How about that...

I honestly don't see what the big deal about the first one is. It was a fun little movie, and the special effects were good, but honestly it was basically one big overbearing environmental message rivaling Ferngully in it's inanity, and that's coming from someone who actually cares about the environment.
-3D
-Awesome CG in 3D
-Cool battles and stuff

I think that sums up a lot of the attraction... because yes the story wasn't much, for sure. So yeah, if the next one's going to take four years to make, it'll need more than just that to be successful...
How about some Battle Angel instead, Jim?
What's a battle angel?
One can assume, an angel who engages in some form of combat.

He's talked almost as long about doing this as he has Avatar.
Huh, interesting picture but there's not much to go on from it alone. I guess it's not really an angel so much as a robot with wings.
Quote:Battle Angel Alita, known in Japan as Gunnm (銃夢 Ganmu?, a portmanteau of "Gun" and "Dream"),[citation needed] is a manga series created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990 and originally published in Shueisha's Business Jump magazine. Two of the nine-volume comics were adapted into two anime original video animation episodes titled Battle Angel for North American release by ADV Films and the UK and Australian release by Manga Entertainment. Manga Entertainment also dubbed Battle Angel Alita into English.

The series is set in the future and focuses on Alita, a cyborg who has lost all memories and is found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her. She discovers that there is one thing she remembers, the legendary cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst, which leads to her becoming a Hunter Warrior or bounty hunter. The story traces Alita's attempts to rediscover her past and the characters whose lives she impacts on her journey. The manga series is continued in Battle Angel Alita: Last Order.
I've seen the two episode Battle Angel OVA from the early '90s, it was alright...
I'd much rather have that than two more blue guys running around in the jungle movies.
Meh, Avatar was fun. Generic plot, but the great CG and 3d effects were cool.

I mean sure, Battle Angel would probably have a more interesting story, but it's not like Avatar was bad or something...
No, I enjoyed it, but not as much as I would enjoy a Battle Angel movie.
I've always found the concept of robot genders really confusing, and more or less pointless.

People like to give human qualities to things, that includes robots.
