I don't understand why sports teams get so bent out of shape over performance enhancers.

Let them juice if they want. Let them all do it.
Eh, it's the rules of the game. That's all. I guess they could change the rules or something, is that what you're wanting Welty? Of course some of them are illegal and dangerous... So there's that.

All I know is people treat it like a national incident, pulling people in front of congressional hearings and just... asking AT them... What's the point of all that?
Steroids are a controlled substance for a reason, they are quite dangerous and bad for your health. There are lots of both short and long term side effects, and legalizing it basically means saying "everyone must do it if they want to be able to compete"; that feeling is bad enough as it is, it needs NO more encouragement! No, legalizing them is a horrible, horrible idea... things were definitely not better in the years before this issue was finally taken seriously from about 2003 on (in Baseball).

Why not? They hold hearings on lots of things, why not baseball too? They know it'll get a lot of press, and congress does have a bit of leverage over baseball thanks to baseball's antitrust exemption (something which nothing else has in the US). Baseball didn't just start testing because they wanted to, they did it because they were forced, pretty much -- "have a good testing program of your own or we'll do it for you!".
Their has been a hole slew of wrestlers and body builders dropping like flies in their late 30's and early 40's all from Heart failure related to drug and steroid abuse.Eddie Guerrero is one example, He died at age 38.

Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and a number of other "mr universe" winners have had to under go open heart surgery to fix damage done by juicing in their youth.
