In a very short time one of the coolest racers ever will finally be released: F-Zero GX!

It's only six days away!
Woo!

I played it a few hours ago at Best Buy and it's super keen! I can't wait!
I still haven't played the demo, but the video shown on the Zelda bonus disc has had me dying for this game. Bring it on!
The demodisc movie is a shredded version of the phenominal 3-minuite movie released early this year. Download that......... Eek Eek Eek Eek Eek Eek Eek

This game will be phenominal.
Doesn't it come out the 25th?

I'm going to scan Orlando for places that have F-Zero AC, there's a place up the road here that lets you smoke in the arcade. Pretty nice.

I cant believe F-Zero and PN 03 are released so close together, it's a good thing I have no time on my hands.
Yes, it's going to be released on the 25th.

There's an arcade near where I live that's owned by Namco, or at least sponsored in some way, and they get a lot of new Namco arcades like Soul Calibur 2 and Time Crisis 3, and since the Triforce arcade board is partly made by Namco there's a good chance that the arcade will get F-Zero AC. At least that's what I'm hoping.
i must have this game now. NOW!NOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOW

So much for the countdown. Anyway, F-Zero is coming out...today, actually!
Nothing ever works here.

I don't get the game until tomorrow!
I don't have any money, so I probably won't be getting it till the end of this week.
Haha, sucks for you!

j/k

I feel for you, bubba. I really do.
There's always the possiblity that my brother will buy and then make me pay for half of it later, but I don't think he has any money either.
I could lend you some money.
I just preordered it todday. :) Yeah, pretty late, but I just wanted to be sure I'd get a copy tomorrow. The guy at EB was gushing about the game. He seem even more excited about it than me. I'm so glad classes don't start until Wednesday. I hope I remember to eat and go to the bathroom tomorrow.
In related news, stupid-ass EGM gave the game a 9 and two 7's. Why did it get two 7's? Because it was too hard. :S What pussies these new reviewers are.
Oh, is that coming out soon?
*everyone throws various pieces of furniture at LL*

I guess I'm just not really into games right now. Soul Calibur 2 is coming out soon too, right? I really think the only game I will buy this year is Mario Kart. I'm sure F-Zero and Soul Calibur and Rebel Strike and all those others will be cool, but I just don't seem to care. :(
:S

So what, you're not into games anymore?
I feel that way ocassionally LL. I just don't get excited about games like I did when I was younger. I'm excited for F-Zero since it's one of the few racing series I like, but I just don't anticipate a game for months like I used to. I guess videogames are starting to take a backseat to other hobbies. You'd still better try to get a job at Nintendo, though. I want to get inside info. :)
I'm sure he still loves games, but dead interest occurs all the time for us gamers. This is ESPECIALLY true, oddly enough, when one is deep in training to MAKE games. Perhaps it's because one's own ideas for cool games preempt cares about other designer's games. I know I occasionally feel that way myself at times. I'll be getting Soul Caliber 2, since I pre-ordered it, but aside from that I don't think I'll be getting any more games this year, aside from Christmas. Then again, Christmas is the time of year when all the cares drop out of the way in favor of love! That's why even pretend presents are fun on Christmas, just ask Rod and Tod!
I still would love to make games, but playing just doesn't interest me. I think it's because it used to be the only thing I did, and now I've made other things in my life the priority. It's always been a social thing for me too, something I did with my brother or friends, and I just don't get the chance to play with other people much anymore. But I don't really miss it either.
But-but so many great games are coming out this year! Fire Emblem, Half-Life 2, Deus Ex 2, Rebel Strike, F-Zero GX, MGS Twin Snakes, Ninja Gaiden, FF Tactics Advance, Mario Kart DD, Pikmin 2, Viewtiful Joe, Prince of Persia, Mario 3, Castlevania (PS2), and a whole bunch of other great games. It's a good year to be a gamer! And then I start game design school soon, which is going to be great. I'll finally be able to fulfil my life-long dream...
And as usual I want a LOT of games but will get just a couple of them. Oh well...

The next game I will get will be Warcraft III's expansion. I haven't had enough money to get it until now, you see, so its first priority... but since my birthday was last week I now have some money, I'll almost certainly be able to afford my second priority also: F-Zero GX. :) :) :)
I just found out that the multiplayer in F-Zero GX has no bots, just like the N64 game.

WHY, NINTENDO??!!! WHY???!!!
Uhhh.... F-Zero X has two bots in 2-player, 1 bot in 3-player, and none in 4-player, not 'no bots'...

Oh yeah, and I never expected GX to have good multiplay. F-Zero X's frankly stunk (well maybe that's too strong, but it really was pretty pathetic compared to the single player...), so I didn't have high hopes for this sequel. And it looks like I was right... oh well, I'll mostly be playing single anyway.
You know what I meant. No 20-something bots like the single-player mode.

The multiplayer is still a lot of fun.
Actually we didn't know that's what you meant. You just said "no bots" which means the OPPOSITE of "has bots". And OB1, trust me, when you start the path to the dream, MAKING games becomes far more interesting than playing them. In fact, I haven't played any games in a good while, only recently getting into Frozen Throne now that my PC is back in full working order, and that mainly for inspiration. Weird I know. I LOVE games, but for some odd reason... Of course, I do still play them now and again, but lately it's mainly for multiplayer.

Oh and ABF, so you know, I was dead on in my suspicions of what happens in Frozen Throne, and also dead wrong about other things I thought would happen :D. You'll see what I mean, maybe.
I have worked on some 3D FPS mods and am currently working on a 2D strategy game (from scratch) with some friends of mine, so yes I know that making games is more fun than playing them. Well for the most part that's true.

ABF knew what I meant by "no bots" because I also said "just like the N64 game".
Quote:ABF knew what I meant by "no bots" because I also said "just like the N64 game".

Actually, as I said in my last post, I didn't know what you meant and was confused because I knew that X had bots, unlike your statement that it 'didn't have any'... that statement didn't make sense. I don't see how you expect us to decipher that you meant something else...

Frozen Throne... I'll get that when I get F-Zero, the next time I can get to the mall... now that I have some money from my birthday. Hopefully it'll be sooner and not later... but I bet it has a sad storyline? :)
In four player mode there are no bots. The bots just substitute the other players in 2-3 player mode.
Just like X. Pathetic. :bang:
It's still a million times better than any other futuristic racing game out there.
A million times? No. Somewhat better than any before it? Sounds like it... but there are some REALLY good games in the genre. Sure this one's really, really great... but its not exactly a genre that lacks for great games, at least in my opinion (given that its my favorite subgenre of racing games...).
Yet again ABF makes a claim on a game that he's never played. Classic ABF.

None of your crappy Extreme G games can compare to the F-Zero series, especially this new one.
Note I said its probably the best in the genre. I am just saying that there are a lot of very good games in the futuristic arcadish racing game genre...
F-Zero is in a league of its own.
Sure, its the best series in the genre, but not by all that much.

Extreme-G 2? That's just one of them. The Wipeout series, the Rollcage series (poor Psygnosis... :( ), Pod, and the Rush series (esp. 2049) all are really, really good too...
Extreme-G 1&2 were lackluster F-Zero copycats with crappy car handling and even worse track design, the only Wipeout game that can even be compared to F-Zero is Wipeout Fusion (which I assume you've never played), and it's a joke to even put Rush 2049 (even though it is a fun game) on the same level as F-Zero.

Oh and your mom told me to tell you that she doesn't love you anymore. Chuckle
Wipeout 64 is a truly great game. Ever since I bought the game its been right near the top of my 'favorite n64 games' list... and while now I do think F-Zero X is better, its not by much. Not by much at all...

Rush 2049 is right up there with those two, as is Extreme-G 2, Rollcage Stage 2 (GREAT racing game! Easily among the best in this subgenre...), Pod, and probably some others (Rollcage 1, the other Wipeout games... which I haven't played but imagine are as good as the ones I have...).

Different ones are best at different things.

F-Zero X has the best single player campaign.

Rush 2049 has the best non-racing modes.

Wipeout 64 has the the best 2-player race mode.

Rush 2049 has the best overall multiplayer.

Etc... every one of these is good at something...

Extreme-G 2? Its got what is probably the best music... and its one of the hardest of the ones that I have played to complete the standard game once.

Oh yeah, and it has good tracks! I really like the track design in XG2... its also got great vehicle designs, a very nice weapons system with some cool weapons, great challenge... what more can you ask for?

F-Zero clone? Are you nuts? XG2 isn't a F-Zero clone... now XG3 is, but not XG2.

Rollcage? hmm... the mode (forget the name) where you have to get through really hard challenge courses on special tracks in a time limit. Those evil, evil roads just as wide as your car... that mode was probably more fun than the actual racing one, actually. :)
Hey that's alright. I'm fine with Darunia liking Quest 64 more than Metroid Prime, so I can be fine with you liking Wipeout 64 and Rush 2049 as much as F-Zero X. That's a-ok. Everyone is allowed a few insane opinions. :shakeit:
Excitebike 64 is the other N64 racer in the same class as those three.

Oh yeah, and XG2 for N64 is indeed no good... the terrible framerates on the N64 version are on the nearly unplayable level far too often!

Oh yeah, and don't act like I'm stupid for liking those games. You just clearly do not like the subgenre very much -- which is fine with me, as long as you just admit that fact! I mean... those are easily some of the best in the genre that I listed there. Yet you pass them ALL off as bad or mediocre. That says everything I ever needed to know about what you think of futuristic racers.

So you dislike the genre. I love it... so is it SO surprising that I think a bunch of games in the genre are really good? Comparing that to Darunia and his love of Quest is truly idiotic.

Oh yeah, and F-Zero X just isn't so far ahead that its clear that its the best. Not even close. Why?

1) music. Its okay, but not nearly as good as Rush 2049's, Wipeout 64's, or Extreme-G 2's music. Oh, sure, I think F-Zero has nice music... but Wipeout, Extreme-G 2, and Rush 2049 (in that order) are all better.

2) multiplayer. F-Zero X, compared to Wipeout 64 and Rush 2049, is about as fun as Star Fox 64 when compared to Goldeneye... its just lackluster.

Which is why when me and my cousin play F-Zero X we generally play either the campaign mode or timetrial, not multiplay... its just not that fun!

3) that incredibly annoying '3-2-1 go'
mechanical voice... it is awful!

4) replay value... or lack of it. Once you beat Master mode, all that's left is trying to unlock (and futily trying to beat) the staff ghosts in timetrial mode -- something that just doesn't interest me much at all. What's so great about F-Zero X is the feeling of racing in a big crowd of cars! When you're all alone it's not nearly as fun... Wipeout 64 is better, since you can try to get gold medals -- an extremely challenging (and admittedly reward-free... but hey, you do it for the fun factor, not for rewards...) task that is far harder than anything in the main race mode of F-Zero X.

As for Rush... that one has near-unlimited replay value, between the sheer fun of just driving around in the various modes and the challenge of those coins...

Also... how about you read the rest of my post, that I added in the edit? :)
Actually comparing this to Darunia and Quest 64 is very accurate. The Rush, WO, and especially XG games are crap compared to the F-Zero series. But that's okay, you even like that POS Oni game. It's alright, ABF. You can like all of the crappy games in the world. It's FINE BY ME.

More bots in a crappier racing game still leaves it as a crappier racing game, and only Wipeout had good music. The stuff in Rush and Extreme G is generic techno trash. F-Zero's X's music wasn't as good as WO's, but GX's is close.

It is impossible to say "I like futuristic racers but don't think Wipeout, Rollcage, XG, etc are any good". Impossible. So you are actually saying "I don't really like futuristic racers and think you are stupid for liking them". Which is a REALLY, REALLY dumb thing to say.

I don't like football games but never would say that someone is stupid for liking one... why must you do that constantly? It's so annoying and makes you look so incredibly stupid!

JUST BECAUSE YOUR BIZARRE STANDARDS SAY IT IS BAD DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS.

What do I mean by that? I mean that lots of people agree with my opinion on this issue. As in, Wipeout 64 and Rush 2049 aren't quite as good as F-Zero X, but they're pretty close.

I believe IGN's review of Wipeout 64 even says that they thought it was better than F-Zero X... one review of the game I read did, anyway. And in some ways it certainly is, as I explained below in detail (and you ignored except to say I was stupid). How about instead of just saying "you're wrong and stupid" you give a EXPLANATION, like I did, huh? No? Its kind of hard to discuss a game when only one person really participates!

Declarations that very good, high-scoring racing games are bad and people who agree with the vast majority of reviews idiots isn't exactly a way to get one any respect... but you clearly do not understand that concept. It IS a big part of why people can't stand your arguing style, you know... :gets comment that I'm stupid for liking those games:

All I want is instead of you slinging insults is for you to do like I have tried to do in this thread and actually analyze the respective good qualities of these games. But clearly it is way too much to ask... :(

At LEAST you could just say that you dislike the genre, which is a plainly obvious fact that explains why you dislike some of the best games available in it! Won't you at least do THAT? Because if you try to deny it at this point you'll just look like a moron, after saying that pretty much all of the best games in it are bad...
Crap compared to FZero series? Out of those games listed, I've really only spent good time with the Wipeout series, and I certainly think they're quality racers.

WipeOut 2097 (XL) and Wipeout Fusion in particular are really great fun, IMO. :)
Dear Mr. Falcon,

I've always wanted to write a letter to you, but I've never been able to muster up the courage to do so. People are so informal these days, and I miss the age of fanciness and formal..ness. I would like you to know that I think you are a very confused and frustrated young man, but that I still think that you're neat. I would also like to say that I'm a big fan of the futuristic racing genre and have been playing them longer than you have. I've owned and played all of the Wipeout games and really do enjoy them, and I even had some fun with those average Extreme G games. Rush 2049 is fun but not really what I'd call a futuristic racer. It's just not far-out enough, do you know what I mean? POD isn't very good and most futuristic racing games really are pretty crappy, but I do enjoy a lot of them and consider myself a fan of the genre. F-Zero, however, is king. It is the pimp-daddy of the futuristic racing genre (excuse my urban slang if it doesn't sound right, as I'm not used to talking like that) and in my opinion is just so much better than any other game in the genre that I simply don't even compare it to them. I have no qualms with you liking the crappier games more, so please do not feel offended by my not liking them as much as you do. Please try not to turn every single thread into a big debating war. It's very tiresome.

Sincerely,

Daniel Coleman
OB1. Okay. Now... try to think about this some more. Then admit to yourself the obvious fact that the rest of us can so plainly see: Once again, you are acting like your opinion, which is in a very small minority of the opinions of people who like these games, is not just dominant but the only correct one.

Now... if reviews, gaming websites, other people here, etc. ALSO expressed the opinion that F-Zero X blows away the rest of its contempraries, this would be very different... but far from doing that, they do pretty much the opposite.

I'm afraid that you won't find much support here or anywhere for the idea that F-Zero is somehow by dramatic amounts better than the rest of the subgenre its in. That's because its not an opinion that most people share! Sure, lots of people think F-Zero X is really great... but many/most of them like other futuristic racers are nearly as good or maybe in some cases better. That is quite clear based on reviews I have read from both IGN and Gamespot...

Just like Oni, you take a decidedly tiny minority viewpoint and make it sound like it is the vast majority and the rest of the world is silly and stupidly wrong.

I am not sorry to say that that viewpoint of yours is horribly inaccurate.

Oh, its fine as YOUR viewpoint... but its not fine to say that its the only viewpoint that people who think about it would take, because its so clearly not! Its a mix of opinion and biases... yours mix in some strange ways it is clear, and we get this as a result.

I try to only say that games that are actually BAD are bad... ones that I can tell are good but aren't really my thing I state as such. You mix those two dramatically different categories so completely that it becomes impossible to sort them out... which results in very bad things for people trying to talk about those games with you, since you absolutely refuse to seperate those two polar opposite categories!

Dethkarz is an example of a good futuristic racing game that just isn't my thing. Do I find it frusterating and not too fun? Yeah. But is it "bad"? No. You, I'm sure, in my position would say it is and that anyone who likes it is stupid... which is wrong, of course, but you'll never admit to it. Only games the great OB1 likes can be on any good games list!
Well yeah! We're supposed to defend our own points of views, right? I don't care what other reviewers think (Halo got rave reviews yet was one of the most dissapointing games of 2001) since those are just their opinions. I play lots of racing games and none of the futuristic ones come close to F-Zero X or GX.

Come on now, ABF. Just admit that you like lots of crappy games and be over with it.
Okay, I admit that Pod is a game which didn't exactly get great reviews... I think they were mostly 6'es. So if someone dislikes it I can understand... it has no weapons, the speed of the cars is fairly slow, etc... I admit that it has flaws. I just happen to be one of the people who love it (and there IS (er... was...) a good-sized community of people who loved the game...

Extreme-G 2 is one of the most maligned great games of recent memory. If only it had either come out later for a more capable platform or the PC version had reached wide circulation... its really too bad that it was doomed to die remembered as a bad N64 game, because behind that bad framerate is a game that is a very good competitor with anything in the genre... but I won't discuss this one with you because you've only played the N64 version... and since you find framerates so important, no wonder you found it bad. The major framerate problems in that version of the game make the whole experience so much worse...

As for Rollcage, you haven't played it, clearly. Has anyone here played Rollcage, Rollcage Stage II, or Death Track Racing (that's Rollcage Stage II for PC... it just has that name on the box. :) )?

Rush we've discussed many times. No need for that one again.

Wipeout... I am surprised that you think its that much worse than F-Zero. Wipeout is pretty widely regarded as one of the best (or maybe the best) series of games in the whole genre... in no way that matters are they far enough behind F-Zero to matter.

(mostly talking about the N64 games here)
I've played the Rollcage games. Good fun, though not as good as WipeoutXL or FZero X. I'm still waiting for Stuido Liverpool (formerly Psygnosis) to announce an upcoming rollcage. With online, too!
I like bad games? Oh, sorry for trying to say that games which got lots of high scores (over an 8) such as Rollcage 1 and 2 (both of which scored that high on the PC), Wipeout (from XL on they are great... 64, for example, scored well over 9...), and Extreme-G 2 (it got, I believe, a 8.2 from PC gamer, and the main complaint was the lack of multiplayer... which is of course the only major complaint with that game...), and have lots of fans, are bad. So sorry for being so deluded that I think great games that got recognition for being very good are very good... Rolleyes

Oh yeah, and your response just makes every point I made more obviously correct.

Oh... anyone else in this discussion. Read my post (three posts up). Then read his four-line response.

Note how all he does is reaffirm that my analysis of OB1 there is completely accurate? I even called his response almost to the word... because I knew he'd never actually fully read and respond to that post, just like he hasn't actually responded in any kind of detail to a single one of my posts in this discussion yet...
