Seriously, you guys. Sony and Ms agent going to make a new system anytime soon as they haven't even recovered from their last release. Their future lies in peripherals and if this thing can do 1080p with full inclusion (complete immersion, no virtual screen) it will be the must have PS3 gadget and give WiiHD some competition.
Yeah, that's not going to be a major console, I agree. An accessory to work with Sony systems, though, maybe...

As for that Glasstron thing, I don't remember it, but there have been various kinds of 3d glasses systems for computers and stuff since the '90s, that's true.
Jesus Christ people. It's a 720p 3-D true stereoscopic headset with a viewing angle of almost full immersion. That glasstron device is just a virtual monitor for pc, no 3-D and no ability to display 720p from devices other than pc. I'll read it again just to make sure, but this new headset is leaps and bounds over the link provided.
Yeah, no 3-D, best res is 800x600 through svga. Come on guys!
Yeah here's the deal. Resolution isn't what killed these head sets. I don't remember anyone sticking one of these on their heads way back when and saying "yeah well the resolution sucks". Generally they wore it, were amazed at the 3D and how it responded to head movement, and then quickly realized it made them look stupid and hurt their necks. (The first is more important to a lot of people.) Worse, it completely cuts you off from the outside world. Total immersion in a fictional world is a dream that most people seem to want to stay a dream. There's no way to share the experience with others, or even notice that, say, someone else is in the room with you. That's scary bra!

3D is now moving towards screens people can show to other people. The 3DS is crazy popular, in spite of it's cost and poor battery life. The Virtual Boy cost roughly the same price with roughly the same battery life, but it was ignored as stupid and gimicky.

This was not intended as a factual statement.
The glassman headset is not 3D. I will scream now.

Don't say bra, its brah. Bra is a womany thing.
The article says it's 3D though. Isn't that what we were talking about?

I'm actually intentionally spelling it that way to call attention to how stupid that slang is, bra.
Haha what's wrong with brah? XD

Yes the one I linked to is 3D, the one on wiki is not. That was my point.
It sounds like underwear, as you pointed out already.
You've missed the point behind my link. Sony's tried this kind of thing before and it failed. It didn't fail because it didn't have stereoscopic 3D and 720p display, it's because it's a dumb oversized headset that completely removes any and all social aspects of watching movies or playing games, and even if you're alone it can't be comfortable for long periods of time. Give me a big screen over some dumb glasses any day. For that matter give me a gamepad instead of making me flail my arms around knocking over lamps. And get off my lawn, you damn kids!!!

People with lots of money (and it will cost lots of money) who want to feel like Geordi LaForge might buy one, but that's about it.
It's bulky yeah, a sunglasses-appearance would be better yeah. But HD3D with full immersion and headtracking for first person shooters with a realistic consumer budget of say, 300 sold as a peripheral for the PS3 is a good thing. It would make the illusion possible of the PS3 having games.
I just don't see it doing any better now than it ever did. After all, that's a LOT of inconvenience just for head tracking. When that route finally comes along, it'll need to be total, lawnmower man style. Even then, I think it's more likely we'll stick with screens right up until neural interfaces come along.
