I can't imagine how socially awkward you are in real life if this is how you behave. You operate on inside jokes that if a person doesn't get, you pretty much have a WELL THEN [Image: emot-smug.gif] attitude towards the other person.
Not familiar with the term moe since I'm not into anime, somewhat familiar with the word weeaboo, the Happy Birthday thing is not common knowledge, and I do know of Pedobear and Trololo.

Your move!

You see, this is what I'm talking about. Your common knowledge is decidedly uncommon.

So... pedo bear is a pedophile bear, not a bear with one foot? That's.... pretty sick dude.
If it helps, DJ, Pedobear started in 4chan, the murky underbelly of the Internet, so we're lucky something that tame is what took hold.

It's like DJ said in the last thread, memes don't necessarily cover the entire Internet. I mean, even among us, for instance. Everyone here knows this picture very well:

Sure, many might recognize the man, some even the specifics, but posting it elsewhere wouldn't have the same impact as it does here, because we made our own meme out of it.

I'm also heavily involved in Team Fortress 2 community. I wouldn't blindly expect you guys to know about Spycrabs, Towering Pillars of Hats, or Saxton Hale because, though highly known in that "culture", it is meaningless elsewhere.
This thread exists to spread enlightenment.
Is that what you call it?

4chan? Eh, if it's as bad as you say, I don't need that in my net life. I'm sure I can live without one specific message board's memes.
I might have to side with GR if you're not familiar with 4chan...
Too late, EdenMaster, you already backed the wrong pony. The spoils of this contest will be mine! Cool
I maintain what started this debate is an invalid argument, that certain things are "general knowledge". Terms like moe and weeabo are important to amine culture, not Internet culture. 4chan and it's memes are pertinent to overall Internet culture. Someone can very much be a part of Internet culture, yet be separate from anime culture, and therefore their confusion is warranted.
You guys is just uncultured.
I had to have someone explain to me what a 'weeaboo' is a few weeks ago, and I still don't know how to pronounce it.
Weeaboo actually originated with Perry Bible Fellowship.
I get ya EM, but honestly I don't even think 4chan is enough to count as "internet culture", I think that's more like a culture that's ON the internet. Heck I still don't know much about it except it's some forum full of depraved people, and I'm getting that from you.

I used to think it was odd to meet someone who hadn't heard of Homestarrunner (though before I'd heard of it, I hadn't heard of it myself, thank you tautology), but now? Well, it's easier to see that, considering they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth for almost a year at this point.

Oh, so it's not actually an anime thing?
I don't remember that strip, post it for us. I've read almost all his stuff, I'm surprised I don't remember it. I thought it was just a silly phrase that sounded vaguely Japanese. :)

Ahahaha, classic. Perfect term to be adopted for a wapanese person. :)
Great Rumbler, what's your handle on SomethingAwful? Mine is Lurk Ethic but I rarely post (in a true tribute to my name :)).

Their cinema forum is awesome, I love some of the crazy subtexts that people come up with, SuperMechaGodzilla style. As crazy as some of his analyses are, whether you agree with them, they're always interesting to read.
Huh? I don't post on SomethingAwful.
I assumed you did since you added it to the main thread post.

[edit]

To elaborate, I don't even see SA as a comedy website, since I don't ever visit their main page. Their forums are killer. It kind of sucks to pay $10 to not see ads and post, but it's worth it since it's one time only.

He's heard of it before, he just forgets.

On a related note, if 4chan is part of the "murky underbelly of the internet", /b/ is its worst part... I wouldn't go there. The rest of 4chan looks good in comparison, I think...
Oh I guess I have, sorta... I skimmed over the article and just posted a blanket response. I never bothered remembering whatever forum it happened on.
Updated thread for "Will It Blend?"
"to 'sperg out"

Since I'm not a dick like Great Rumbler, I'll put this into my own words. To get another opinion, click the link.

sperg out

Origin: derived from the disorder Asperger's Syndrome, which characterizes its sufferer as being simultaneously socially awkward or emotionally stupid, yet logically, very intelligent. It's somewhere on the autism spectrum. Those afflicted with Asperger's often times don't pick up on the same social cues as a normal person would, likes to spend time alone, is withdrawn, and typically lacks a common sense perspective.

Asperger's Syndrome became a meme when internet users first discovered it and began self-diagnosing. The assumed mindset is that the person finds an excuse to lack people skills, while congratulating themselves on high intelligence.

This sort of self-diagnosis, also seen with things like bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder, became almost a trend in places. Along with seeing it on SomethingAwful, I remember seeing it in other social networks, or friends' blogs. After it became chic to be 'sperg, people denoted the sort of false and indulgent self-diagnosis as "Ass-Burgers", a homophone of the original name of the disorder.

Another word was derived from Aspergers and entered the lexicon of internet dorks. Whenever a person is seen to be dedicating time to something trivial or man-childish, such as writing full encyclopedia-like articles on pokemon fanfiction, they are seen to be 'sperging out. Whenever they take a small detail seriously and blow a lot of hot air about it, often times completely missing the forest for the trees, they are called out for 'sperging out.

That's not very scientifical, Bean.
What's scientifical over PERSONAL? I'd prefer to hear a friend's opinion over reading a wikipedia entry, especially on the subject of recent slang.
Rumors and innuendo, Bean, rumors and innuendo!
