, dunno), Arrested Development. What I wanna know, is why do I hear about that unfunny show getting all these fancy awards? What is so funny about it, either I'm missing something big and just don't get AD's alleged high comedy or the show really is crummy. It's like when my english teacher made our class go see A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare's "comedy" play. In the middle of the play she would just start cracking up really loud. You're killing me Ms. Whitmore. I think what these crazy critics really like is understanding some allegedly deep show that the masses don't get. So they convince themselves it's funny and give it awards. Either that or I'm just dumb, eh? family guy vs. futerama - lazyfatbum - 18th July 2005 LMAO ...? family guy vs. futerama - Dark Jaguar - 19th July 2005 Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy, but the jokes are about as clever as a sitcom. I mean, in summery it's got it all. Men dressed up as women for a play (I mean, they did that, but they make a point of making fun of that here), a convoluted plot where a man cursed with the head of a donkey meets a fairy queen cursed to fall in love with whoever she next sees, and some other stuff. So, as far as the quality of the jokes... not so much. It is well written though, of that you can't deny. Arrested Development... I was told repeatedly that it was comedy gold, but in order to really GET it I had to watch a season from the start, as they kept referencing old jokes all the time. Um, well after watching a solid sleight of episodes, I think I can safely say that constant self-reference isn't a comedy winner. family guy vs. futerama - A Black Falcon - 19th July 2005 Quote:Reading that list of old Fox flops made me think about a recent terrible show they ran (or maybe is still running, dunno), Arrested Development. Ooh, with comments like that, you're pretty lucky OB1 quit the forum... :) Quote:Arrested Development... Um, well after watching a solid sleight of episodes, I think I can safely say that constant self-reference isn't a comedy winner. Monkey Island 4 had a huge number of jokes that referenced the first three games, and it wasn't exactly the best in that series either... :) Of course, 3 was brilliant and certainly had some, so it can work. But those were almost as funny anyway if you hadn't played the first two games... family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 19th July 2005 Quote:Reading that list of old Fox flops made me think about a recent terrible show they ran (or maybe is still running, dunno), Arrested Development. I'm going to...rip off your skin...and wear it...like a jacket... *turns off the part of the brain that controls instincts* Okay, whew, things were getting just a tad bit weird in brain for a minute there. It seems like thought that I read two posts in a row, and correct me if I'm wrong here, but, haha, well it seems that both of posts, and this is the crazy part, said negative [!!!1!1!111] things about Arrested Development! Hahahaha! Oh wait...that actually happened! Why don't you take your AD-hating selves back to Unfunny Town were you live, ya dang hippies!! family guy vs. futerama - Dark Jaguar - 19th July 2005 Okay, but this time with FEELING! ... But seriously, what's there to get? From what I can tell, there's some long story where someone lost their hand and then in the end, that claw replacement ended up in in someone's arse. Oh dear! He keeps forgetting he doesn't have his hand any more! Is the funny! And, here's a guy who is slowly being shoved out of the picture by a goat! Lookit his expressions, they are highly amusing! And, issa goat! Goat! GOAT = FUNNY! ... It just feels like they are REACHING for something... family guy vs. futerama - lazyfatbum - 19th July 2005 I do believe it's at attempt at a visual racial slur. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 19th July 2005 He's afraid of SHEEP! That's comedy gold! Quote:It just feels like they are REACHING for something... Whatever is beyond insanely funny? 'Cuz they've already been there. By the way, I got Titus season 1&2 on DVD this past weekand for the measely price of $30. Well, well worth that small amount. Titus is easily one of the greatest sitcoms in YEARS, if not EVER. If you like Arrested Development you really need to see this show right away. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 20th July 2005 Getting back on the old, dusty track of this conversation, You are not a viable success as a human being until you have experienced this. family guy vs. futerama - Dark Jaguar - 20th July 2005 Yeah, I saw a few episodes of that.... Cars are heavy indeed... too bad you aren't funny. The sitcom is going extinct. The greatest is still Seinfeld and I fear nothing will surpass it before reality shows kill it completely by being able to gather the resources sitcoms once thrived on (stupid people) more effectively. However, that's all well and good. I suppose that soon there shall be a show that has evolved to the point where it can gather those resources even more effectively. These shows will be infomertial/reality show hybrids selling scientology, homeopathy, and psychic readings to the masses on a daily basis with nothing but overly emotional testimonials (with dramatic piano music playing) for a solid hour. They will all end with a "final thought" about how we need something mystical in our world and scientists SUCK. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 20th July 2005 I'd say that Titus and Arrested Development are on the same level as Seinfeld. family guy vs. futerama - A Black Falcon - 20th July 2005 Seinfeld is completely uninteresting... it's one of the shows that, if I see it on, I immediately change the channel. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 20th July 2005 It's actually quite good. family guy vs. futerama - A Black Falcon - 20th July 2005 That's the popular opinion, but I don't agree. :) family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 20th July 2005 Obviously not. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 22nd July 2005 I can't believe that Rock Lobster is a real song! I was positive that something that crazy and random could only be the product of Peter Griffin's mind. I'm downloading it now, even as I write this. family guy vs. futerama - dex - 9th August 2005 rock lopster is also on donkey konga) that episode was hilarious family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 1st September 2005 I like 'em both, but I agree with the points brought up by ABF and Darunia. I like Futurama better because of the sci-fi setting and the stronger focus on plot and character development. Don't get me wrong, Family Guy is funny (in fact, in terms of humor, Family Guy dominates) but I like Futurama better overall. I couldn't live without 'em both though. :P family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 1st September 2005 Here, here. I have all seven seasons between both series on DVD... and while few of my friends appreciate Futurama as much as I do, it'll always have a special place in my enormous, fleshy Goron heart. family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 2nd September 2005 The next season of Family Guy should be out in November if what I've heard is correct. I also heard that they're making a Futurama movie, but nothing is confirmed yet. I hope the rumors are true because we need more Futurama! I don't see why The Simpsons is being dragged on for at least another two seasons while Futurama stays canceled. Fox canceled the wrong show. If they uncanceled Family Guy, why not uncancel Futurama too? It's doing well on Adult Swim and its DVD sales are also high. So anyway... yeah, I have all four volumes of Futurama, both volumes (the first three seasons) of Family Guy currently out, the first six seasons of The Simpsons, and the first five seasons of South Park, with the sixth season coming in October. I live off of these shows. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 2nd September 2005 Good questions Geno. The Simpsons... I was insanely addicted to that show from third grade right through nineth... I knew every episode when they only had two hundred of them. Now, I'll only occasionally watch it, if I'm early for the new episode of Family Guy. The last... what, six seasons now, have been increasingly poor. God, I wish Futurama would be un-cancelled... I'd give my right testicle for that. And I'd give the other for a Futurama movie... but then how would the next generation of Darunias ever take the throne? family guy vs. futerama - A Black Falcon - 2nd September 2005 Futurama wasn't uncancelled because it's more expensive to make than Family Guy... their ratings on Cartoon Network are similar, I believe. But yes, Fox cancelling that was awful... that and Firefly... :( family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 2nd September 2005 The animation was so unique, too... it wasn't just drawn by hand, it was... well someone here must know what I'm talking about... was it computerized? family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 3rd September 2005 I'm pretty sure it's all digital, meaning that most everything is drawn and colored on a computer rather than by hand on cels. Animes have been doing this for years as well. family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 3rd September 2005 Yeah, a lot of it had to be done on a computer. (There's no way someone could've drawn that ship by hand.) The Simpsons really began to decline when Mike Scully took over writing around Season 9. He ran the show up through Season 12. The show improved a little bit after he left, but not a whole lot. Season 16 was mediocre from what little I saw. (Like Darunia, I would sometimes see it if I was early for the new Family Guy.) I have the first six seasons of The Simpsons on DVD. Now these are funny! The first two seasons are sort of okay, but the ones that follow are great, especially Seasons 4 and 6. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 3rd September 2005 Yea, the Simpsons got really good in 1994... remember Who Shot Mr. Burns? Haha... it continued being really good through, like I said, 1999-2000. So many good times watching that show, I never missed an episode, had all the books, videogames... now they lack good writing and stories, so they have lame-ass "guest stars", just like any other sitcom. That, and they tinker with politics, like when Selma turned out to be lesbian... I hate it when shows I like turn too political... South Park is another example. family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 3rd September 2005 South Park has especially gone political. I can form my own beliefs, thank you very much. I still like some of South Park's newer episodes, but alas, it is past its prime. The best episodes are the ones that don't deal with politics; I watch TV to escape that sort of thing. And actually, I think it was Patty who turned out to be a lesbian, not Selma. As if Karl and Smithers weren't enough token gay characters. In fact, if I recall, Selma married Sideshow Bob back in Season 3. Yeah, Who Shot Mr. Burns? was a funny as hell two-parter. (Though it actually aired in 1995, not 1994. Yes, I'm a nitpicky nerd.) To think, little Maggie is a near-assassin. They grow up so fast. (Actually, it's been 16 years and she hasn't aged a day, save for her first birthday special.) I'm especially fond of the Sideshow Bob episodes. As you can tell from my avatar, Sideshow Bob is one of my favorite characters. My favorite is Cape Feare. Damn, what a great show that was. It didn't deserve the fate it got. family guy vs. futerama - CoconutCommander - 4th September 2005 I'm not trying to be contrary here, but I like it when cartoons get political. As long as the jokes keep coming I don't care what the topic of the day is. What I don't like is when a cartoon takes a break from joke telling and entertaining to push the creator's agenda. That is the kinda stuff that busts my chops. family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 4th September 2005 CoconutCommander Wrote:I'm not trying to be contrary here, but I like it when cartoons get political. That is the kinda stuff that busts my chops. Yeah, that's what I meant. I don't like it when they preach their political views. It doesn't bother me too much if they have a little topical humor though. Like Murphy Brown. "Blabbity blah blah the Ayatollah." *laugh track* family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 4th September 2005 I like South Park when it's incredibly imaginative and random, like Trapper Keeper, and the Halloween special with Korn... I DON'T like episodes that hammer again and again how great the world would be if we were all gay, or when they try to reconcile both sides of the Iraq debate. It reached its zentih right about the time Timmy came out, maybe a season later... but has been sliding ever since. It can still be hysterical, but it's gone too far with its politicla tampering to be as innocently stupid as it used to be. family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 4th September 2005 Yeah, the early episodes kicked ass. They've had some good episodes within the past few years (Canceled, Lil' Crime Stoppers, Christian Rock Hard, Casa Bonita, It's Christmas in Canada, You Got F'ed in the A, The Jeffersons, Preschool, Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset, Best Friends Forever, The Death of Eric Cartman) but I do miss the old days. What's up with Jimmy having sex with a hooker? I remember back when Stan didn't know what a homosexual was (Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride) and when the boys asked Chef what a lesbian was (Tom's Rhinoplasty.) Now they're having plastic surgery to become tall and black and leading political crusades of all sorts. Whatever happened to Stan throwing up on Wendy? Well, now they've broken up and Stan began acting like an angsty teenager and joined the Goth kids as a result. South Park has some flame left, but if they don't cancel it within the next year or so, it'll become just like The Simpsons. Futurama didn't survive long enough to jump the shark. In fact, it was just starting to get really good. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 4th September 2005 Even if all the others TV shows fail us, we'll always have Aqua Teen Hunger Force... family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 4th September 2005 Yea, ATHF is all right, but it's no Futurama. :( family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 4th September 2005 I've only watched a tiny bit of ATHF, but I do like it. However, I have to agree with Darunia, it's certainly no Futurama. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 4th September 2005 It's a tough decision to make but...I'd put Aqua Teen Hunger Force above Futurama and Family Guy. To me it's just that good. family guy vs. futerama - A Black Falcon - 4th September 2005 Hmm... I think Futurama is better than AHTF, but both are certainly great... Family Guy doesn't quite match up, though it's mostly good too. family guy vs. futerama - Great Rumbler - 4th September 2005 At least we get new episodes of Aqua Teen... family guy vs. futerama - Geno - 4th September 2005 I haven't quite gotten into ATHF as much as the rest of you, so I'd rank Futurama and Family Guy higher, but they're all good. family guy vs. futerama - Darunia - 4th September 2005 ATHF is hit or miss. Some episodes are pretty good, but some are just plain stupid. |
