Without Ryan's help, I don't I would've ever come across this site. It's not the type of place that you come across when you do a basic google search.

So, how did you guys happen to come across Tendo City?
Back in 1999-2001 the site was actually relevant and was linked by some major Nintendo fansites, most notably Nintendojo and Tendo Box. I read Nintendojo, so I ended up here in late 1999. The forum was created in fall 1999, and lazyfatbum was one of the first members. Originally it was called Tendo City, then Rumble City. Sony and Sega (Shock and Blast) Cities were created. During this period TC was a successful forum, with a reasonably sizable userbase, links from major sites, a monthly contest to win free games (because ice-9 had enough money to do things like that)... the overall site was nurb.com or something like that.

Then, the original founder (ice-9) decided to kill all three of the console forums and only keep open the site he cared about most, virtuafighter.com. The site never recovered in terms of userbase or popularity, not even remotely close... we've been coasting slowly downhill for the most part ever since, though it is impressive that we survived at all really. Ice-9 isn't that popular around here, or wasn't at least, certainly. :)

He did manage to kill off the smaller Blast and Shock Cities (Blast tried to survive as a separate site, but stuff happened and they fell apart and closed down), but Tendo returned to its old name and survived as an EZBoard for a while until Weltall bought a domain and set up this site... which was pretty ironic because he'd first come to TC as a Sony fan bashing everything Nintendo. :)

He'd had a small site of his own before then, CypherStation, and they had a 'console war' with some Nintendo fans on a different forum. Most of the members here are either from then or from when Weltall's old site was sort of "merged into" this one. I never visited that site then, so ask Weltall, Darunia, EdenMaster, or something about that part.

Then much more recently Weltall gave the site to his friend EToven.
I came here because Smoke found my old Nintendo-bashing website, left an unpleasant verdict, and a link to Rumble City.

I'm glad he did.

One thing I found out over the years is that a site like Tendo City faces tons of competition from huge players. If you don't know people (and have media contacts), it's extremely difficult to find wide exposure. It does happen, but it's rare unless your site is niche (the Silent Hill forum that Adam and I frequent is an example--there simply aren't many Silent Hill forums out there, and when SHF.co.uk vanished, Silent Hill Heaven became the only important one. Enough so that it was mentioned in the credits for Silent Hill: Origins).

Your actually saying that this site was actually "Big" at one time? !!!!

What happened to Vanilla Ice-9? Maybe you should invite him over sometime for some tea and sodomy.
When I first came around, there were several dozen members posting regularly.

It was certainly never close to the level of a neogaf or ignboards, though.
My brother posted back on the old NURB family of forums [Shock City, Rumble City, uh...can't remember the Dreamcast one at the moment] so I found my way to the Dreamcast side. I posted there once or twice and then came over to the Nintendo side. This was back in 2000. Ten years ago.
Blast City.

And, it was far larger than Rumble. And I think Shock City didn't even break 500 total posts in its lifetime.

EDIT: 780.

I was a regular poster at Weltall's aforementioned anti-Nintendo website, first as a pro-Nintendo person, then as a double agent anti-Nintendo pro-Sony spy who was actually secretly still pro-Nintendo, and then after that I just didn't give a shit anymore and learned to enjoy any video game for any system for whatever it was worth (though I'm still a Nintendo fanboy). All the participants of the old flamewar, whether friends or enemies before, became friends after the war ended and I was one day invited to Tendo City after Weltall took up ownership.
I came here through Weltall, as the Cypherstation-DF War was winding down. I forget how or when I came here, exactly---its shrouded in mystery. Maybe Weltall can enlighten me on that. I know I was here around February 2000 (can't trust my Join Date because its been edited,) and maybe it was earlier than that.
I dunno. I think almost everyone came over around the same time, around March 2001 or so.
I'm two years behind the general populace then. My join date reads March of '03.
I joined after about a year of calling Weltall and his compatriots PSX-loving faggots.

:D
I joined the day after the old forums opened when it was run by the Nintendojo guys. I spent a lot of time experimenting with personality types and humor types with different screen names on different boards. At Nintendorks I had a few screen names, one was an anti-Nintendo type one was a typical PC graphics whore. It was strange when lazyfatbum went there for fun (that screen name is actually me, personality wise). It's always funny to me that some people cant stand me but those same people love me when i'm under a different name and treat everyone like shit. Projection vs. vicarious worship and blah blah, i will bore you to tears with what I learned.

I've been about 8 people on GAF but its mostly for lulz, I managed to get a few people banned for sparking controversy over whether or not Wii Sports, as an example, is an actual game.

Now I have so many screen names with the personality types attached to them that I lose count and have to make character bibles. You might want to ask me why I do this, please dont. We had several internet celebrities though, who all found work on large sites, I was an editor and writer for several blogs and sites all under assumed names save a few that got the lazyfatbum signature. It's probably my second favorite hobby with playing keys and arranging music being my first frustrational bliss.

...

I also like coffee and long walks on the beach during a sunrise.

...I own a dog.

...

Leave me alone now.
I joined sometime around Spaceworld 2000.
Maybe one day I'll go back through my old journals and see exactly when I started going here. Maybe, one day... but not yet. Not yet.

I recruited you from a Super Smash Bros. messageboard on the now non-existent InsideTheWeb. :)
