Quote:First up is a rumor that says that the Japanese gaming publication Nintendo Dream is reporting that Nintendo will possibly announce a new game on August 7th in Japan. So is there any truth to this? Nintendo Dream does report that Nintendo will have a meeting to go over their management policy. But this rumor says it is a press conference, it is not, and as far as I know Nintendo Dream has not gone on to say anything about new first party games. Is there a possibility that Nintendo will reveal a new game at a management meeting? Very unlikely. This may just be creating something out of nothing.

The other, more substantiated rumor comes from an interview in a French publication (which release far too many rumors to stay credible) that is being reported by JeuxFrance. According to the interview Nintendo has been going around to big publishers looking for someone to take up work on particular Nintendo franchises. Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Capcom's Shinji Mikami (worked on Resident Evil 4) would gladly develop a franchise title with Nintendo. Miyamoto also confirmed that Metroid Prime 2 would be released in 2004.

I wonder what franchise Capcom and Nintendo might potentially work on, Zelda perhaps?

N-Philes
Hmm, I don't put much faith into rumors anymore, not since the whole Megaton fiasco.
That Megaton thing was just something that got way out of control and kept getting spread around when it should have died off. This, however, is different.

The one about Capcom developing a Nintendo franchise sounds very likely.
Let's hope it's Kid Icarus.
Or Zelda, hahaha! I can't believe I forgot about Zelda. Since they already have experience with Zelda (the fantastic Oracle games and Four Swords/LttP port) they could probably make a good realistic-looking Zelda games to shut up all of the stupid anti-WW people. That could work.
Except Shiggy said the next Zelda would be celshaded. Although, Nintendo might team up with Capcom to make a celshaded Zelda game.

Also it could be Kid Icarus, but probably not.
Yeah Nintendo hates us too much. We didn't even get Pit in any of the SSB games!

Miyamoto said that the next GC Zelda would be cel-shaded, but there's always the possibility that Capcom could be working on a realistic Zelda for the N5.
Yeah, there is that.

But, what if they're working on a cel-shaded Metroid game! Just think about it, it'd be all cartoony and...and...yeah that idea sucks.
Yeah, we got the stupid Ice Climbers, but not Pit... :(

Oh, and I bet its just rumors. Zelda... Capcom is already working on some Zelda games... I wouldn't expect more. They could be doing something on another franchise, of course, but I don't know which...
I just want to see that all-new single-player GBA Zelda game that they're supposed to be working on.
Yeah, those GBA-GC Zelda games just aren't enough.
Indeed. I wonder if Nintendo actually plans on selling Tetra's Trackers and Pacman at full price...
In EGM, Shiggy said he was working with Namco to decided how to go about distributing Pacman. They're trying to decide wether to pack it in with a full Pac-man or to sell it seperately.
Knowing Nintendo they'll probably sell it for full price.
Nintendo sells Game Boy games like that for full price, not Cube games... it'll have more in it.
But how much more? The stuff they showed at E3 was definitely not good enough to warrant a full price.
I bet it's a... a cel-shaded Super Smash Brothers...done Capcom style! (whooya!) With...pit! (I wish)
the stupid anti-WW people.

That's right, because anyone not agreeing with you is stupid.
And misinformed, because when he is wrong he always admits it. Hey, he says so so its got to be true!
Haha, I knew you babies would complain about that remark, which is precisely why I made it.

:shakeit:
We should complain when you say something stupid... :)
What can I say? You WW-haters are easy targets.
Hater is a bad term when it is a game I think is good.
You should visit the ign boards.
Erm

Sane human beings wouldn't touch that forum with a 15 foot pole. :)
What happens is that a big Nintendo game comes out, everyone praises it, then a week later they come back to bash it like mad and talk about the "good old days" of gaming. It's quite sad.
You mean like when DK64 came out and everyone did the SAME thing here? :D
The fact you go there says things... :D
That's not true. The game was a definite step back from Banjo-Kazooie, but it was fun for a little while until the damn switching stuff made me go insane.
Oh yes, it is absolutely true. I thought of that almost immediately when you said that... because TC DID EXACTLY THAT!

Sure, DK64 isn't exactly innovative when compared to B-K... but it DID, imo, improve over the original game. For some reason I don't mind the collecting that much... I don't know, maybe its just the way Rare does platformers... because I didn't get anywhere near all the stars/whatevers in Rocket, Mario 64 (or Sunshine, but I haven't beaten that one yet), or Rayman 2... but did in DK64 and can see, if I put the time in to finish it, doing close to that in B-T.
What did it improve? The graphics were less sharp, the level design was very uninspired, and the whole switching characters thing was just so annoying.

And were you even here when DK64 came out? Didn't it come out at the end of '99?
Hmm... it was close. I first posted here in early December 1999... before I got the game at christmas, but I'm not sure exactly when it came out.

I didn't mind the character switching. Sure it meant more to do but there were enough differences between the characters to make it fun...

As for level design I thought it was fine. And the graphics were great.

Of course none of that is the main factor. Really... it seems that most people who played DK64 before BK, like me, prefer DK64, while for people who played BK first they like that one more. Not sure why but I have seen that trend...
I think it's because the people who played BK after DK64 got the insanity bug, which made them like bad stuff and dislike good stuff. That's the only answer that makes any real sense.
I just don't have problems with your "problems" with DK64... and don't see how you think BK actually has better graphics...

And I liked the various characters! It added more variety to the game... and more collecting? Well Rare makes collection-based 3d platformers a lot of fun...
The collecting was fun the first ten times it was done, but by the time DK64 came out it just got really tedious, and no other game had as much mindless collecting as DK. Just collecting for the sake of collecting.

BK's graphics are even sharper than BT's, even though it doesn't push the hardware as much. Everything just looks a lot more crisp than Dk64 and BT. BT pushed the N64 way too hard and the result was some really great textures but a prtty bad framerate and a loss in clarity. DK64 just had bland textures. BK has the best water, the best grass, and the sharpest look of the three. Oh and the level design is unmatched. Most of DK's levels were just hills with vines (like the first level in BK), but they did some really great stuff with BK.
DK64 was my second N64 3d platformer after Mario 64 so the collecting format was still relatively fresh. Of course, I'm having fun with B-T, so I don't know... :) I got Rayman 2 somewhere around there too, but that one I got for PC and anyway its a quite different format, with not much collecting that is relevant to the game...

B-K is for sure a great game. I just don't think its as good as DK64... I don't know, but its graphics aren't quite as good, and not having to collect all the items of one type in the same playthrough is quite nice. That is annoying in B-K...

And I just liked DK64. It was fun. The different characters were nice. The collecting? Not that bad... it varied your tasks a lot, and the different characters each have strengths they use. And I liked the level design... some of the levels especially I thought were great, but they were all good. Sure there were a couple I didn't like as much (the fantasy forest one and the first underwater one), but they aren't exactly bad either...

Don't B-T and Conker not use the expansion pack? I don't understand why they didn't use it to try to get better framerates... both games definitely have issues with that. I agree that B-T just goes a bit too far for N64 hardware... its a lot of fun but the framerate issues are a bit annoying.

Its probably just uniqueness. All three games are quite similar... and you just started out with one then because of how you liked it and the others are quite similar and not hugely better or anything you like it best. Same with me and DK64. :)
There was far less collecting in Banjo then there was in DK64, so complaining about having to collect all of notes in one level all at once but overlooking the insane amount of mindless collecting in Dk64 is absurd. The level design in Banjo is definitely superior to the level design in DK. Just take a look at Treasure Trove Cove, one of the best-designed levels in the genre.

And take a look at DK's textures vs. Banjo-Kazooie's. The level of clarity is amazing in BK while DK looks very bland. It's difficult to tell with these screenshots but you can still tell the difference. It's be best if you just revisited BK and DK64 on the N64.

Now that's just unfair. Those IGN shots are noticably blurrier than the Rare shots...

As for collecting why does DK64 supposedly have so, so much? It didn't seem dramatically more than other 3d platformers to me...
All of those screenshots are from ign, actually.

DK64 definitely has more crap to collect than Banjo does, and if you beat both games you'll see what I mean.

Also, with Banjo-Kazooie you have an incredible number of cool moves to perfom, while in DK each character has far fewer moves so you constantly have to swtich between characters. Being able to do all of that with just one (sorta) character is so much better.
Yeah yeah, so says someone from POD 6! I hate pod 6!
Hail squishface!
I just don't mind switching characters. :)

And as for collecting... what else can I say except that almost to the end the game kept the collecting fun enough for me to not use FAQs to hunt down golden banannas until I had only about 15-20 left?
You're nuts, is all. :p
:stupid: :D
:dragon:
Oh no, I'm sure scared now!
I have to agree with OB1. After playing and becoming obsessed with Banjo-Kazooie, DK64 just felt like I was being brutally raped by Rare. It took the tedious task of collecting too far and I just did not feel the need to continue. DK64 is the ONLY game I own that I have never finished. And I don't plan on ever finishing it. The game really does feel like a waste of time (and money, for that matter) to me.
