So I see this commercial on TV and it goes something like this.

Announcer: This Christmas give your wife something special, something meaningful, something she will love. (Zales Diamond Music is playing)

The wife then opens the package, and then gets very teary eyed, Ow honey.....
This is were it gets really fucked up.

She then pulls out a big ass needle! And the announcer says, "give her, a polio vaccine!"

Then she's kisses him, crying... "I love it."

You're lying. You are a liar, sir.

Stop your lying.
I can only imagine seeing that vaccination covered in gift wrappings and a bow.
Polio vaccine? Do people even get polio anymore?

Apparently they do.
From Wikipedia:

Following the widespread use of poliovirus vaccine in the mid-1950s, the incidence of poliomyelitis declined dramatically in many industrialized countries. A global effort to eradicate polio began in 1988, led by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and The Rotary Foundation. These efforts have reduced the number of annual diagnosed cases by 99%; from an estimated 350,000 cases in 1988 to 1,310 cases in 2007. Should eradication be successful it will represent only the second time mankind has ever completely eliminated a disease. The first such disease was smallpox, which was officially eradicated in 1979. A number of eradication milestones have already been reached, and several regions of the world have been certified polio-free. The Americas were declared polio-free in 1994. In 2000 polio was officially eradicated in 36 Western Pacific countries, including China and Australia. Europe was declared polio-free in 2002. As of 2006, polio remains endemic in only four countries: Nigeria, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
It may have been eraticated, but I'm pritty shire young children still get vacinated for it. I think the commercial was targeted towards the 40+ generation who never got vacinated as children. By the way the wikipedia article was wrong about one thing, there was an occurance of small pox in the late 90's reported, the entire hospitable was put on lockdown. It made severial head lines.
My uncle actually went to Africa in the 90s trying to eradicate polio. He wore a mask and a cape, talked with a deep voice, and kicked polio's ass. Of course, his morals didn't let him actually kill polio so it's currently locked up in a padded cell in Arkam Asylum.
Oh yeah? Well my dad was an assassin for the FBI and he got an order directly from the President to travel to Africa in 1988 and personally take out polio. He finally got an opening, but then he saw polio with all his kids and felt sad. After that he retired.
