Hmm... well, on the one hand the Red Sox are off to a bad start, but on the other hand the Yankees aren't doing great either, and their new stadium seems to have some questionable air flow... so yeah, it's not all bad. :)

Also, it's nice to see Ken Griffey Jr. back in Seattle... it's where he belongs, really. :)
Of course it's bad that the Red Sox aren't winning. Yeesh, why is it that Red Sox fans seem to only be able to define themselves based on how well they're doing compared to the Yankees? Is it because the Red Sox Nation can't summon a vision of their own? I mean, they've had over a hundred years to do so but they still can't seem to get over their obsession with the Yankees. Anybody who goes to Fenway Park wearing a "Yankees Suck" shirt or waving around signs saying things like "Jeter Sucks A-Rod" are horrible fans.

In that same division, the Blue Jays are really strong out of the gate and I'd like to see them carry on their winning ways. Halladay's gonna keep on doing his thing and even though they lost A.J. Burnett the rest of the line-up is holding their own. I think they're due for a playoff season, but I'm not getting my hopes up. They've kept pace with the Yankees and Red Sox up until August in recent seasons before running out of gas, but I hope that won't be the case this year.
What, your favorite teams don't have rivals or something? Really?

No they aren't. They're supporting their team. :) (Well, that latter one is bad because of the homophobic tones, but the former ones... no problem there. I don't have one myself (my one Red Sox shirt is a more normal Red Sox t-shirt), but there's nothing wrong with shirts like that. :))

As for the Blue Jays, I'm hoping they don't last... they were good two years last decade. That's enough, the rest of the AL East is supposed to be nice and lose and stuff, and leave the Red Sox and Yankees to be the good teams... :D (Though the idea of the Yankees being terrible is certainly attractive, with how much money they have to spend, I just can't quite see it happening...)
The Cubs offense hasn't looked very good during the first two weeks, but the starting pitching is great so I'm not too worried yet. The Cardinals have been playing really well, though, so it will probably be a tough race to the finish.
Big series for the Blue Jays when they visit Fenway tomorrow. Two wins firmly establishes them as one of the premier teams in the AL, and if they sweep, by golly, the rest of the league better watch out. This is their chance to prove that they're for real.
Yeah, we'll see if they can be this year's Devil Rays... I doubt it, though. :)
Blue Jays this year's Rays? Nah... Rays won 31 more games in '08 than in '07. The Jays only have to win 8 or 9 more games than they won last year and that could be enough to win the division. It's Boston who needs to be most concerned about their fate here. The Rays only have two less wins than the Red Sox so far, the Yankees have won 6 in a row, and Boston's steroid power seems to have run out (Ortiz, who once hit 54 jacks in a season, is currently on pace for zero home runs). Meanwhile, the Jays have the most wins in the entire league despite having three starting pitchers on the DL - they're replacing their injured starters with guys from the Edmonton Cracker Cats for chrissakes, and they still win. Convincingly. Not to mention that they're the best offensive team in the major's at this point. They look unstoppable. Regular folks where I'm from are even starting to talk about baseball and are tuning in to the Blue Jays every night, and trust me, that's saying something. Nobody gave a shit about baseball around here even when Alberta had two minor league Triple A teams, but now there's an interest building among the common fan, and it's pretty great to see. I've been told that people haven't been this excited about baseball since 1992 and 1993. And Toronto's building on this momentum of having a whole country starting to take notice. If you ask me, this series means more for Boston than it does the Jays.
Well, has that been cleared up yet? 2 wins now out of two... :)
Horrible series! How many more runners did the Jays intend on leaving in scoring position?? Something's not right when the league's most explosive offense is held to 1 run each in 2 games, and only 5 overall. I guess that does it for Toronto. There's no chance they'll recover from this. Season over!

Meanwhile, New York has won 9 games in a row. Holy shit.
I've always thought Wakefield was great, it was very nice to see him win that first one, particularly when the team only scored two runs... but it's the other two wins, both much more convincing (with the Jays not scoring more than 2 runs in any of the three games), that really were the tone of the series. Ortiz even finally managed to hit a home run...

You're not the most explosive offense when you're losing most of the time to the Yankees and Red Sox, the league's two best teams... you're just doing a good job winning against the rest of the teams, and then lose when you face your serious competition. Not too surprising. :)

Oh yeah, and the Yankees' recovery is impressive... annoying (can't we have ONE season where they just do badly? Please? Particularly when they spend $200 million on their salary? :)), but given how much they spend, unfortunately probably it had to happen sometime. Oh well... hopefully it ends soon. :)
What, a team's worth is only measured by how well they do against New York and Boston? Give me a break. The league doesn't revolve around those two teams, and it especially doesn't revolve around the Red Sox. They're small beans compared to the Yankees, just like everybody else. Even still, all wins count the same regardless of who you're playing. I know you're up in Maine, but your condescending nature makes you sound like a MASShole (love that term). And any team with a $122M payroll isn't allowed to complain about how much other teams spend. Something about the pot and the kettle or something.

Anyways, the Red Sox come to Toronto at the end of the month. We'll see how they can handle Roy Halladay and the home crowd, which has been quite favourable for the Jays so far. The Red Sox are a sub-.500 team on the road right now, which means that another sweep is unlikely for Boston. I hope that series will be better than the one we just saw.

Their caption farted?
Wait.... New York farted!
Fuck the Blue Jays. They're going to finish last place in their division. They've got no heart left.
