Quote:At Nintendo's news conference today, President Satoru Iwata announced the company is planning a new gaming product which would "give a fresh surprise to consumers." No specific details were given about the product, only that more information would be announced in the Spring of 2004. As to whether or not the product would be a rival to Sony's PSP, Iwata had this to say: "Basically I believe Sony's multi-function handheld device will not have big impact on our business, but we are, whether Sony releases a new product or not, preparing for our future... and we'll be able to tell you specifics next spring." Iwata declined to comment on whether the product would be hardware or software, and also had no information on when said product would hit the market. He did, however, confirm that Nintendo would be releasing it's new home console in 2005 or 2006.

Iwata also announced a new program called 'Club Nintendo', in which gamers can accumulate points by buying Nintendo games. These points can be saved up in order to earn Nintendo related products. "We plan to begin the new program in Japan and the United States by the end of this year. We aim to have 300,000-500,000 users to sign up for the program in the first year after release," he told the press. No details were given as to the nature of the products earned with the point system.

A mystery product? Time to start guessing what it is!!

I like the idea of a reward program, because I buy Nintendo games all the time.
Quote:"Basically I believe Sony's multi-function handheld device will not have big impact on our business..."

Yeah right, just like they said that the Gamecube isn't really competing with the X-Box and PS2.

I don't know what to make of this announcement, but I'm guessing that it's either a new Nintendo handheld, that long-rumored 3D chip for GBA software (yeah like that will be a match for the PSP), or something really lame and gimmicky.
Given Nintendo's recent history... I bet lame and gimmicky.
Probably. :(

Hmm...
Yeah he kinda gave away the fact that it's going to be handheld-related, didn't he? Chuckle
Either that or their going to have a big press conference thing in Spring 2004.
Judging by Nintendo's recent idea of "unique" and "innovative," this product to be unveiled in the spring will be Pokemon Pikachu 2: with squirt gun power!
Nah, that's not innovative... now a squirt gun that shoots different colors of water that do different things to your enemies, that's right up there with the best of them!
I love the mystery product! It's... something... in a box!
If it is something inside of a mystery box, I hope this doesn't have the same outcome that happened with the mystery box on Wheel of Fish.

"What's inside the box??? Nothing!!! STUPID! You so STOOOO PUUUUUDD!!!"
Hahaha, I love that movie!

He said that in Spring 2004 he would give more info about their new handheld and their mystery product, we assumed that that meant they were the same thing, but E3 is in Spring.
Maybe it's a new re-release of Pac Man, but now with an awesome four-player!!

:D

I wish it'd be some awesome new Mario game...for the GC. Something really original that'll mix good, new graphics with nostalgic SNES gameplay. Something like a cool, new 3D Super Mario World that feels and plays like the SNES classics.
They're already working on Mario 128, so I doubt it's another Mario game. It still could be some kind of game, though.
I'll bet one American dollar it has something to do with Nintendo's next home console and how it will integrate with the GBA SP and it's replacement. All of which will have no release date and will probably be available sometime after the next Polar Shift in the Gamma Quadrant of Sakkton 8, located behind the Class M Planet complex of the Burger King/Taco Bell/General Motors hybrid of Burcoal Killtors where they manufacture and distribute Liqued Oxygen for the Sub-Sapien race of the Windex Eaters. The Nintendo Euphamism Ad Campaigner 7000 will be available for 4 credits X the number of times you have been cloned and/or re-birthed (no more than 6, if you have reached 6 lives, please see Emperor Gates for immeadiate disposal) and will be permanently ingrained in to your alpha body at the Earth Time of 8 PM on the first day of your nicco-HDD memory download. This does not apply if you are currently in the process of Wombing or if you own a breeding chamber within the Microsoft Galaxy.Thank you for your interest in downloading this Cortex AD Cap.

Nintendo - We read your thoughts, and we know what you did.

Sincerely,
The Automated Robot AD Unit ZZ Epsilon 2-25
Eek

That doesn't make any sense at all!
Well duh lazy! I was going to say that too but I had the sense to realize how OBVIOUS it is!
Hahahaha :D
But what about the resistance? There's always a resistance in situations like that.
Well the resistance lost.

The DS is our new emperor and it's touchy feely screen rules us all!
Man, a lot of people were completely wrong in this thread.
Except me. It WAS something in a box! Of course that was the most detailed an educated guess could GET at the time, but there it was!
You know, at this rate we'll run out of posts from 2003 to bump pretty soon... :)
