It's the Warren Spector Mickey game, that one with the amazing concept art... the signs that it'd be for Wii were strong (Spector has said good things about the Wii, etc), but it's nice to see it confirmed.

... In other news, lots of PS360 fans on GAF are outraged... Lol
Huh I thought it always planned for Wii... funny though, since the sales of it will be so low they'll be forced to go multiplat as soon as natal and Sony's POS wander-wand is released. Nice to see that Wii gets first dibs.

Anyway, it gets my approval. The paintbrush instantly tells me that the Wiimote is gunna be a'pontin' which is nice since there's only like 3 games that actually use it for something other than a 'gun'.
Sales will be bad, with Disney behind it? Yeah, likely... :)

Oh yeah, and supposedly Pixar might be doing some work on the visuals as well... Warren Spector, I could see a game of his not selling great; he did spend most of his career at Origin and Ion Storm, after all, both studios that eventually collapsed... but on the other hand Origin did really well for a while, so that's not really why. Anyway he's amazing and it SHOULD sell well. Will it? We'll see. But with Warren Spector, Pixar, and Disney, with a concept as interesting as this and with all this unique art... it should work, and because of the companies behind it it should sell. Sorry, I just don't think it's going to sell badly at all. Some major Wii titles do sell well, you know. The old "major third party Wii games don't sell" thing just is not true.

Also, some of the older concept art can be seen here:

Very interesting stuff for a Disney game... but some Mickey Mouse cartoons and comic books had interesting designs. It's not like Mickey was all happiness and light all the time... look at the comics where the Blob is the villain, etc.

Anyway, I hope that whatever the game is, it's good. It's still a ways off, but the early signs at least have all been very promising. :)
Oh kiss my asshole Falcon, name one high profile game on Wii that's sold (that's an actual game :P) I mean Mario Kart did like 17m which is fantastic but Mario Galaxy and Brawl did like 8m tops (all worldwide). That's pathetic. Those numbers are even less for Zelda even if you combine the Wii and GC sales. I'll make a bet right now: Wii Music will outsell Epic Micky in worldwide sales. If i'm wrong, we all win.

Having said that, if the reviews are positive, I expect lots of new interest in Wii among actual gamers.
Isn't Mickey in Kingom Hearts already pretty epic?

I think that's the first thing people are going to think of with this, hence, this will sell a lot a lot a lot.

It was enough to get my attention.
I think there's a lot of speculation out there that this is kind of Disney's response to, or followup to, or something like that, Kingdom Hearts. I mean, Kingdom Hearts uses Disney properties, but is done by Square... well, here's another Disney-themed, clearly original by looking at the concept art, action-adventure game, except this time done by an American team led by one of the industry's better directors.

If not for Kingdom Hearts would this game exist? Yeah, I'm not so sure... but it's good that it does, it is looking quite interesting, from the very little we know. :)

Spector wants to see kids cry after playing Epic Mickey
October 20th, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

When you think about Mickey Mouse, crying isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. However, Warren Spector’s dream is to see kids crying at Disneyland after they have played Junction Point Studios’ Epic Mickey. Spector told Game Informer:

“As people play the game and they look at things, and they move through spaces and they listen to the soundtrack – I want them to have this feeling of recognition and familiarity, and then I want to yank the rug out from under them. On top of that, I really want to scare kids. I want to go to Disneyland and see a 10 year old kid crying. ‘Oh mommy, the clock tower’s going to come to life and eat me!’ That’s my fondest dream. Disney scared the pants of me when I was a little kid. Disney really needs to scare kids!”

:FuckYou:
New, lengthy interview. Lots of interesting information on the game here, I'd definitely recommend reading it.

... Evidently he wants to make a DuckTales game, but Disney doesn't want to do it. DuckTales is awesome, my favorite of the '80s/'90s Disney TV cartoons... it's really too bad that they aren't interested. Hopefully this happens somehow anyway, sometime!

Quote:WS: Carl Barks really is the greatest American comic book writer and artist ever. Some people would say Will Eisner. There’s competition. But Carl Barks is the best, and he wrote and drew the stories that inspired half of those Duck Tales episodes, and they are watered down. You would not believe the beauty and the power of those stories. They’re not for kids. They’re really very adult or certainly appealing to the broadest possible audience, which is kind of where I want to be now. I don’t want to make games for kids, I don’t want to make games for gamers, I want to make games for everybody. I think if someone did Carl Barks or Duck Tales right, it would be awesome. Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge were Indiana Jones 50 years before Indy was a glimmer in Spielberg’s eyes. It’s just amazing, and they’re doing nothing with him right now.

Indeed.
