It's been all over the news, and yet somehow our resident Japan-a-holics aren't talking about it.

It is pretty bad. It could have been much worse though, but it is still bad.

Right now, the big concern is one of the nuclear power plants where numerous redundancies have failed, save for one.
When I saw the "Japan's Latest" thread, I thought it was about this.
It's a really bad situation. Hopefully they can get everything under control and help everybody in the affected area.
There was an explosion at one of the nuclear power plants last night. So far it seems this explosion didn't damage the fuel rods. It's bad, but it isn't a disaster at least.

It starts. All over Twitter there are twits going on about how this is some sort of cosmic revenge for Pearl Harbor. Two things there. Fire bombing culminating in two nuclear city explosions isn't enough revenge? Secondly, do they really think the majority of the population, who wasn't even alive during WW2, should be held responsible for anything during that war in any way? Do people really believe that crimes are "generation" and that someone can inherit the guilt of their parents? How about being a human being here?
I'm now hearing that after shocks are hitting Japan, and strong ones, registering 7 on the richter scale all by themselves. I'm also hearing conflicting reports of the situation at that one nuclear plant. I think it's best to get ahold of some sort of expert to sort through all that at this point.
The real scary thing is that nuclear plant apparently on the edge of meltdown, that could be very bad...

Also, with what we've heard, the death toll could be pretty high -- many thousands, quite possibly, more because of the tsunami than the earthquake. Yeah, it's really bad.
Its more then one nuclear power plant at risk, They need electricity for the electric pumps to keep the rods cool.

What's even more fucked up is that a Volcano just erupted in the south of Japan.
It's looking more like the death toll will be tens of thousands. A lot of coastal towns in the area near the quake were just completely destroyed... horrible pictures.
The volcano isn't a surprise, since they are caused by the same things that cause earthquakes, and this was a big one.

Yeah the death toll from what I'm seeing right now is in the thousands.
