I always did find that kind of strange. Times sure have changed considering France helped us in our revolution and we didn't do jack for them in their revolution. Confused

That's a very good point that most people over look. Thank you for bringing it up.

Geno I have nothing against Canada, really. Some of my friends are Canadian, and besides, Canada has been one of our best allies for a very long time. France is a different story.

Nor do I; hell, I'M FIFTY-SEVEN PERCENT FRENCH CANADIAN!! But when DLN and ASM even approach the point of comparing Canada to America, it makes my blood boil.

I always did find that kind of strange. Times sure have changed considering France helped us in our revolution and we didn't do jack for them in their revolution.

I read an article from an international relations magazine explaining the French stance, how that's a major factor in it. It's sad too; even in 'The Patriot' they give France their share of glory...just twenty years later, American diplomats refused to aid Revolutionary France, even though France sold America all of the Louisiana Purchase for such a discount, and both were fighting Great Britain at the time. That made them de facto allies, but America wouldn't do anything.:(
We (or George Washington, more precisely) decided to be "officially neutral" about the French Revolution... probably because at heart the conservatives who had most of the power just didn't trust popular opinion, here or elsewhere... why do you think they made the only directly elected part of the government (the House of Representatives) only half of one of three branches of the government (remember, for a long time Senators were appointed by state legislatures)... and then we were glad we'd done that when it got violent and turned into a reign of terror...

Quote:Well, if you're liberal and blindly opposed to everything America does

That is just false, by any definition of the statement.

There is a big difference between not liking the actions of one group (radical rightwing republicans) in the US and disliking the US... why you can't see that makes no sense...

I don't hate all republicans, either... the moderates aren't so bad. Such as Maine's two Republican senators... both are moderates and one of them (Olympia Snowe) was instrumental in stopping the 500+ billion tax cut...

I think Canada wants to support America in the war on Iraq. They're a bit late though.

Then why have canadian opionion polls shown the majority support the Prime Minister's position
Yea, I agree with Neo...I just don't realistically see that. They're opinion hasn't changed at all.
Word to the wise: redneck teenagers from your school are not good sources for information. Erm

Hey, I live in Alabama, this place is full of hicks. And mosquitoes. *swat*
Geno, was that directed to me...?
No, that was directed towards myself. I'm taking note of my flaw.
Lol Geno admited that he's a redneck
No, I'm saying the person who told me that Canada wants to help America in the war against Iraq is a redneck. I'm not a redneck! :cuss:
OOOHHH---I get it now. Wow this thread has degenerated into a pile of horse shit hasn't it. Hmm....what to do...ah, I know.

WILD TRIVIA:!

Who knows the difference between a donkey and a mule, seriously?
A mule is the offspring of a donkey and a horse, right? I think that's right, but I do remember one person saying a donkey is the offspring of a mule and a horse. I think he was a bit confused though. Rolleyes
Correct. When a donkey and a horse fall in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together, they make babies...these babies are hybrids called mules. Mules cannot reproduce; they're born androgynous.
And when two humans fall in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together, they make babies and later end up looking like a horse and a donkey.
Didn't ask for your family history, Geno.

*looks at Darunia* Oh lookie there, it's not everyday you see a horse with two rear ends.
You are a streetrat. You were born a streetrat, and you will die a streetrat, and only your fleas will mourn you.

*gives Darunia 20 brownie points for correctly guessing which movie I got my quote from*

I'm not worthless and I don't have fleas. *scratches hair*
Aladdin is one of the very few, select number of élite Disney films I do not hate.

Same here. I grew up on that movie, and The Lion King. Now Disney is ruining their classics with one crappy sequal after another. It's all to stuff their pockets with some poor saps' cash.
Lion King?
Don't you mean Hamlet, little kidy animals addition

I didn't know what Hamlet was when I was a little kid. :S 90% of Disney's movies are based off of classic stories anyway. Of course, they want their fans to believe that The Lion King was a rare exception. It actually wasn't. In addition to Hamlet, it also had a lot of content derived from an old 50's manga/60's anime called Kimba the White Lion. And since Disney's such a powerful bunch of capitalist pigs, they're at no risk of being sued.

WOW, I never realized that---you're so right, too, it is Hamlet..only Simba doesn't die...and Scar doesn't marry/bang Simba's mom. And on your Geno's other point, I also agree 110%...101 Dalmations 2...Jungle Book 2....Peter Pan 2, Cinderella 2...WTF, get an original idea or get out of the goddamn industry.
Walt Disney himself vowed never to make a sequal to Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. I can just picture the Disney execs pouting over it. But why would they need a Snow White II anyway? They already a part two to everything else. :S

But what does the only male lion in a pride usually do to the female lions?
Way to go reading between the lines there, Neo. ;)

That's thinking a bit too deeply into a kids' movie. :p
Wow...this threads gone from a head-strong clash between American and Canadian interests to a discussion on mating habits of lions in nature. Way to go us!!
Now let's change the subject again...

I know!!!!!!!! Let's think up as many problems with society as we can, then blame them on the Mexicans! Stupid lying, cheating, money-stealing, powerhungry politicians! It's all Mexico's fault!
Mexicans buy stereos and TVs with cash. They are getting in the way of the idea of a completely electronic system of commerce. MUERTA A MEXICO!
But they've got a language easier to learn than French, making some people taking language in highschool happy...

Since when is French the only other language offered in high schools? In my school we have Russian...(strange, no?)
I though alot of schools had German too?
My school only has French and German
A few years ago a teacher from Romania tried to start a Romanian class but nobody took it.
Another nearby high school offers Japanese and Russian aswell
I played around with the online translator at http://www.systransoft.com to translate "MUERTA A MEXICO" into English and it came out as "DIED to MEXICO". So, I looked up to die and got morir, then I looked up to kill and got matar. So, I translated mata (which would be the third person singular of matar) into English and got... Bush. o_O Either mata is also a noun for bush, as in the plant, or the Mexicans want to kill our president. Let's assume it's the second one just so we can accuse the Mexicans of something else bad. Darn you Mexicans! ¡Ustedes son unas perras!

On the topic of foreign language classes... we have two at this school: Spanish and French. With the French boycott going on, I doubt very many people will take French next year. I never planned on taking it to begin with. I plan to take Spanish II next year. Even if there wasn't a German boycott going on, I wouldn't want to take German if they had a class for it here too. It's just not a pleasent sound to the ears. :S
Well for us, we had French and Spanish in Jr. High, and French, Spanish, and Latin in highschool...

Matar is 'to kill'... mata is, as that site translates, 'it kills'... I don't know where you got it to say 'Bush' from...

I took Spanish (for 2 years in Jr. High that counted as spanish 1 then 3 years in highschool)... mostly because I didn't want to take French and am bad at foreign languages so I'd rather not deal with the harder one anyway...

It seems if you type mata with a lowercase m, it comes out as "it kills", but if it's with a capital M, it says "Bush". Weird...
I actually wanted to take German (as I have German relatives who speak it) but it wasn't offered until after I had finished a year of Spanish. I ended up taking four years of Spanish, for nothing really, as I can remember very little... which expains my erroneous grammar :D
I took Spanish in high school, because it was easy and they didn't have Italian. :(
I have four years of French, and one of Russian...and in September I'm going to college for a degree in French and German so I can be a translator.
Chuckle @ Darunia's image
That is funny... :)
Hehehe...half of its true, too.
I took French from grade 4-7 and now I've had a year of German too, when I go to university I want to start taking French again and maybe Russian
Good idea, Neo. It's very rewarding to be able to write and read a language written in a different alphabet.
