Yeah, good puzzle games sure are addictive... so this year's game so far has been Picross 3D for the DS. Amazing game.. it's really hard, frustrating, unfair, and sometimes random (sometimes you are FORCED to guess, like, say, Minesweeper, and it's cruel...), but... it's a great, incredibly addictive game! It's a strategic puzzle game, and it's really good. The challenge of trying to figure out which blocks to remove is tough, but compelling. So yeah, I've been playing at least a little of it almost every day for a while now, even though, as the topic title suggests, some of the time I wonder why I am, with how tough and unfair it can be sometimes. :)
I love Minesweeper, so that sounds awesome.

As it turns out, Picross is available in some form on my phone, so I'm going to check it out the next time I'm on the can.
Yeah, Minesweeper's great. I like that game too, I've played quite a bit of Minesweeper over the years... great game to play for a few minutes.

Picross does have some similarities to Minesweeper... though I think I like Picross 3D for the DS even more than the 2d versions; the three-dimensional objects you're cutting out make the game even more interesting. But 2d Picross is good as well, yes.
Thanks for the rec, this game rocks. I don't mind some punishment by being forced to choose at random, even when that puts the odds much lower than what they were (see: Minesweeper and the 50% shots it throws at you, usually at least like 3 or 4 a game). I'm always looking for new mobile games, and these types are right up my alley.
I would just like to say that yes, I'm still hopelessly addicted to this game, and am still playing it on a daily basis; it's the only game I've been playing constantly so far this year. Picross 3D is hard, and sometimes unfair, but between memorization and skill, I'm working my way through it... and overall I've come to absolutely love the game. As before I think I do like this 3d version more than regular 2d Picross, though, so I'm not looking forward to finishing this -- yes, you can download more puzzles from the internet, or I could make some myself (yes, the game has a puzzle creator, and online level sharing!), but that's not a full replacement for a new game... and as of yet, there isn't another 3d Picross game, atl east not from Nintendo. It's sad. :(

Anyway, now I'm working my way through set 9 of Hard mode. The game has three main difficulties, Easy, Medium and Hard, each broken up into 10 sets of 12 puzzles (10 standard, plus two you unlock by getting the required number of no-miss puzzle completions in that set of puzzles). There are also several special puzzle sets along the way, for maybe 14-15 sets of puzzles per difficulty. And yeah, I'm nearing the end now, only a few dozen puzzles left... but yeah, they've gotten HARD! This is definitely a tough game now, even more so than before. My skills have improved over time -- this game does a good job of gradually increasing in difficulty as the players' skill improves -- but the game's gotten harder again... and yes, when I fail a puzzle repeatedly, it's frustrating. But yes, I keep coming back. :)
The DS has been home to a lot of amazing puzzle games.

So here's my question. Why is Picross 3D NOT on the 3DS? Why is Picross 3D a 2D game?
That is also a question that I wonder, and have no answer to. Why in the world haven't they done a 3DS version of Picross 3D yet??
