Dark Jaguar Wrote:You really need to sit down and play Ground Zeroes though. It's a pretty dark little story, but it's got a few things to say about... Camp X-ray...
Camp what? Remember, the Metal Gear game I played the most of was 2, which I played half of back in 2002. Since then... uh, I got the GBC game a few years ago and played a bit of it before losing interest, and got MGS1 for PS1 several years back and played several hours into last year (my thoughts are in the PS1 Game Opinion Summaries update I posted this January; it's not awful, but I don't know if I care enough to go back and play more of it...), but that's about it. Oh, and I played part of the demo of one of the PSP games once. I've never played 3 or 4.

I know V is supposed to have a lot less cutscenes than the old more-story-than-gameplay games, though, which would be good, that certainly was one of my bigger problems with both 1 and 2.

Quote: I think it's just cheapness on Konami's part at this point.
I know Konami now is barely even a videogame developer (mobile games aside), but they had years to do this... that's seriously lazy. I don't care much myself, but I'm sure there are many people who would have liked to play 4 but didn't have a PS3.
So I got the current Humble Bundle, the Humble Capcom Bundle. I got the top tier, $15, to get Ultra Street Fighter IV; it's certainly the main draw. Otherwise I am also definitely interested in Strider, not so much the rest... though I'm sure I will try some of them.

PC DD - Humble Capcom Bundle - $15 for all the below
--
Strider (the new one)
Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Episode 1: Penal Colony
LOST PLANETĀ® 3 (I've played the first game for 360, it seems kind of bad...)
Bionic Commando: Rearmed - I already have this, so I didn't redeem the key. Anyone want a copy? It's a pretty good game!
Resident Evil 5 - Untold Stories (Bundle DLC)
Ultra Street Fighter IV (the main draw here; I have the original SFIV for PC, and SSFIVAE for 360, but not this for any platform and I have wanted it.)
Resident Evil Revelations (maybe it's alright? Probably not my thing though.)
DmC: Devil May Cry
Resident Evil 5 (have for 360, haven't bothered to try yet)
Resident Evil 4 (have for GC, it has nice graphics but the gameplay didn't hold my interest)
Remember Me (have for 360, it's not great)
Camp X-Ray is the camp located in Guantanamo Bay. There's been a bit of a kerfuffle over a bit of the torture going on there. Some head of state in the "United States" had said the place would be shut down, but to date it's still open. No one's made a big deal of that fact so I suppose it makes sense this is the first time you've heard of it.

Okay sorry :D, you've probably only known of it as "Guantanamo Bay" since that's all the news ever refers to it as, but when you talk of closing it, you're talking about the base. It doesn't make sense to close down a section of land itself after all. Actually, reading up about it, Camp X-Ray has since been replaced with a more permanent Camp Delta. So, Camp Delta now. Anyway, Ground Zeroes takes place in a fictionalized version of this camp from the 1970's (the sad truth is America (and other countries) have had black sites like these for a lot longer than X-Ray). It's got a pretty disturbing story going on.
Oh, right. Yeah, I guess I have heard the "Camp X-Ray" name before, but I only think of it as Guantanamo Bay, as you say. The game is supposed to be quite short, so sure, maybe I'll give it a try eventually.

That said, I got a bunch of stuff today from a couple of places...

Atari 2600
--
California Games - $3, cart only. It's kind of amazing that the 2600 got games in the late '80s, but this is another of them. Winter Games for the 2600 is actually kind of interesting, and hopefully this one is as well. The limited graphics make them different from the other versions of the games, but both look quite nice for 2600 games...

Game Boy
--
Tesserae - $5, cart and manual. This is a tough boardgame-style puzzle game. It's sort of like a more complex version of Solitaire... not the card game, the marble-jumping one. Instead of "just" jumping over balls to eliminate them though, in this game you have to deal with three different types of tiles, with a plus, square, or circle on them. They can combine in multiple ways, and you can only eliminate tiles by jumping over them with a similar tile, or landing on a complimentary one. I am very glad this came with the manual, because otherwise it'd be very hard to figure out how it works! This isn't a kind of game I love, because I'm not great at these games and they get hard fast, but it is interesting enough that I had to get it.

Neo Geo Pocket Color
--
Metal Slug: 2nd Mission - $12, cart in protector case. Metal Slug: First Mission is a great game, and as far as I know this one is more of the same, so I have high hopes for it! They've had this game there for a while now, but I finally decided to get it. This is about what the game is worth, and it already seems to be a pretty good game. I think this game actually was the last game released for the NGPC in the US during the system's original release (that is, not counting the two games first released in the US in the 2003 blister-pack releases selling off left-over stock), because shortly after its May '00 release SNK went under and was bought by Aruze. The NGPC's very early death (less than a year, in the US!) was pretty sad, and there would have been a lot more good games on the system had SNK not had to abandon it early (a new Magician Lord game, for example), but at least we did get this one, and it's great. Like the first one, you have a health bar in this game, and the gameplay is a bit more platformer-styled than in the regular Neo-Geo games. It actually works quite well.

PSP
--
Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony - $3, complete. I don't know if this will be any good or not, but I like this kind of game so I want to try it. The Dungeon Siege series never was great, but it was cheap and I have wanted the game, so I got it. Sure, Dungeon Siege 1 is a game I got back when it came out and was very disappointed by (it's so repetitive!), but Dungeon Siege 3, at least, is good... I'm sure this game isn't going to be nearly that good, but hopefully it's at least an okay action-RPG. The PSP actually has several fun games like this, which is nice; I am of course a huge Gauntlet fan.

Xbox
--
Blitz: The League - $1, complete. I don't like football games, and quite dislike football, but Midway's arcadey ones are fun, I guess.

Xbox 360
--
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) - $7, complete. Yeah, I got this for PC back when it came out, but it doesn't run smoothly no matter what settings I try and the game is pretty good, so I've wanted the 360 version as well. Now I have it. :)
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection - $4, disc in generic case. I'm sure there are some games on this I don't have.
The Crew- $15, complete. I'm not sure why, but I've wanted to play this game ever since it was announced... I don't care for open-world games of course, but since this one is entirely driving-focused it made me more interested than your average open-world third-person shooter.

These last four games are disc only and were free; they normally would be a quite cheap 30 cents, but I got a bunch of other stuff so these were just made free. Yes, that they were free is a definite reason why I got these games I might not have wanted to get for money.

Playstation
--
Tekken 2 - I generally think the Tekken series is kind of bad and by far the worst of the popular fighting game series, but I've never actually played the first two games, as far as I remember... maybe sometime in the arcade, but I don't remember it. This game is probably bad just like all the other Tekken games, but for free I'll try it.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero -- I've never actually played this... of course I'd rather have it for N64, but the N64 version isn't 30 cents to free.
Digimon: Digital Monsters - Rumble Arena -- Digimon Smash Bros. knockoff.

Xbox
--
Forza Motorsport (+ Xbox Live Arcade) - I wonder, will the XBLA part have demos, like that other XBLA disc I have for the original Xbox? Original Xbox XBLA is interesting stuff, it's all entirely offline now so you can't buy the few games released for it unless you pirate them.

Lastly, this game is actually from early last month.

Atari 5200
--
Moon Patrol - cart only. I seem to have forgotten to mention this game. I got it in early September from ebay for $6 including shipping. It's fun stuff and is a good port of Moon Patrol, much more accurate to the arcade game than the 2600 version is.
Sega Master System
--
Great Baseball - Cart and case (no manual) - $3 - This is a fairly basic, early SMS game with that old-fashioned single-screen-field design style -- so the entire field is one zoomed-out view, instead of the zoomed-in view of RBI Baseball and such. I am fine with this.

Sports Pad Football - Cart and case (no manual) - free with other purchases (buy 3 get 1 free). I don't like football at all, of course, but I've had the Sports Pad trackball since I got my Master System but not any of the three sports games that support it, so purely out of interest in seeing whether the thing works better with actual games made for it, I got this. Oh, this is another early release.

California Games - $3, complete. I got the 2600 version of this popular '80s game recently, so why not add one of the better-looking versions as well?

Space Harrier 3D - $20, complete. This is the one US-released SMS 3D Glasses game that I didn't have... until now. I'm sure it will be cool, but not as good as the 3DS Space Harrier 3d-enhanced release. It's still awesome to have, though! Space Harrier, the original arcade game and its good ports (32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, 3DS, etc.), are really amazing, I love the game. Here's hoping the 3d in this one is good, like Zaxxon 3-D and Missile Defense 3-D, and not mediocre like Poseidon Wars 3-D.
Xbox 360 Digital Download - Free from Games with Gold
--
The Walking Dead, Season 1 (episodes 1 to 5, the whole season) - This is the game free for the second half of October, so it runs out after... well, today, now. So yeah, just barely remembered to get it...
Neo Geo Pocket Color
--
Puzzle Link 2 - $6.75, cart in protector case only, from ebay. I decided to get this because I really have wanted some more puzzle games for the NGPC, and this NGPC-exclusive series is a good place to start; other games like another (hopefully better-working) copy of Bust-A-Move, Magical Drop, or such can also be played elsewhere, but not this series. And why not start with the last of the two/three games, when the prices for each are about the same and these aren't exactly games with stories? So yeah, I got it. It's a fun but not amazing puzzle game. It's a bit like Magical Drop, but not quite as good, probably. Still, it's a good game I'm glad to get.
The two FF games I got are cheaper on ebay, but sometimes I can't resist when I see something in person... ah well, sometimes such purchases are good values and other times they aren't. I don't regret getting them, they are things I wanted and I'd rather buy locally than ebay when I can. (This stuff is all from one place.)

Playstation
--
Final Fantasy Anthology - complete, $12 - FF 5 & 6. I have these two for GBA so maybe this wasn't worth it, but I do like 5 so I got it anyway.

Final Fantasy Origins - complete, $9 - FF 1 & 2 - I've never owned any version of either of these games, actually.

Wii
--
Geon Cube - complete, $4. This looks like a fun puzzle-action game, I'll definitely try it.

Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage - complete, $3. The third Shaun White snowboarding game for the Wii; I have the second one, it's good. This one adds Motion+ support, as well as the Balance Board support the second game has.

Nintendo DS
--
Master of Illusion - complete, $3. This is a magic-tricks title Nintendo released as part of the Touch Generations line. It's not really a game, but still is kind of interesting. This copy's outer box is somewhat beat up, but the inner DS case is still sealed, interestingly. The game also comes with a pack of cards that I presume are marked, so as to do card tricks with them. Having Nintendo playing cards is kind of neat. :)

Tom Clancy's EndWar -complete, $4. Fairly good-looking hex-based turn based strategy game. Could be fun.

Game Boy Advance
--
Bomberman Max 2: Red Advance - cart only, $3.50. The red version has you playing as Max, I believe; need to get the Blue version for Bomberman. I've never actually played either of the Bomberman Max games, but I think they are fairly standard Bomberman games with some minor Pokemon collection elements, something some other Bomberman games from the early '00s also have. I like Bomberman, so why not get it?

Game Boy Color (Color Only)
--
NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC - cart only, $2. Basically the last GB or GBC NBA Jam game. NBA Jam TE for the original GB is the first Jam game I owned, and I love the series, so I'm sure I'll like this regardless of how good it is.
Xbox 360- DD - Free from Games with Gold (free game from the first half of the month)
--
DiRT 3 - Not something I'd have bought, but I'll take it for free I guess.

The rest of this is from a Gamestop. Yes, this Gamestop actually had some complete used original DS games. I wasn't expecting to see that, but I got a couple. :)

Xbox 360
--
Test Drive Unlimited - $11.70, complete - I've wanted this for some time, and bought a copy some time back, but unfortunately the disc never worked. This copy does, and the game is good. It definitely looks dated, but this game was also on PS2 and PSP, so that's understandable. Gameplay is fun though.
Alpha Protocol - $2.70, complete - Obsidian's modern spy RPG; yes, I finally got it.

Wii
--
Glacier 2 - $2.70, complete - Probably bad arcadey racing game. I have the PC version of the third game in this low-budget series.
Deadly Creatures - $1.80, complete - Who knows... could be amusing? The game got decent reviews, so it could be good.
Bleach: Shattered Blade - $4.50, complete - Average 3d fighter with lots of motion controls. I have played a bit of this game before.

DS
--
Chaotic: Shadow Warriors - $0.90, complete - might be worth a dollar?
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - $4.49, complete - BioWare's Sonic RPG, this was Bioware's only attempt at a handheld game. It's supposed to be decent...
You like Final Fantasy 5? Yay! That's a good one, and a lot of the modern not-fantasies have been iterating on it's famous job system. I also recommend Final Fantasy: The 4 Warriors of Light and Bravely Default.
Well, I like FF5 more than what I've played of most of the other classic Final Fantasy games, but it's not a series I've ever been a fan of, of course. The only "Final Fantasy" game I've actually beaten is Final Fantasy Adventure. My favorite FF game in the main numbered series is 12, but of the classic ones, yeah, 5 is probably the most fun one based on what I've played. I do think the job system adds a bit more to it than the others have, gameplay and combat-wise.

As for 4 Heroes of Light and Bravely Default, haven't played either of those, but I have thought about getting Bravely Default. Might get it sometime, but I'm playing Etrian Odyssey IV, Fire Emblem: Awakening, AND Zelda ALBW right now... don't really need another 3DS RPG on top of those. :p (And yes, I am playing those games, FE:A particularly. Love the 3DS so far!)
Game Boy / GB Color Dual Mode (black cart)
--
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 3 - $5, cart in plastic case - I have the second game, but not the others in this decent puzzle/platformer series.

Game Boy Advance
--
Konami Krazy Racers - $3, cart only. I have the Japanese version of this (got it locally for a few bucks years back), but it's got more text than you'd think a kart racing game would, so I got this US copy when I saw it cheap today. Good game.

DS
--
Sudokuro - $3, card only. Sudoko and other similar games.

PSP
--
Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII - $3, complete
Wii & Wii U
--
Rodea the Sky Soldier -$56, new. Yes, I bought an actual new game, even though it'll surely be cheap in not too long. Rodea for the Wii had quite the saga before it finally released -- this Yuji Naka (of Sonic fame) game was finished in 2011... but then the publisher decided to do a 3DS version, then a Wii U port of the 3DS version. And just when release of the Wii game seemed hopeless, this year it finally happened. In the US though, it's packed together with the Wii U game, in one case. The Wii game is supposed to be the better of the two, over the 3DS/Wii U game, and it's why I got this. While all first-printing copies of the game include the Wii game along with the Wii U one, if there are future printings they said it probably won't be included then. Still I'm sure the Wii game won't be hard to find, but that is something worth mentioning. Also though, after waiting so long I wanted to play the game, and get the one Wii game this year that is worth getting and isn't a toys-to-life game (though I may get more Wii Skylanders games sometime). I played the first level, and Rodea is fun. It's very much a Yuji Naka game, both in its flying-based gameplay, visual style reminiscent of a Sonic game, or its ... so far very Sonic Adventure-esque storyline, and by that I mean seriously overdramatic... so yeah, it's both good and bad. It's fun to play though, I like it so far for sure. In the Wii game, you control it by pointing at the screen and then hitting a button to fly there. You can then retarget or do an attack while flying. Fun stuff. The 3DS/Wii U game apparently has a more conventional control scheme, and teh game is more adventure-focused instead of the more arcadey score-focused Wii game. Naka only actually worked on the original Wii version.

Wii
--
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - $3, complete - Finally got this, after years of considering it.

PSP
--
Sonic Rivals - complete, $6 - Something I've wanted to try.

Xbox
--
Midtown Madness 3 - $4, complete - I'm not the biggest fan of these point-to-point racing games so I don't know if I'll like this one, but this is supposed to be a good game, so I picked it up.
I recall the AVGN hating the Crazy Castle series, but I myself found it surprisingly addictive. Sure, you're a rabbit that can't jump, and the music never changes, but I enjoyed all 80 or so levels of that game.
The first game originally didn't star Bugs Bunny, that probably explains why he can't jump... they just kept the concept as it was. But yeah, they are decent enough little games. I don't love them, but 2 and 3, the two I have now, are decent puzzle-platformers fun to play once in a while.

So, I found a few pretty interesting games today and got them. All three games are cart only.

Atari 2600
--
Reactor - $8 - Interesting and somewhat well-thought-of game.

Atari 7800
--
Dark Chambers - $15 - This has been my most wanted 7800 game pretty much since I got the system, so it was awesome to find! Dark Chambers is a decent Gauntlet-style game based on Dandy, the game that inspired Gauntlet. So yeah, it's sort of a remake of Gauntlet's predecessor. This game isn't as good as the NES Gauntlet games, but for a Gauntlet fan like me it's a must have! The game is decent, too.

Ballblazer- $8 - Fun 3d-style future-sports game that was on a bunch of platforms. This is a nice-looking game and is one of only two 7800 games with the expansion audio chip for better sound (the other one is Commando).
Xbox
--
Need for Speed: Most Wanted - $3, complete. I'd rather have this for GC or X360, but this price was too low to refuse! This is one of the "tuner" NFS games, so I expect I'll dislike the theme, but like the fun arcadey racing.

Playstation
--
Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase - $1, complete. This isn't supposed to be good, but I like Scooby-Doo so I want it anyway, for this price (wouldn't get it for much more). :)

Also, for $16, I got something interesting, but that doesn't work until I get something I don't have yet -- a Nokia N-Gage. It's the original model, in the original box, with the system, wall charger, ad flyer, quickstart guide, three complete games (Sonic N, Super Monkey Ball, and Tomb Raider) and one card-only game (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater). The problem is, N-Gage systems only turn on with a SIM card in the system; it doesn't need to be activated, it just needs to have one there, dummy or real. This doesn't. So, now I'll need fo find some cheap compatible sim card online, presumably a T-Mobile one since that's the logo on the box. You can get non-activated sim cards for a couple bucks, but I don't want to get one that won't work with this thing, so I'm not sure which to get. Then I'll have to get a few more games (some of the strategy games, most notably), but not many; there are only ~60 N-Gage games, and many of the later ones are rare and pricey unless you just get a memory card and pirate them. You can also play Symbian mobile games if you get a memory card; that might be interesting, since some are downloadable online, but it takes MMC cards, not SD, so I'd need one of those too. We'll see. I'll probably get the thing working, but doubt I'll buy much at all for it for quite some time. I just got it because it was a good deal for an interesting gaming thing; this would cost way more than this online! The N-Gage was a huge failure back in 2003-2005, but it has a few interesting games, such as Pathways to Glory, System Rush, and Rifts, that I want to check out.
It doesn't explain the lack of jumping as well as you might think. The original version starred Roger Rabbit.
Good point then. He should be able to jump too. :p
Yep, my point exactly.
A place around here dropped GBA prices from $7 a game to $3 a game, so I got some. I wouldn't have gotten any of these for $7 each.

Game Boy Advance - all games are cart only.
--
Hot Wheels: Burnin' Rubber - $3. This is another mode 7-style Hot Wheels game; one of the two other GBA Hot Wheels games is similar, though this has better presentation -- it has an eeprom save chip in the cart, instead of stupid passwords like the other two GBA Hot Wheels games I have require! The game seems fun too.

Frogger's Adventures 2 - $1.50 (half off) - The first one is decently fun, so why not get the sequel?

Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon - $3 - A not-so-great vehicular action game. It's part boring rail shooter, part terrible-framerate driving game, and more! Joy! I mostly got this because it's Star Wars, and because I do want to try the GBA's rail shooters even if they aren't great.

Pinobee: Wings of Adventure - $3 - Fun but simple platformer. You play as a bee and can zip across the screen with a sort of jetpack-like thing. I've considered getting this game various times in different places over the years, but never did until now.

Cruis'n Velocity - $1.50 (half off) - Bad 3d racing game. I got this because it's the only Cruis'n game I don't own, mostly. Playing the game a bit it IS playable, but not very fun. Maybe it gets better as you get used to the poor framerate and iffy controls, though... but it's probably the worst Cruis'n game ever, sadly.

Game & Watch Gallery 4 - $3 - Nice collection of six Game & Watch titles. The only G&W I had as a kid is Octopus (still have it, actually, and it still works fine), so I haven't played these before.

Wii
--
Wii Fit Plus - $2, disc only - I have the balance board but not either Wii Fit title, so I got this to fill in that gap. Doubt I'll use this disc much, though.

I'm also going to get another big expensive box of old games from Japan, because I just can't resist. Will list that stuff later at some point.
You're a historian with a massive collection of video games. I'm sure kids would assume you just have "old people stuff" in your house, but really you've secretly got everything amazing back there. That's strangely hilarious to me.
I'm sure many people have no clue about the size of my collection, sure. It's not something I usually mention in person, I don't wear (or own much) videogame clothing, etc. However, that is one part of why I have the website and write the threads I make -- I am love videogame history and games in general, after all, so the articles, summaries, etc. exist in part to encourage people to play games, particularly older ones. Videogame history is history too, and since I love videogames, I love videogame history. Oh, and probably "I love (gaming company/genre/what have you), so I'll make a list about it!" doesn't make sense to some people, but it does to me. :)

This is from ebay.

Odyssey 2
--
Matchmaker!/Logix!/Buzzword! - complete, $6 including shipping. This game is a 3-in-1 collection of keyboard games, so they use teh O2 keypad on the system instead of controllers. All three are recreations of popular games -- Matchmaker is Concentration; Logix is Mastermind; and Buzzword is Hangman. All three are solid versions of the games in question, and Matchmaker has both 1-player and 2-player modes, where in two player modes the two compete to make more matches. The games has no options at all, so there's only one field size in Matchmaker, random word length in Buzzword, no difficulty settings in Logix, and such, unfortunately, but what's here is pretty good for the early '80s. The visuals are just basic numbers and words on solid-color backgrounds stuff, no graphics at all, but they work for these games.

Also, I'm working on a big post that will list all of the import stuff I never did list here. It's a lot actually -- I just checked the thread, and not even mentioning the new stuff, there was a bunch of stuff I got last year that I never posted about for various reasons. I'll fix that soon.
B2G1 at Gamestop this weekend for Black Friday. I also got some stuff from the 3DS eshop, since there is a sale going on. Nintendo isn't as good at sales as others but this is better than nothing! oh, and I got a couple of things from the Xbox 360 digital-download store as well, also on sale.

Xbox 360
--
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - $17.09
Record of Agarest War Zero - $6.19
And a game I'll be giving as a gift, as the third pricier game.

DS
--
River City Soccer Hooligans - $2.69, card only
Tenchu: Dark Secret - free in a B2G1, would have been $1.79, card only - The topdown Tenchu game for DS. It's supposed to be not that good, but I have almost all of the other US-released Tenchu games, so why not try it and see if I like it? Maybe I will...

3DS
--
Project X Zone - free in a B2G1 (would have been $13.49), complete - Namco crossover strategy game. It' ssupposed to be decent, and did well enough that I think a sequel is coming.

3DS eshop - Digital Download (note that this sale runs until Dec. 2)
--
Boxboy! - $3.50. Pretty fun-looking black and white puzzle-platformer from Hal. I've wanted to play this one, so it's nice to get it discounted. :)

Crashmo - $5. I'd rather play the first game, Pushmo, first, but this one is on sale and not that, so I got this. I've played the demo of Pushmo, it seems like a fun platformer-style puzzle game. I don't know how hard these games get, but they definitely seem good. Straightforward but good.

3D Outrun - $4.50 - A very good version of one of the '80s best racing games! And in 3D! There's the Master System 3D glasses version too, for 3d Outrun, but that was only released in Europe so it's not easy to find over here, and I don't have it... and this obviously runs far better, with a much higher framerate, much better graphics, 3d. SMS 3d is very cool and the effect looks great, but Space Harrier and Outrun show the hardwares' limitations.

Azure Striker Gunvolt - $7.50 - Inti Creates' slightly megaman-ish platform-action game. The demo was decent enough to convince me to get the game for half off.

Xbox 360 Digital Download
--
Geometry Wars 2 - $5 - The X360-exclusive one!
Geometry Wars 3 - $5 - Cheap for such a new game... and I love the first game, so I've really wanted to play the sequels.
Game Boy
--
Go! Go! Tank - $3, cart only. This is, naturally, a puzzley side-scrolling game. You play as a plane and have to pick up blocks to make the terrain navigable for a tank travelling along the bottom. Simple stuff, but interesting. It gets challenging fast. So yeah, it's not what I expected, but it was definitely worth picking up.

Skate or Die: Bad & Rad - $3, cart only. Unlike its namesake, this game is a side-scrolling platform game. You are on rollerblades, but the gameplay is all about jumping, ducking, hitting baddies, etc. I like this a whole lot more than the original Skate or Die, and unlike that game this was worth getting.

NES
--
Spy Hunter - $4, cart only. I have no idea why I didn't get this game years ago, I've always liked it a lot. I mean, I have other versions of Spy Hunter (GC collection, GBC, etc.), but not the NES version, and this version is great... so yeah, I finally picked up a copy.

Game Gear

Ecco: The Tides of Time - $2, cart in plastic protector case. I wonder if the GG Ecco games are any good... haven't played them.

Xbox
--
Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat - $5, complete. This pirate action-adventure game could be fun, or it could just be low-budget mediocrity. Hopefully it's more of the former.

Atari 2600
--
Plaque Attack - $8, cart only. Yeah, this was a bit expensive for an Atari game, but I've wanted this Activision game for some time, but never see it... so since I actually saw a copy, I got it. It's a shooter where you protect teeth from cavity-causing foods. Great concept there. :)

Dreamcast
--
Maken-X - $18, complete. Maybe a bit expensive, but I just couldn't resist this pretty interesting Atlus first-person slasher... it's got body-swapping, as you can take over various characters and then fight as them, and first-person swordfighting action.

PC DD - Steam sale. The Thanksgiving sale ends in 10 hours, so I'm getting a few things.
--
Downwell - $2 - downward-scrolling platform-shooting game that got some pretty good reviews for a mobile port.
Chip's Challenge 1 & 2 Bundle - $2.50 - The classic Chip's Challenge, plus its long-lost-until-recently sequel, for a reasonable price. These are tough puzzle games.
Chuck's Challenge 3D - Game & DLC Bundle - $1.74 - The modern sequel to Chip's Challenge, with 3d graphics and everything.
DS
--
Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia - card only, $10. The first game was surprisingly fun, so I picked this up since this was cheaper than I usually see the game for. I played a little of it. It seems similar to, but a bit easier than, the first game -- you now can have your line broken and the Pokemons don't have their capture bar reset until a couple of seconds later, so you have time for another try to continue the capture. That should reduce the challenge of fights quite a bit, unless the game does something else to make it harder. Still it's mostly more of the same. This isn't from the same team as the first game, so that makes sense; it's just another team making something a lot like the first game. THere is also a third game, also on the DS. I might get it sometime.
PC
--
Far Cry 2 - $2, complete (DVD case ver.) - Cheap...
Chuzzle - $1 , complete (jewelcase in cardboard sleeve) - Match-3 puzzler.
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare - $2, jewelcase only
Lords of Everquest - $5, complete (small cardboard box, w/poster) - This is an RTS. Not expecting much, but I like the genre, so... why not?
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed - $5, jewelcase only - This is a pretty good classic NFS game from 2000. I liked the demo back then and the previous few games, but didn't get this one then. It's nice to finally have it.
Dream Pinball 3D - $2, complete (DVD case)

Playstation (1)
--
The Divide: Enemies Within - $15, complete - Pretty decent price for this somewhat uncommon and interesting action-adventure game!

Xbox 360 Digital Download - Games with Gold - for the first half of December
--
CastleStorm
Genesis
--
X-Men - $5, cart only - This is supposed to be an average platform-action game, but it was somewhat popular. It often goes for more than this.
Robocop vs. the Terminator - $20, complete - Actually a decent price for this okay run & gun platform-shooting game. This is one of those games where the SNES and Genesis games have the same name, but are entirely different games. The SNES box has this bumpy plastic cover that goes over it in a complete copy, but this Genesis version's just a regular case. I think the Genesis game is supposed to be better, or more violent anyway; this one has blood and that one doesn't, which is all any kid in the early '90s needed to hear. :p

Wii
--
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - $26, complete - Yes, I didn't have this, for whatever reason...
Endless Ocean: Blue World - $9, complete - The second (and final?) game in this ocean-exploration series.
X-Men Destiny - free in a buy 2 get 1 (with these other 2 Wii games), would have been $9, complete - Why did I get this surely bad game? To see Silicon Knights' descent in person, I guess... their collapse between Eternal Darkness to this game was pretty sad... though Dyack's dumb comments make them a little harder to feel sorry for. I still love ED, though, despite all that!
Genesis
--
The Lawnmower Man - $5.25 , cart only - Decent run & gun / first-person dodge-the-obstacles (with occasional target-shooting-style gun sections) game. The run & gun side I'd remembered, but I'd forgotten that this game has software-scaler first-person levels in it too! The resolution in the scaler stages is really low, but it's still quite impressive for the Genesis. They run fast and much more smoothly than you'd think for the system. There are even some scaling enemies in the regular game. This might be a better tech-demo than game, but the game is decent too, which is nice.

Atari 5200
--
Frogger - $5, cart only - Decent port of Frogger to the 5200. The controls are odd -- instead of moving the stick to move, you hit the lower button to move forwards. You can move sideways or backwards by holding the stick in that direction and then hitting the button. These controls work, and I imagine they did this to avoid the problem of the 5200 stick's slow reaction time, but it does take getting used to versus regular Frogger controls.

PC DD - Humble Bundle - This ends in like 10 hours, but I got the Humble Total War Bundle Redux. I paid $15 to get all the games.
--
Shogun Total War Collection - updated re-release of the original classic! The first two games don't run well on modern graphics cards, so while I have this on disc (got it new back in '99), this is very nice to have; on this PC the actual game only runs in ugly software rendering. Plus I never did get the expansion, as much as I liked the original... this includes it.

Medieval: Total War Collection - As above, this is a working copy of this game. Sure, my disc copy is usable on my old computer, but it won't run at all on the new one. And as with the first game, I got and liked this game quite a bit back when it came out in '02, but never did get the expansion, until now.

Rome II: Total War w/ some DLC -- Not sure if my computer can handle this newer one, but it's nice to have regardless!

Also copies of Empire, Napoleon, and Shogun 2, but I have those already, with all the DLC included here. The Empire key is tied to Medieval 1 so I actiated that one for Medieval, but those other two I'll save and maybe gift to someone, I already have those in Steam.

The bundle also came with a 1 month subscription to the paid tier in the Total War freemium online action game Total War: Arena, whatever that is (not sure if I care...), and some ingame currency for the (mobile?) game Total War Battles: Kingdom. I don't care about these much, they aren't what I got this for.
Xbox 360 Digital Download - free from Games with Gold
--
Sacred 3 - Decent-sounding top-view action-RPG. Series fans dislike this because it's much simpler than the more open-world first two games, but I don't mind this style, so I want to play it... nice to get it free!

Nokia N-Gage: I didn't get more games, yet, but for $3.50 I got a non-activated T-Mobile sim card. This allows me to finally actually use the the system and the four games I have. This system probably isn't great, and I don't have the games I'm more interested in (Pathway to Glory, High Seize, Pocket Kingdoms, Rifts...), but still, it'll be neat to mess around with. :) (The four games I have are the ones listed above that I got with the system -- Sonic N, Super Monkey Ball, Tomb Raider, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.)
Game Boy
--
Q Billion - cart only, $3. This is a tricky but interesting puzzle game. You've got to push blocks in order to make all blocks only one block high. Some stages are easy, others hard...

Game Boy Color (GBC Only)
--
Army Men - cart only, $3. Impressively, this game is actually a conversion of the first PC Army Men game! I was hoping that's what it would be, and it is. That's pretty cool, and makes this ambitious for a GBC game. It is scaled down from the PC of course, but works better than you might think. The first Army Men (PC, 1997) is fun stuff, but it isn't too complex, and this version plays well. It's too slow-paced (you move so slowly...) and really is only average as a game, but it's alright and was worth getting.
These were Christmas gifts from one of my younger cousins. None of the rest of the stuff I got for Christmas is videogames-related, though I did get some money I'll probably mostly spend on games. I'd like to get another 3DS game for one thing... probably Smash or Puzzles & Dragons.

Xbox 360
--
Sega Rally Revo - complete. I have this for PC, but not 360, and the PC port is not great so this is nice to have. The game is alright, but Sega has never managed to recapture the magic of the original Sega Rally...

Tomb Raider - disc in case (no manual). Another game I have for PC but not consoles. It's always nice to have something for another format, so I don't mind having this. :) The games' supposed to be good too, though I haven't played it yet.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z - complete (and new?). I've got the other two 360 Ninja Gaiden games but not this one, so this is nice to have, I guess, even if it's not that good (I seem to recall reviews weren't great?). It came with some extras -- a little comic book, a DLC code for two costumes for DOA5 (I redeemed it, the first DLC costumes I have for the game...), and a soundtrack CD, in addition to the game.
Got most of this with some Christmas money.

3DS
--
Etrian Mystery Dungeon - $27, complete - I know I was thinking of some other 3DS games, but I've kind of wanted to get this one too, and I couldn't refuse this complete copy for a reasonable price. I'll still get those other games eventually (Puzzles & Dragons probably sooner...), but I did want this as well. It comes with a soundtrack disc and little artbook, too, in the outer cardboard box.

PS1
--
Inspector Gadget: Gadget's Crazy Maze - $5, complete - An obscure (I didn't remember that this exists...) sort of Pac-Man-ish Inspector Gadget game? Yes, I'll get that.

PC
--
Bumper Wars - $5, jewelcase only - Futuristic car racing or car combat game, I'm not sure which. It's a futuristic car game on the PC, and I've never heard of it! Yeah, this was a very interesting find regardless of its quality, and I had to get it.

Wii
--
Escape from Bug Island - $1.80, complete - super-cheesy third-person action horror game.

Xbox 360
--
Record of Agarest War - $9, complete - The first one. Probably bad games (not a good developer...), and the series is pretty dumb thematically (bad-anime...), but... I got the other one, so I need this too.
Ridge Racer 6 - $6.80, complete
Deadly Premonition - complete, free in a B2G1 (would have been $6.80) - I'm not so sure I'll like this, but it is well-regarded and might be interesting, so I'll give it a try...

DS
--
TrackMania DS - card only, free in a B2G1 (would have been $1.80) - I have the second DS one, but not this one. Great series of course!
Jewel Master: Egypt - $2.70, card only

Also I got two PS2 memory cards for $5. Often they're $5 for one PS2 card, so this was a nice price.
I got some stuff from the Steam winter sale. I'll probably get a few more later.

PC DD - Steam (sale)
--
Deltazeal - $8.39 - not listed on ign
XIIZeal - $6 - Two good shmups. I think this is pronounced "twelvezeal". - not listed on ign
Apotheon - $6 (pc/mac/linux) - platform/action
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 - $6 - probably mediocre JRPG
Deponia: The Complete Journey - $6 (pc/mac/linux) - Modern adventure game trilogy.
Toybox Turbos - $3.74 - Micro Machines in all but name! Really happy they made this.
Yar's Revenge - $2.50 - Rail shooter re-imagining of an Atari classic. Mediocre reviews, but I want to try it; I do like the genre.
And here's the rest of the stuff for this Steam sale. Since the daily sales are gone you don't need to spread out purchases over the sale. It's probably less interesting this way, I wonder why they changed it...

Anyway, the big one this time is Rocket League, one of 2015's best games by many accounts. The rest are mostly puzzle games and 2d/2.5d platformers.

PC DD - Steam sale
--
Fractal: Make Blooms Not War - $1.04 (pc/mac) - puzzle game
Bleed - $0.99 (pc/mac/linux) - platform/action
You Must Build A Boat - $2.49 (pc/mac/linux) - puzzle game - not listed on ign (listed for ios only)
Super Splatters - $1.49 (pc/mac/linux) - puzzle game (lemmings-style) - not listed on ign
Oniken - $0.49 (pc/mac) - NES-ish platformer
Aaru's Awakening - $1.49 (pc/mac/linux) - platformer
Ichi - $0.49 (pc/mac/linux) - puzzle
Blade Kitten: Hollow Wish Collection - $3.49 - 2.5d platformer, I have the first half of this already (but not on Steam) but not the new second half, which requires a Steam copy of the first half to play. So I had to get both in this bundle; fortunately it's cheap. - Part two is not listed on ign
GemCraft - Chasing Shadows - $1.99 - tower defense strategy game
Tembo The Badass Elephant - $3.74 - platformer from Game Freak
Rocket League - Deluxe Edition - $16.79 - very highly reviewed racing/soccer game released last year
Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming - $2 - sequel to the amusing first one.
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2 Sisters Generation - $9 - Why not... tried the first one, it's a bit overly referential but decent.
Got the Humble Square Enix Bundle 3 at the $1 tier. I considered higher ones, but just don't want the higher-tier stuff enough to pay the $9 it'd cost for everything.

PC DD - Humble Square-Enix Bundle 3 ($1 tier)
--
Tomb Raiders I, II, and III
Life is Strange Episode 1 - the premiere title of this batch
Murdered: Soul Suspect
(and a copy of The Last Remnant, a game I have already)
N-Gage
--
Pathway to Glory - $7.50, complete, from ebay - Strategy game; this is one of the better cheap-ish N-Gage game, going by reviews. I wanted to have at least one of the system's strategy games, if I have this thing...
You bought a N-Gage? On purpose?
It was under $20 with the box, charger, a little case for it, and four games, three complete. So yeah, it was quite cheap. This is the only game other than those four I've bought, and with how not-good this system is I doubt I'll be getting many more soon.
Been looking recently, but haven't seen anything that really grabs me. So, I got a cheap GBA game. There are probably HUNDREDS of mediocre licensed GBA and DS platformers (and other games) out there, of which I have very few. I'm not sure if I want many of them or not, probably not, but Star Wars games... eh, I guess.

Game Boy Advance
--
Star Wars Trilogy: Apprentice of the Force - cart only, $3. This is an average platform-action game. You play as Luke Skywalker. It's no Super Star Wars, but you can do a lot worse...
3DS eshop
--
Gunman Clive 2 - $2, on sale. The first Gunman Clive is a good (not great, but good) platform-action game in the Mega Man vein; I have it for PC. I've wanted to play the sequel, but sadly it didn't get a PC release for some dumb reason, only 3DS. But now that I have a 3DS and it was on sale, I picked it up! I hope it'll be as good or better than the first one.

Xbox 360 digital download - free from Games with Gold
--
DiRT Showdown - First half of January game.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Second half of January game. I have this for PC and probably won't play it on 360, but if they're offering games with the subscription I probably should take them as long as I'm paying for it!
N64
--
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes - $6, cart only - average third-person shooter. I like the topdown (PC/GBC) and helicopter Army Men games, but never really have tried the shooters, they're the weaker games in the franchise I think... but this one's supposed to be at least okay, and it's on the N64, so I'll give it a try. :)

Also, the guy gave me a semifunctional Atari 5200 controller and also a not-really-working Atari 2600/8-bit trackball both for free, because they had no real use for them and he knew I well might. I tried out the 5200 controller. It's got a totally broken and missing rubber ring that holds the stick in place, no Start/Pause/Reset buttons or button holder, and the side triggers don't work at all... but the stick does work. It doesn't respond as well as it should, and the left direction particularly often doesn't respond well, but the stick is at least better than that other broken 5200 controller I have, so that's something. I'll take it apart eventually and try to see if I can use some of the parts from that other broken controller to make this work better -- rubber ring, maybe the flex circuit though that one is also bad (on that one the Start/Pause/Reset part is busted, but at least the side buttons work). I'll try adjusting those trim pots too. So yeah, my quest for a second working 5200 controller continues, but this is nice to have and might help with that. Either way, it was free! Oh, and it came with an overlay for 5200 Frogger taped to the controller, so I have that now too. Nice.

As for the trackball, haven't tried it yet.
Got a bunch of stuff for the first time this year. A couple of these are from a Gamestop, but most are from a local place.

Nintendo 3DS
--
Puzzles & Dragons Z & Puzzles & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition - $30, new. This is a puzzle game that is supposed to be pretty good and quite content-rich. I've wanted the game for some time, so I'm happy to finally have gotten it!

Samurai Warriors Chronicles - $5, card only

Nintendo DS
--
Lost Magic - $4, cart only
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future - $9, card only - It was great to find this reasonably-priced copy of the third Layton game! I've been wanting it.

Xbox
--
Scaler - $2, complete - 3d platformer, this is multiplatform so the GC version would be nice, but this was quite cheap and probably has better graphics.
Tork: Prehistoric Punk - $5, complete - another 3d platformer, this one Xbox exclusive for some reason.

Xbox 360
--
Full Auto - $5, complete - The first game in this action-racing series. This one is 360 only, while the sequel is PS3/PSP only for some odd reason. I got the PSP version of the sequel last year, it's fun.

Zone of the Enders HD Collection - $9, complete - Probably better than the PS2 versions of these games that I never did get, but have wanted to try...

Sega CD
--
NHL '94 - $5, complete - the SCD version of one of the best hockey games ever. I don't seem to have this on cart, so why not get it for CD?

Saturn
--
Area 51 - $5, disc and manual (no case) - The mediocre Saturn port of this classic arcade light gun game. It's worse than the PS1 port (iffy framerate AND the game runs windowed!), but it is lightgun-compatible and I have the Saturn light gun and it's great, so I should have this; there aren't many Saturn light-gun games.
I actually got this with the above, but forgot to list it.

Game Boy
--
Faceball 2000 - $5, cart only. I have this for SNES (and Game Gear), but this GB version got the best reviews so I want to have it too. Well, the framerate is terrible, but at least the play window is larger than it is on GG, which is nice. It's also interesting to see the one attempt at a FPS on the Game Boy.
Atari 2600
--
G.I. Joe: Cobra Strike - $6, cart only - Decent paddle-controller game.

GBA
--
Lego Island 2 - $2, cart only

DS
--
Brain Age 2 - $2, card only
SNES
--
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse - $10, cart only - Decent to good action-platformer from Capcom.

Playstation
--
Jackie Chan Stuntmaster - $15, complete - This game is uncommon, but solid stuff, and this is a good price for it. It's an isometric (but polygonal) beat 'em up.
Xbox 360
--
MX vs. ATV Untamed - $1, disc only

DS
--
America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking - $2, card and manual
PC DD
--
Humble Bundle: Humble Ubisoft Bundle - backed at $1 tier, contains:

Grow Home - A game I very much have wanted to play!
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - Old West FPS.
(And a copy of Rayman Origins for Uplay. I have it already on Steam so I don't really need this.)

I was thinking about higher tiers, and may upgrade if some more good beat-the-average games are added, but the two $15-tier games (AC Rogue and The Crew) both require 64-bit, unfortunately, so no point in getting that one.
--
Steam sale (for Lunar New Year)
--
Velocity Ultra - $2 - shmup-ish
1001 Spikes - $3 - hard platformer
Lichdom: Battlemage - $4 - FPS where you are a mage.
Xbox 360
--
Borderlands 2 - disc only, $2 - I actually got this maybe a week ago, but didn't mention it because I wasn't sure if I'd keep this or not. Well, after playing it for a few hours, the controls are annoying (dual-analog for shooters is awkward!), but the game is fun enough to keep so I'll list it. The PC version probably would be better, but it'd cost at least $5... this is cheaper. And I have this, and don't really want to buy the game again, it's not THAT good.

Xbox 360 Digital Download- free from Games with Gold
--
Sacred Citadel - The free game for the first half of February. This is an isometric beat 'em up with some light RPG elements. It's fun but repetitive, as usual for the genre. I didn't know about this game, so it's cool to get it 'free'; it is fun. :)
N64
--
Paperboy - $8 - Midway's one attempt to bring back Paperboy was this. I never liked the original Paperboy much, which is why I didn't get this new one until now, but... I should have it, it looks average anyway and I do want to have all the non-sports N64 games. Maybe it won't be as hard as the original Paperboy? That would be nice.

Nagano Winter Olympics '98 - $5, cart only - button-mashing sports game in the Track & Field tradition, but with skiing and stuff too. This game got pretty bad reviews, but I've never played it before so we'll see!

GBA
--
Star Wars: The New Droid Army - $3, cart only - Mediocre isometric action game.
Game Gear
--
Aerial Assault - $5, cart only - mediocre shmup. I got it because the GG has few shmups, and even fewer which released here, and I like the genre. It's kind of boring, but oh well.

Playstation
--
Hardball '99 - $5, complete - Got because I love the older Hardball games. This isn't nearly Hardball III's quality, but still... I want to try it.

PC
--
Merit's Galactic Reunion - jewelcase only, $5 - Early '90s strategy game I've never heard of. I think it's really just called Reunion; Merit is the publisher.
Gogii's Diamond Edition 4 Pack - $5, complete (jewelcase in paper sleeve) - Four adventure games on one disc. I presume they're all basic hidden-object style stuff. The four are Princess Isabella II, Empress of the Deep II, The Clumbsys II, and Voodoo Whisperer.
Rune - $2, jewelcase only - Popular third-person action game from the early '00s.
Call of Juarez: Bound by Blood - $2, complete (DVD case) - Late-'00s Wild West FPS. I think it's supposed to be okay, and might be fun.
Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver 2: Get'n Dirty - $5, jewelcase only - These early '00s Hot Wheels racing games are surprisingly decent. It's too bad Matchbox cars got so few games in comparison, I liked those more as a kid. (Yes, now both are owned by the same company, but that did not used to be true.)
Time Commando - $2, jewelcase only - Beat 'em up-ish game from the '90s with lots of CG-rendered elements, early use of polygon models, etc. I expect this to be bad, but hopefully it's at least amusingly bad...
