This is the first time I've watched HSR. Is it supposed to be a string of non-sequiturs set to animation, or is something wrong with my browser?

The jokes are funnier if you already know the show/characters. I could see it being confusing and annoying if it's the first time you've seen it.

Start with the e-mails. Specifically, look up "cool guy" where Senor Cardgage is introduced.

If you don't know who any of these weird animal people are, I bet it's probably not that funny.
