Yeah, because it's not like it's the web designer's fault.

So.... is this rage adamentium based?
Nope, same problem in Firefox too. What, does that site require IE or something? I will not use IE just for broken sites that were incompetently programmed (by forcing people to use that browser).
So I watched it on Youtube, because as I said G4TV's site is stupid. Graphics are fantastic of course, but the gameplay doesn't look very interesting... just another generic shooter. I never did really like any of the Quake games... Doom (1) was fun, but that's my favorite ID shooter. My favorite ID game overall, of course, is the first Commander Keen trilogy.

Oh, and Unreal Tournament >>> Quake 3. I actually enjoy UT...
G4's site works just fine on Chrome.

And the game looks fantastic. Huge world, post-apocalyptic setting, car combat, and lots of crazy weapons.
I didn't have a problem viewing it last night in my browser. True, the aesthetics leave a bit to be desired, but the graphics are otherwise quite impressive. I'd probably rent it if I had the 360.

Wait, can you still rent games (without GameFly, anyway)? I know Blockbusters and the like have been closing down due to Netflix/Redbox, so who knows.
There's a few mail order rental services for games. Gamefly is one but I think I've heard of others.

Blockbuster still has a few open stores here, but that won't last long as I've heard they are preparing to declare bankruptcy. A shame they couldn't update their business model fast enough...
G4 really needs to fix its site for Mozilla browsers, then. Mozilla's browsers are pretty popular, it's amazing that they'd just ignore Firefox...
Actually, it works just fine with Firefox.
Huh, it's working now, in both Firefox and Seamonkey. It definitely was not yesterday.

Really like the variety of weaponry available, definitely seems to add a bit of heft to the combat.
Pretty good trailer... the graphics are indeed pretty good, it's nice you can have more than two guns, and the town segments (talking to people, etc) might add a bit if there's much of it. Also nice to see that it's a more traditional FPS, not a cover-based thing. I assume that it's going to be mostly linear, though. Sure that's how most FPSes are, but some more openness is nice.
I don't think it's all that linear, except for the "dungeons". From what I've seen, it's like Borderlands, but with areas that are larger.

It won't be like Oblivion, no.
Well, it's out and it's awesome.
That's cool. I'll probably get it someday, I guess.
So... what does the title mean?
Nothing.
About as much as DOOM or Quake do, I assume.
Doom meant doom, as in hell on earth, er, mars. That title was pretty clear. Quake, less so, though I barely recall the story. Rage, well, are there angry people? Rage zombies? Something?
They wanted a short, one-word name that was easy to remember. That's it.
Quake 1 was sort of this scifi/fantasy setting, probably because of the game's original origins as a fantasy rpg thing... Quake 2, though, went full sci-fi, and that's where the series pretty much stayed I think,
I picked up Rage in one of the $5 sales ... uh, last year sometime I think... but like many such games, I hadn't played it, until today. So yeah, I'm two hours in now, and the game seems good. It's a pretty straightforward game (neither the shooting or racing is complicated), but I like that it has towns, inventory stuff, simple and yet accessible gameplay, etc. It's no Doom, but how many games are Doom anyway... but yeah, even if id isn't the id of the '90s (and it's definitely not), they clearly can still make good games.

Oh, and it runs quite nicely on my computer, as well. I have the settings on medium to medium-high, and it runs well (at 1280x1024). Very nice, considering my CPU is from early 2007 (the GPU's newer, but the CPU has not been upgraded). I presume part of that is the console focus showing through, though... but it looks quite nice, so that's good anyway.
I'd heard that Rage disappointed a lot of people. They did end up reusing the enhanced engine on the rerelease of Doom 3 BFG edition. I also recall they changed the elements of Doom 3 people complained about (too dark, flashlight and guns can't be used at the same time), and other people complained about the changes. Huh...

One notable change in BFG edition is the total lack of EAX support. Sound no longer accurately echoes based on your relative location and how cavernous the area is. A shame that... Everyone's decided to use pure software based sound rendering, and as a result the quality of sound in games isn't what it could be with hardware acceleration. I blame MS, since they removed proper support for hardware based sound rendering in their newer versions of DirectX.
