For anyone who hasn't heard of these...

Tom Hall of course made Commander Keen and Anachronox, among others. He's working on this game with Brenda Brathwaite, who was a designer on Wizardry 8 and some other classic RPGs. It's going to be a first-person RPG with turn-based combat. It's at ~$180,000 now, so it's got a ways to go before it gets funded. It better be, Tom Hall should be making real games again! Commander Keen's one of my favorite games ever, of course... and while I'd rather see him make a platformer, honestly, an RPG from the designers of Wizardry 8 and Anachronox? Yes, I will be getting this. The only question is, which tier... it's hard to decide.

Obsidian needs no introduction, I think... Chris Avellone's studio, and makers of many RPGs now. This one will be more traditional than any of the ones they've made since founding Obsidian, even more so than NWN2 I expect. It's going to be isometric viewed and with pausable real-time combat, like that game or Torment/Icewind Dale. It's already got several million dollars, so the question here is just if you want it... but if it's anywhere near as good as it should be, it'll certainly be worth getting!

Already put in some money on Project Eternity.
Great, so now you just need to think about how much to put on Oldschool RPG.
Not enough to get it across the finish line at its current rate, unfortunately. They really messed up by launching right in the middle of Obsidian's big project, should have waited a month or two.
Yeah, it's really too bad. I hope they try again, with more details in the original description (that combat description should have been there from the start, I think, for instance) and if they can manage it a lower goal and make it. This game really needs to get made! It's pretty much a new Wizardry. Sounds good.
Old School RPG/Shaker is officially dead. Expect it to reappear in a few months with a better initial pitch.
Yeah, I hope they make it next time. More details in the pitch would be good; heck, at first it didn't even have a name...

On the kickstarter note though, this one started now: Corey and Lori Cole's Hero U: Rogue to Redemption.

It's an RPG From the designers of the great Quest for Glory series. Now the QFG games are of course among my favorites; QFG1 and 4 are tied for being my favorite ever Sierra games. This game isn't really Quest for Glory, though -- the dungeons are much more topdown-RPG stuff, vaguely roguelike except with predesigned dungeons. It'll also have a story side in the school, but yeah, it's not QFG. I just hope that they can do a good job with this -- they say that they've always wanted to make a more traditional RPG, but haven't before -- even QFGV, with its hack and slash combat, had a lot of the puzzle and adventure stuff too.

This interview's great, explains a lot about what they want this game to be, and why they're making it. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/10/...ing-rogue/ Overall though, we'll see. I'll certainly donate at some level, but the $75 for an actual box? Not so sure. If it was a QFG-style game I probably would, but with something so different, I'm not entirely sure... and also, you're a rogue only in this game. The thief was my least favorite class in the QFG series... I'm more interested in the sequels they mention where you play as the other classes, I think. But I certainly will get this at some level. Hopefully it's good.
The couple trying to get funding for Hero-U are VERY close, but with 30,000 left to go and only 19 hours left on the clock, they may not make it.
They'll easily make it. The final day for any Kickstarter is huge, probably the biggest day outside of the first. Fence sitters who were waiting to see how close it got in the last day, people who already contributed but will up their amount, and new people brought in by word-of-mouth. If it was less than 75% there right now, I'd be a little worried.
I hope you're right, GR, but it's definitely very, very close...
$20,000 to go, so it's coming along well in the 11th hour.
And now it's got less than $1,500 to go in the last 5 hours.
Wasn't quite as easy for them as I thought it would be, but they still made it to their goal.
Awesome! Looking forward to this one. It's a big shame that all these big names from Sierra can't use their old properties any more, but they are doing well with the new ones.

Maybe Roberta Williams might even come back with a whole new fantasy adventure game.
I wasn't sure if it'd make it even on the final day, but it's great to see that it made it!

Next up: the Shadowgate remake kickstarter has about 4 days left, and hasn't been funded yet. Looks interesting.
