Wow that release snuck up on me. So yeah, it's out now, and apparently if you preordered this game you got a costume, but you didn't, so you never EVER can have it! NEVER!

Yeah, I still think that preorder bonus nonsense is stupid.

Anyway, I've only just started playing it but it's interesting so far. It improves on the story mode by having a world map to allow exploration. Characters have been balanced a little better. Speaking of, all the previous characters are back and there's a handful of extra characters, including Lightning from 13 (whatever you may think of that game) and Yuna from 10 (that's a hard 10, not 10-2, which is a relief).

One nice bonus is that you can import your previous Dissidia file into the game, including levels, abilities, and a large amount of bonuses like music and costumes. That's nice, since that means I only need to level up the new characters instead of starting completely from scratch. However, one thing that's not imported is equipment, so get ready to create all that all over again.
No, no, it's Final Fantasy Dissidia [012] Duodecim. Even more ridiculous, what does that number in brackets in the middle refer to anyway? What's with Square sometimes and their weird titles...

Quote:(that's a hard 10, not 10-2, which is a relief).
10-2's not really a bad game... um, by Final Fantasy standards that is...
Actually it's Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy. The Final Fantasy comes after the subtitle. Also, Duodecim is latin for 12, so you don't need to say the 012 part.

I don't know what the deal is lately with bizarre subtitles. I prefer something that I can actually understand beforehand without the need for translation. Might as well make Final Fantasy into Latin while they're at it.

Here's what the 012 refers to. The story of Dissidia is that an inventor from one world was tasked with making the ultimate weapon, and so he did it the lazy smart way and used an evolutionary algorithm. He created a pocket dimension and took warriors from other realms and trapped them in it. He also created two "gods" of this realm, Cosmos and Chaos, and they each picked warriors to fight for them from them. The two sides are forced to fight until one side remains, at which point the world is "reset" by another powerful entity (Shinryu) and the whole thing starts over again. Everyone's memories are wiped, except for one, the one that is intended to become stronger with each adulteration. This is intended to continue cycle after cycle until that single entity becomes the ultimate weapon. 012 refers to the 12th cycle, the setting for this game. (The previous game takes place during the 13th cycle, making this a prequel).

Speaking of weird names with barely an explanation, Kingdom Hearts 358/2. That's pronounced "358 over 2" not "358 divided by 2". I've figured out the meaning behind it. The 358 part refers to the fact the story takes place over 358 days, the time Roxas was in the Organization. The "over 2" part refers to the fact this time is shared between Roxas and another important character.
No, you need both the [012] and Duodecim, if that only means twelve, it doesn't express the whole picture of the subtitle, which isn't just "12" but "[012]", with a 0 and brackets. You know, just to make it look weirder or something. Yeah, I don't know what Square is doing these days... even if they come up with reasons, what's the reason for all of these really odd subtiles?
