No, not like this... this is not okay! Sponsored tabs... what a horrible idea for users. And whether or not Mozilla goes through with this, I'm sure we'll see it eventually. I can't see Google passing on another moneymaking opportunity!
Mozilla is making a huge mistake, but I don't think that's what the other browser makers are going to do. For one thing, watch people flee from Firefox to another compilation of the same browser that removes the advertising. I don't think either Google or MS would risk angering such a wide audience.

(From my experience, Firefox is going back to "niche" status, with most of the people I know hearing "Chrome is better" from their kids. The kids are assumed to know what they are talking about because, as the popular wisdom would have it, kids are tech wizards by default.)
Chrome is in no way better, though. And yeah, I hope that this doesn't become anything... but now that the idea is out there, someone is going to act on it. :(
Well, if Firefox goes this route, Chrome will be better in at least one way. Otherwise, yeah, they're pretty much on par (which is good, nice to have healthy competition).
Chrome is p great. I guess the kids are alright after all.
Tabs above menu/buttons is bad design though!
How so? Heck, that's what Firefox does now. It's pretty standard really.
If Firefox actually does that now and there's no way to fix it, that'd be one more reason to ignore it... but it doesn't, you can use Firefox with a normal 'tabs as the bottom row of the menubar' setup. That's how Firefox looks for me after all!
You can adjust it, but I turned off the menu bar. I can access all the menu functions from the big orange "menu" button after all. Tabs at the top is really just personal preference, not exactly a mark for or against a browser in any objective terms.
Ugh, no menu bar... that trend Microsoft started back with Office '07 and such is so, so stupid and annoying! It makes accessing everything in the menus so much harder and more annoying, unless you can re-enable the menu bar of course......

As someone who constantly relies on my bookmark toolbar, I absolutely disagree.
You need to open more tabs then. :)
