If this is true...

Quote:NNO: We love the Yoshi series of games, when can we expect to see Yoshi star in his own GCN game?

SM: A yoshi game is development at the moment, expect to hear something after the release of Mario Kart? -- Nintendo News Online -- DICE Summit 2003

Wooo! But why didn't we hear about this before...?
Oh thats fucking sweet, I just hope it's more akin to Yoshi's Island (or maybe a 3D platformer w/ Yoshi) than Yoshi's Story.
Awesome!

I think they should do it like Kirby 64; 2D gameplay with 3D backgrounds.
Yoshi's Story is still a good game. It's just terribly short and easy. Plenty of replay value, though.

If they can make the game as tough and long as Yoshi's Island I would be in heaven. And I would only want 3D backgrounds if everything was cel-shaded to look like Yoshi's Island. That would make my year.
Interesting. I look forward to hearing more about this title.
Yes, that would be great! I hope it's 2D as well.
Me too...can you imagine a Yoshi's Island game on the scale of a GC disc...? How long, grand, and fun the levels could be...countless cool enemies, great bosses...oh man.
Yoshi rules
Unfortunatly it will probably end up just being Yoshi's story 2
Darunia: Just because it's on a GC disc doesn't mean it'll be longer. The n64 carts hold more data than the SNES ones yet YI is a lot longer than YS. But I'm sure it'll be great.

And neo, right now we know absolutely nothing about the game, yet you immediately dismiss it. What gives?
Darunia, the higher storage won't make the game longer. They could have fit in a massive number of levels just using the N64 carts because levels don't take up much space. It's the textures and sounds and such that take up all the space. Stuff like game physics and level maps take up the least amount of space in a game, and just to make it clear, by a huge difference. When it comes to space taken up, the more important it is, the less data it takes up it seems. As an example, the code for levels and physics would take up roughly a single leaf, while the sound files and image files would take up the rest of the tree.
Beat you to the punch. :p
Well remember, every single Yoshi game ever since Yoshi got his own series ( Yoshi's Island was technically a Mario game by title) has been sub par. This doesn't bode well!

(I really hate to do this, but it seems it's needed lately. YES that's a joke! Of COURSE I know there's only been one Yoshi game after Yoshi's Island and that's hardly enough to gauge the series by! Yeesh, it's funny because I said something absolutely ridiculous! Don't you watch the Simpsons?! And NO I'm not actually angry! Really, I'm not, but it's funnier if I seem mad because it makes me look like a jerk :D.)
I wouldn't call Story sub-par. It was dissapointing compared to Yoshi's Island (and every other Mario platformer), but it was still fun in its own right. It just didn't live up to the gigantic standards set by previous Mario games.
Yoshi's Story was a disappointment, but if this new Yoshi game is more like Yoshi's Island, then I look forward to it. Yoshi's Island was one of the absolute best games ever.
OB1 & DJ, no one beat you to the punch, as it's self evident that bigger media don't guarantee longer games. I was speaking enthusiastically.
Uh, I meant that I said that before DJ did...
I just hope that Nintendo doesn't make this game too easy. I hope this rumor of Nintendo wanting to significantly decrease the difficulty of their games because most people suck at games nowadays (*cough*Darunia*cough*) turns out to be false.
*Declares formal state of war on OB1*

That oughta teach him. :p

Yoshi games do, on the other hand, usually not involve much skill...Yoshi's Island was great because it had such excellent, vast, and unique levels that beckoned to be played. I loved the 2D side-scrolling...and the environments were fun too. Difficulty it lacked; only the last boss took more than one try to kill. I'd rather have that; lots of really long, awesome (if not hard) levels.
I didn't desmiss it, I just made one fo the early predictions that usually turn out to be false that everyone usually makes that just happen to be out of character to me

I'll end up buying it anyways so don't worry OB1
I think it's likely a rumor. Make games EASIER? Never! Challenge is what makes games fun!
Well Aounuma did say that they cut out the last two dungeons of WW because they wanted to make it easier for little kids... but that's a complete contradiction of what Miyamoto said, which was that they were taken out because of time constraints.

And Darunia, Yoshi's Island is a tough game. Definitely a lot tougher than Mario World.
I never considered Yoshi's Island to be too easy or too hard. To me, it's just right.

Oftentimes, if something is a challenge, but I win anyway, I consider it fun. If it's hard and I lose, I consider it frustrating and start saying things I shouldn't. :cuss:
How so, OB1? I've never played Mario World to compare to that.
Mario World is just plain easy. Yoshi's Island is about as tough as Mario 2 & 3. That's not like Mega Man tough or anything, but compared to most games today it is pretty tough.
Mario Bros. 2 and 3 are a LOT easier with Mario World's save system so its not exactly a fair comparison...

Oh, and Yoshi's Island wasn't a really challenging game... not easy, by any means, but not super hard. Like most Mario games...
I agree more with ABF...I found Yoshi to be pretty straight forward. In fact, it is the only game from the SNES-Genesis era that I've ever beaten...not that that really says much, but still. Some parts of it were hard; like the latter levels...especially that skiing one where you had to time your jump...ah, what a great game!
The YI bosses are very easy, but the rest of the game makes for one of the toughest 2D platformers out there.

Did you beat it, Darunia and ABF? And how could not have played Mario World??

Mega Man tough...? I never really had problems with Mega Man levels.
Not even the NES ones? Man, I can't play the old games anymore without dying ten times per level.
the NES ones? Some are tough, but not SUPER hard... the hardest part is probably the first one because it has no save system. And Mega Man 2 on NES isn't very hard at all...

As for modern Mega Man, I didn't find X4 and X5 too hard. Tough, yes... but not TOO hard. Well, except for a few bosses... such as the EVIL eye golem at the end of the first boss level in X5! I still haven't beaten him... so hard... X4, though, I beat. For my first completed MM game since beating MM2 on GB...

Oh, and on the NES and SNES I've beaten SMW and SMB1 but not SMB2 or 3 or YI.
I'm just not as good at 2D games as I used to be.

And don't try to tell me that you didn't have hell with that Mega Man CGC contest. You told me how many times you died.
Yeah, it was tough... note how I said that that was one of the hardest Mega Man games?

But also note, if I remember correctly I won that one... or at least did well...

Oh, and I'm still alright at 2d games. Probably because I never completely stopped playing them...
I beat MM1 several times when I was a little boy.
Mega Man 1, hard? At times the levels can be frustrating (stupid Guts Man platforms, jump NOW.. NO!), but I found that to be quite easy. The bosses especially. I mean, you could literally stand in one place firing away and just watch them die without hitting you once for a few. The rest just require jumping and such. Being able to knock THEM back just helped tremendously. Wily himself on the other hand, he was rather tough, as Wily always tends to be. The hardest version of Wily though HAS to go to Mega Man 7's Wily boss. First form? That's easy enough to master if you don't mind taking a LONG time to beat him. Just learn the patterns, shoot the eye, and slide slide slide! The second form pretty much requires a perfect damage free go against the first form, AND full tanks, just to barely scrape by. I've only beaten it a few times because of how tough MM7's Wily is. MM8's Wily, even though it's a pretty similar final form (and in fact it was used again in Megaman and Bass, and from what I hear again in Megaman 6) was actually easier just due to how the shots worked. The NES Megaman games weren't exactly the hardest in the world, and in fact I'd say they are about equal to the SMB series (minus Lost Levels). You want hard? Play Lost Levels (all stars, not that dumbed down SMB DX version) or Battle Toads. That's tough actin' tenactin!

Darunia, did you perfect the game? Beating it is meant to be easy, because the real challenge lies in mastering it. Did you find EVERYTHING, including in the ultra hard hidden levels? That's where the real fun lies.
I'm not talking about the bosses, DJ.
Yeah, MM1 has easy bosses... but super hard levels that make up for it. I mean, that Guts Man one is INSANE! I know I never got past those evil platforms... though with enough quickload/quicksave I might be able to get through, it just isn't worth it.

Oh, and other than MM2 for GB, I've found all the Mega Man games that I've played challenging... not super hard, but challenging.

Though this eye golem in X5 is definitely very hard.
I've always sucked at Mega Man games. Mega Man 1 was pretty easy, I made it up to the Yellow Demon and lost. (I had an emulator, so I could save anywhere.) Other Mega Man games though... I'm horrible at most of the ones I've played. Well, unless you count Mega Man: Battle Network, but that's different. MM:BN is pretty easy, but still fun.
Yes, I beat it...on my GBA...I've always meant to go back and get all the coins and everything, but as of yet have not. I have all the secret levels, I think; after I beat it they all became available.
ABF: The trick with those platforms is not to try timing your jumps so you jump JUST before the little gaps, but to time it so you jump up WAY before the gaps. Just give yourself enough air time to land on it when it reaches the other side. In other words, jump when there's a platform length between the platform and the gap.

Darunia: Beating it gets you only SOME of the secret levels. You get the levels they added to the GBA version. There is one more hidden level in each world. You get that for getting all the coins and flowers and such in every other level (aside from the GBA added bonus ones) in that world. They are very hard indeed.
But they open up at random times and kill you instantly...
No they don't. Look at the tracks. There are gaps in the tracks and those are EXACTLY where it opens up. It's not random at all.
I did not know that, DJ...only makes sense I 'spose; must be some incentive for getting all those goddam flowers and red coins and all...alas, I'll almost certainly never lift a finger to go back and do any of that.
Why do you need a reward to do that? The reward doesn't do anything anyway. Just beating a game isn't even a true reward. You play games to enjoy them, and do challenges for the fun. That's the only true reward. What does that extra item do for you in the real world? I am rather tired of people saying "but I didn't get anything for doing it" when you don't get anything for playing a game ever.
