Announced recently in Nintendo Power, so it'll definitely be on WiiWare, and presumably PSN and XBLA as well, like the previous one. Trailer available at the link above.

Hmm...

I gotta say the innovation of going back to basics was fine for one game, but really, again? "Roboenza"? Seriously? MM9 was great because it was like a reminder of the past while still being new. This won't be new, and on top of that is just a reminder of last year. If they want to keep the series going, 10 should once again try to innovate. At the very least, the end of the original character story should be in the works at some point. Looks like the slide and mega buster are still out of the picture for now.

By the way, easy mode looks pathetic.
But it is new, Proto Man's playable from the start this time instead of being DLC!

(Rumor says that there will be three playable characters this time though, so are they saving the DLC for the third one?)

And anyway, it's like Mega Man always is... once they have a formula that works on a system, they milk it for all they're worth. They've done that so many times now from the original games on the NES all the way to stuff like the GBA and DS games (four MM Zeros, six-plus MM Battle Networks, two ZX games, two or three Star Force...), so why would they stop now?

Overall I don't really mind. NES graphics still look cool. :)

Oh, as for Easy Mode, it exists because a lot of people found MM9 really, really hard, and they wanted an approachable option for people who aren't really good at platformers.

Practice, maybe?
Mega Man games are not for the patience impaired. :)

But yeah, Proto Man's immediate playability is the only unique appealing factor to this game from the looks of it. And yes, the storyline is a little... silly. But then, a lot of my favorite games have ridiculous storylines, but who gives a crap as long as the game itself is fun?
Well I do enjoy a good story, and I've been waiting for Capcom to wrap up the whole original series story for some time now.

One thing's for sure, it's a lot better than Powered Up.
They couldn't update the graphics any? It looks like 8 bit crap.
... That's the whole point. There are a lot of people that think that the NES Mega Man games were amazing... like me for instance, the NES Mega Man games are probably the best of the whole Mega Man franchise. What's wrong with something that brings that back, but with modern touches? I think it's pretty cool...

Fine then, all I'm saying is why can't hi res artwork be one of those modern touches. There are plenty of other games which have done this without taking away from the original game. For example Super Mario Bros All Stars for the SNES is a prime example of this, it's the old school Mario engine but with 16 bit modern graphics instead of 8 bit. Even though the image files where replaced, it still preserved the original art form perfectly. Even the new Super Mario Bro's for the Wii had some old school Mario code in it, but it's been completely redone, and what's the result? The line in the store to play the demo is out of the department clear into shoes. This is because it brings Super Mario into the modern age but at the same time preserves the integrity of the game. All I'm saying is why can't they do this with Mega Man 10.

Btw, why the hell is a 8 bit game being released in 2009? Was it just siting in a closet for the last 19 years? What's the deal?
Um, no, just like Mega Man 9 last year, it's a new game designed to look like it's a NES game. Mega Man 9 was very successful, so as always with Capcom of course they're making a sequel!

The whole point is to make it look authentically like a NES game. It's doing a little more than a NES could, particularly in terms of game size, but in general it holds very close to the NES... and I think that's awesome, a Mario All-Stars style overhaul wouldn't necessarily be an improvement. Some people like the look of NES Mario over the SNES overhauls, you know. :) (Though the fact that All-Stars alters the controls in a somewhat negative way is the more important complaint, I think)

But either way, it's gameplay that's important... and there Mega Man 9 is rock-solid classic Mega Man stuff from everything I know. It's really hard, evidently, but great stuff. This looks similar, but with an easy mode to make it much more approachable to people who aren't great at Mega Man games.

Oh yeah, and Capcom tried a Mega Man title with classic gameplay but updated graphics and added features. They tried two, in fact: Mega Man Powered Up! and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, both for the PSP. Maverick Hunter X is a remake of Mega Man X, and Powered Up a remake of the first Mega Man for the NES. Both were released in 2006, and almost everything I've heard about them says that they're pretty good (You didn't like Powered Up, DJ? Why not? I haven't played them of course, not having a PSP...). They sold absolutely abysmally. Capcom got the message and stopped making PSP Mega Man games. The next Mega Man platformer was Mega Man 9 for WiiWare, Xbox Live, and PSN, and it did much better. With 8-bit graphics. :)

You know, there's a lot of nostalgia out there for the NES, from lots of people who grew up in the mid '80s to mid '90s... you don't share those feelings I guess, but they're common. I definitely have some. Even if I didn't have a NES then, a lot of people I know did, and I loved NES games and still do like a lot of them... Mega Man 9 and 10 fit into that nostalgia perfectly, except they're on the modern systems so most current gamers can play them.
etoven, you seem to have a terminal case of "not getting it".

They HAVE made them with updated graphics. The SNES and Playstation games, MM7 and MM8 respectively, had updated the graphics significantly.

Megaman 9 was INTENTIONALLY made with 8 bit graphics for the sake of naustalgia. It's like Cave Story. It's not a matter of being lazy, it was an artistic choice. MM9 was a completely new game made from scratch to resemble MM2. No slide, no mega buster.

The weird thing is their choice to make MM10 ALSO resemble one of the NES games.

Powered Up had a number of issues. The most notable is that it isn't all that "powered up". The stages were changed, but there wasn't much point to it from what I could tell. Two new boses were probably the best part of it. Oh, and that graphical style. Unlike Maverick Hunter X, Powered Up went for this extremely "cartoony" style. I don't generally have a problem with such a thing, but this style made everyone in the game look like they came right out of Bomberman. In the same way that I hated the "ultra serious" Bomberman game for ruining the mood, this "ultra playful" take on Megaman 1 kinda messed it up for me. MMX's remake updated the graphics but kept the same basic tone, which makes it a far better remake.

Some people didn't like the All-Star graphics? Haven't met anyone who didn't yet. Those were some very well done remakes in a nice little cart. The controls are exactly the same. The only notable issue as far as controls is in Super Mario Bros. 1 (and Lost Levels by extension) where hitting a block will make you lose your forward momentum far more than it did in the original. Other than that, the games control pixel perfect like the originals. There is a list of minor changes, but the vast majority are there just to fix various glitches in the original games.

They also released the All-Stars pack later with Super Mario World stuck in there. Pretty much exactly the same as it's first release, except World has one added save slot and to match the additions to their other ports, Luigi got his own sprites instead of just being a palette swap of Mario.

Ya know, I wouldn't mind a modern Megaman game having modern graphics, but I think the Megaman team doesn't realize that maybe it was the art style that killed sales of that MM1 remake and not just that it HAD modern graphics. It was also more or less pointless as a remake. MM9 was actually a new game, and the novelty of "8 bit nostalgia" certainly was a draw, but to think that it's what we want "from now on" shows a certain disconnect from reality.
