You may have all noticed that lately every comedy from sitcoms to movies seems to be banking on "the awkward" as the go to (or in some cases only) source of comedy. To me, it's old now. There's only so much poorly written dialog one can take before it just gets annoying. I feel this trend has worn out it's welcome.
A well-timed silent and awkward moment is a universal staple of comedy. It'll never get old.

There's something to be said for relying on it too much, but still, it's as much of a permanence in comedy as drawing jokes from a straight man / crazy man duo interaction.
I'll agree with you there. I was being hyperbolic. However, The Office, for example, trades in nothing but awkwardness. At a certain point, it just comes off as lazy and boring.
Yeah, I've only seen a bit of The Office, and I could see its schtick getting old pretty quickly. Christ, what are they on, like their 8th season?
Arrested Development did great awkward moments.

Arrested Development did great everything.
True.
The great thing about Arrested Development's awkward moments was that they weren't dry as a sandbag.
