Our senate works on a regional basis, rather than a provincial. Which makes it seem really strange sometimes, like how New Brunswick has more seats than Alberta, while Alberta has a population that's almost 2 times larger. But the Atlantic in total has about the same number of seats as the Praries.
If I remember corectly the regions are like this
Atlantic (Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labradour, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick)

Quebec

Ontario

Praries (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut)

Pacific (British Columbia, Yukon Territories)

They haven't re-done the system for a while though, so it's not really balanced that well.

I just thought I'd post this here. This particular person happens to host a page that reveals many mistakes people make with math. For example, the dimensional unawareness. In less dimensions, something can seem like a much bigger deal than in bigger dimensions, for example while in 1D, lining up everyone end to end would stretch to the moon and back, in 2D, suddenly everyone can live in the space of Texas with a population density similar to New York, and in 3D, everyone can have a small apartment, all stacked on top of each other as well as side by side, and it wouldn't fill up the Grand Canyon.

Anyway, this person is pretty logical, and is pointing out here the problems with counting votes unless the terms are clearly outlined to start with.

That's a very interesting read.

And here's a glossery of what this guy has concluded to be very common mistakes, and his reasoning behind why they are in fact mistakes.

I find all the ones I've read so far to be very well thought out and logical.

One of the large polling companies in Canada conducted a pole and asked Canadians who they'd vote for if they could vote for US President. 60% said Kerry. There was also a sizeable chunk going to Nader. Regionally Quebec had the highest number who said they'd vote for Kerry, 69%. Even in Alberta, the conservative heartland of Canada 57% said they'd vote for Kerry if they could

I guess it's a good thing they can't then.

Indeed, considering Canadians ar NOT Americans!

(Wow, this particular linux browser autospellchecks everything...)

Seriously, I've heard one too many times the sentiment of foreigners that they should, for some reason, have a say in presidential elections. Fine, you can, if you just depatriate from YOUR country and immigrate legally over here! Yeesh, how offensive...

In other news, though I can't find a link, some news stations are reporting that this hliarious flash is being sued for copyright infringment in using that song.

First off, I thought this song was public domain!

Second off, am I the only one who sees the irony here? Apparently, this song is NOT our song.

And given how the US is the most powerful nation in the world, people in other countries obviously should care who the US president is. What we do affects everyone.

This land belongs to me... - Dark Lord Neo - 27th July 2004

I never said we should be able to vote for US President, I just said in a poll of who they would vote for if they could .

I doubt that company would ever win in court since the person that made the flash isn't getting any money from it. The company will probably try to convince the person that made it to settle out of court.

Actually, the jib jab guys are selling shirts and thus making money... I still think they don't have MUCH of a case, or only as much as someone suing Weird Al would have.

Didn't the US Supreme court rule that paroding somthing counts as freedom of speech.

This land belongs to me... - A Black Falcon - 27th July 2004

And that will be exactly their arguement: parody. I doubt that the copyright holders have much of a case, really.

This land belongs to me... - Weltall - 28th July 2004

I don'tthink they do either. When you think about how many thousands of popular songs have been used in this same manner, there's really no leg to stand on against the parody claim.
