All right. The topic has been so popular in Ramble, why not move the fuss to Debate.

We'll start with her music. She calls herself punk. Now, being a fan of ACTUAL punk music, her music is decidedly pop. I think we can all agree on that. None of her songs (that I've heard), sound in the least bit punk. The only reason she can pass herself off as being punk is her appearance, and she doesn't look very convincing either.

The other debate is about her looks. Some find her attractive, and that's fine, but me, personally, I think she looks like she 12. I've seen plenty of hotter girls than her, and will see several more through my life.
Eh, punk music and Avril Lavigne-type music both aren't very good. I really can't tell the difference between, say, NOFX and Avril Lavigne. All a matter of opinion. From what I've seen, though, she is very controlling of her career, and definently very succesful. I dont' think that she is posing as anything that she's not; totally her own image. Back when Britney Spears and the old Christinia Aguliera were hugely popular, music producers wanted to turn Avril into someone like them. She declined, wanting to take her own road. So I respect that.

Yeah, her music sucks, but she is a Canadian, so I gots to stick up for her there.

And she is fuckin hott.
Yes, she does look like she's 12. But lots of people like 'em young...
Wonders if Ob1 was born with a penice or not?
Wonders if Ob1 was born with a penice or not?
No, but I do have a penis!

LOL
Is that what they call them in Venice? Penices?
Poor boy. He can't spell anything right. :D
Hahaha, indeed.
I pee freely.
I want to suspend up Avril Lavigne naked from the ceiling by her wrists and toes while dogs lick honey off her bare ass.

Other than that, she's just like any other teen idol: her music sucks, her singing is mediocre, she's too concerned with image, her personality is obnoxious, and she can get away with all of that because she's fucking hot and stupid suburban teen girls idolize and emulate her.
Okay, I think Sadistic Jellybean here hates her the most...

Hey, ASM has gotten better about his grammar lately I've noticed. Spelling on the other hand...

This from the guy who enjoys rap, which I've heard is considered to actually be music by some people :D.
Rap is the worst kind of "music" by a very significant margin.
I don't hate her per se, I just want to perform really twisted sadistic sexual torture on her fake punk ass while she screams for mercy. Call it a fetish.
Sacred jelly bean how often do you have such fetishes in your home?

...Remind me never to come to your house. Erm
I hate her music
when it comes on tv I just mute and and still watch it(she's nice to look at just not to listen too)
She claims she writes her ownsongs, but it has already come out now that she only writes the lyrics and someone else wrote the actual music, so I am starting to wonder how many revisions were made to the lyrics after she cam up with them
She is definitly not punk, I love punk music, but she is pop and I hate it
What disgusts me most is that MTV asked her to apear on MTV Icon: Metallica, the show is suposed to feature artists who were influenced by the bands music, but she has said that she didn't even listen to any rock until after her album came out, the other bands apearing on it aren't that bad though, I can see how Korn and Lim Biskit were influenced by metallica even though they suck, and I've heard Sum-41 perform a metallica song before and they've said that metal influenced them, but I don't understand why Avril is on it
Teenage popstars are like children: Better seen than heard.
But she's not a pop star...she's a star, no doubt, but not pop.

Britney Spears, Christina Aguliera (old version) are both waaay different than Avril.
And Korn is one of the best metal bands, DLN. They rule.
no offense but Korn is shit!
I hate bands that who put out music vidoes involving foam and puke coming out of their mouths.

Rage agaist the machine is a much better band ,(matrix theme)
I testify was a great track,Atleast their songs all have some meaningful message like how democracy has fallen into hell.

That's precisely what she she is! There's no way she can be anything other than one of the countless other pop singers on the radio. Performing prefabricated songs that suck with sub-par singing, but with enough eye-candy so that nobody gives a damn. Thats exactly what pop is.
Hey, hey, drop the holier-than-thou act there. Pop is successful among the great majority of its audience because it's just enjoyable music, fun to listen to. I'm not gonna contend the fact that it's entirely artificial, and I won't argue for pop fans' tastes, but don't go around assuming the only reason for Britney Spears and co.'s success is because of "eye candy". That may stand true for a lecherous netizen whose preferences tend to black metal and/or Tuvan throat-singing, but there is such a thing as a pop fan.

As for Avril Lavigne's qualifications, dictionary.com sez the term "pop" when used while talking about music refers to something that is "new and of general appeal". Thus, yes, she's a pop star.

Oh yes, how deep and meaningful. Rolleyes
Yea, she is fairly pop...some of her music was nice at first. "Complicated" was nice last summer, but now I cannot stand it. Her newer stuff doesn't due much for me...she's a week younger than me, I know that much...but despite all of that,

SHE'S REALLY FUCKING HOT,

so like her music or not, I like her.
1. She cant sing
2. Her songs are retarded
3. She spells worse then ASM
4. She's ugly
Quote:3. She spells worse then ASM

Yeah, I h8 it when singerz intentionally misspell stuff 2 B kewl. It's so annoying.

Not as often as I'd like. :(

My Friend won tickets to her concert on Tuesday, taunted some little girls with them, then burned them

What I was trying to say in the other post was that I can see why the other bands would be able to say Metallica influenced them in some way, even if those bands do kinda suck, but I can't see how Avril, a country music fan who didn't listen to rock until after her album came out was in any way influenced by Metallica.
he should of sold the tickets instead of being a phycho.
Imagine how many trees went into those tickets?!!!

I agree, Rage has a meaningful message: "Let's make shitty music about how much democracy and capitalism suck while we're signed with the mega-conglomerate Sony/Columbia record label and making millions and millions of dollars from stupid quasi-liberal teenagers who will buy any CD that has an Explicit Lyrics warning on the cover."
Hahaha, well said!

*clap clap clap clap clap clap clap*

*Rimshot!*
Eminem has the problem that he's gotten so rich and popular that he is finding it hard to still be a "outsider" and the like... :)
That thing with the MTV Awards and Conan was hilarious.

Boxing Announcer: OHH, and Weltall dishes out a powerful uppercut against Alien Space Marine! He's looking disoriented...seems to be losing his balance...and he's DOWN! No need for a ten-count, Weltall ends the fight with one power-packed blow! Incredible!

You want meaningful, ASM? Download Sorrow or Skyscraper by Bad Religion, and then try and tell me that any Rage Against the Machine song has more meaning than those.

bwahahhaha

she came to Montreal to, not to long ago. Swollen Members were also sopposed to be with, they on the other hand would have been worth it
Those songs do have alot more meaning than those Rage songs, but you can't say that Rage Against the Machine has no meaning

No meaning? Of course they have meaning. Every song has meaning, even if only slight. I wouldn't call them "meaningful" though. Rage songs are more like...thought-provoking.

Dude...Bad Religion make shitty music with shitty beats and have a lead singer with a terrible voice. And their lyrics mean nothing.

[the late] RATM made far better music than Bad Religion...more catchy songs with lyrics that have meaning...better beats etc. Rage was one of the best metal bands 'till they left the scene.

Eh...yeah I guess after reading that their songs provoke a lot of thought.

Go Home And DIE!
Any Bad Religon song is better than a rap song
Ah, Tendo City: the home of fevered arguing over totally subjective topics.
Uh, and you're one of the worst offenders... :)

Greg Graffins deep, grating voice is what lends Bad Religion it's unique quality, and is far from terrible. Pray tell how many of their songs you've listened to, if possible the names of the songs so I can tell just how biased against the band you have to be to hate them. "Shitty beats" you called them? Listen to Supersonic, the drums especially, and keep in mind those are human hands playing each note and not a synthesizer programmed to. Not many bands can play like that.

The lyrics mean nothing? You're just not listening to them, not reading between the lines. BR uses a lot of symbolism and metaphors in their songs. Take Supersonic for instance, they sing about how the human race is advancing so quickly that you seem to need to go "supersonic" in order to keep from falling behind the rest of civilization. Skyscraper is, deep down, a telling of the ancient story of The Tower of Bab-il. Recipe For Hate talks about how the way America works is asking for trouble. I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

Keep in mind, I've listened to a lot of Bad Religion, and know most all of their songs word for word (including many that were not released in the US). You want to insult Bad Religion, you'd better give something better than those garbage reasons.

Any song period is better than rap.
Were would be with Eminem's "without me"?
The radio would be a bit more tolerable without him.

Not tolerable enough that I'd listen to it. Rolleyes
