Wow, that looks terrific. Now as long as they drastically change the battle system and remove the whole stupid random-battle-every-two-friggin-seconds problem that I've had with every single DQ game I've ever played, I'll buy it! And when's it coming out? Sometime in 2004?

There's not one single decent Japanese RPG coming out this year, is there (I'm not interested in FF X-rehash)? Well I guess that leaves time to finish Xenosaga and get Suikoden III.
FFX-Rehash?

Rolleyes
FFX-2. Instead of getting an all-new regular FF game we just get a spin-off of FFX which uses the exact same graphics engine, the same basic battle system, most of the same characters, etc.
Spin off? It's a direct fucking sequal! Did you finish the game? It left itself totally open to a second one.

Fuck man, have you even read how the game plays?
Yeah I have. It's a spin-off, bubba. A sequel would be FF XII.
I just.. don't think it's a rehash.

They've changed far too much for it to be a rehash. A direct sequal is allowed to use the same graphics engine and have some of the same characters :p
Of course, but since all FF games share the same basic gameplay you expect them to create whole new worlds and characters for the sequels.

A whole new storyline continuing the last one, which features a varied battle/job system that will greatly change the way the game is played isn't enough to interest you?

Especially considering that everyones biggest gripe with FFX (linearity) seems to have been completely eradicated..
I never finished FF X so I'd get confused.

Aren't they also making this new one a bit simple in terms of story? Story is half the reason why people like FF.
Until FF games get rid of random battles they will be tedious and annoying.

You should Finish FFX, it's a bit out there, but very interesting. The ending is worth it alone. And if this removes a lot of the problems many people had with X, it may be worth playing for you. :)

This game should clear up a lot of questions left unanswered by X.
I'll buy it again after it becomes a GH title. I still have my save file.
Wow, it's been Platinum here for ages... :woo:
Yeah SCEA sucks.
Wow that game as potential to be the best 3D RPG since Quest64! It looks really good; I like the colorful flow of it.
I fail to see how this resembles Quest in any way...

I really hope you're joking, because there are a lot of 3D RPGs out there that are many times better than Quest 64.
I don't think there are any 3D RPGs that are worse than Quest 64, actually.
Well, there was Aydin Chronicles...
They're about the same.
I think Aidyn might be a bit better.

Oh, and I really shouldn't address this issue. I haven't played Quest 64, you see... but I did just download the rom, so I will soon. :)

Will it be more fun than Final Fantasy?
Wow, is that cell shading or more like the effect a game like Xenogears uses that imposes 2D sprites into a 3D world (yes, I'm aware technically they made some simple polygon models and mapped them on as textures, but you know what I mean)? It's hard to tell without motion when it looks like this. That's the only way to tell the diff in this case I think. If it IS cel shaded, it's the best cell shading ever! Even though they and their backgrounds are different styles, it seems to blend so well anyway. Sure there's a clash, but the clash seems to work in this case.

From what I understood, the battle system for FFX-2 IS going to be different, in fact more real time, than FFX. Haven't been reading up on it mind you though, so obviously I could be way off.

Skies of Arcadia is what you want to compare this to in regards to 3D RPGs, not Quest 64!

Now then, how about that uncertainty principle? You know, the one that DEMANDS that no one can ever know the full speed and position of any particle, and that ANY fixed knowledge would result in data that doesn't reflect reality?
You can't tell that that's cel-shading (one "l", DJ, not two)? Confused It's very obvious to me, and while the effect looks good I have seen much better. All they really did was put black outlines around the characters and parts of their clothing (like the pockets).
Oh, it cel-shaded? Really? Now that I look at it, it might be... I thought it was sprites...
Eh, either spelling works. The word cell is spelled with two l's anyway. Actually, I used BOTH spellings above :D.

Yeah, I think that's the sign of good cell shading someone once told me, that it's good when you can't tell if it's hand drawn or not.

I just found out why people love the look of wide screen. It's the golden rectangle! It's got the 1-1.618 ratio thing going! That ALWAYS looks good, because it is the RECTANGLE OF NATURE, and our brain is wired to LOVE it!
I think DQ7 uses a technique similar to Breath of Fire 5 and that is that make a character model very colorful then place a black outline around it and then say that it is cel-shaded, but it reall isn't.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for that demo disk I was suposed to get when I registered my PS2, I sent the registration card in on October 27th 2000, and I know they got the card because when I phoned them when my PS2 broke they had all my infromation.
I think the worst part of FFX not being platinum here is that the game isn't avalible anyware, so even if I was willing to pay full price for it I wouldn't be able to get it, I never got it because my PS2 hadn't worked for a long time and now that if finally works and I want FFX it's not avalible anyware, hopefully it will be re-released maybe as a greatest hits when X-2 comes out, come to think of it it's hard to find most Square EA games, not imposible but hard, I wonder if it has somthing to do witht he fact that they ended their distribution deal with EA when they merged with Enix and now nobody is distributing the games, FFVII is still just as easy to find as it's always been but it's being distributed by Sony
Indeed, GR. Calling that cel-shaded is a bit of a stretch, but it does look great for the game. If they were acually cel-shaded it might look weird against the pretty realistic-looking backgrounds.

And it's called "cel-shading" because it's supposed to look like a 2D cartoon, or cel animation. That's only one "l", not two.
