So celebrate the one group of people who have had the biggest effect on civilization, the inventors! For truly, politics come and go, but inventions survive from one civilization to the next!

I submit the fellow who invented those rubber thingies at the bottom of some stuff you set on... things... It's nice to support stuff like one's computer on those instead of on the metal which might cause scratchies.
I submit Louis Pastuer, for inventing a way to remove harmful germs from milk and other potable liquids.
Feast your eyes upon TC for the invention of the fruitless arguement infinitum! Bask in its glory.
Sliced bread!!!

Well seriously, I think sliced bread is greatly overrated... no bread that is any good to eat comes sliced. :)

Hmm... how about the internet? I know, not one specific inventor... but anyway, we could nominate someone...
Who invented the computer?

I know they had some weird Mechanicle ones in the 40's.
Hard to say, but the computer's most basic construct can be traced all the way back to the 1800's, before electricity (well, before it got used by us). It was something called the analytical engine.

I think Charles Babbage has been dubbed the inventor of the computer.
Yeah, Babbage and his Difference Engine idea was the first real computer... even if it isn't electronic or anything. :)
And circuit boards were created after WWII, if I remember right.
i think they used a primitive type of computer to crack Nazi codes during ww2.

The germans created the enigma clever coding machine which is like a computer though I wouldnt be to sure of that.

How about Al Gore? :D

You guys must all be slipping if you missed that one.
:D Yeah, but he never actually claimed to invent it anyway, so it's a tad unfair... Not that that makes a difference here though :D.

On another note, it seems IE DOES now allow individual site cookie management. In fact it likely did already and I just didn't notice this little icon down here on the bottom.
I didn't forget that he said that. I just know that it really was a group effort so it'd be dumb to give one person the whole credit for inventing the internet.
Tesla.

Death Beam anyone?
Tesla was cool. He still has a bad reputation in Colorado Springs. :D
