Wii-24.45 million (as of March 31, 2008)[110]
XB360-19 million (as of April 25, 2008)
PS3-13 million (as of April 21, 2008)[109]

Do we need three consoles?

Has Sony jump the shark?

Xbox has allot more going for it then the PS3, XB360 US$399.99 for XB360 (premium),479.99 for the (elite bundle), US$279.99 (arcade).Higher Install base plus lower price , Makes me believe that the 360 will stay ahead of the ps3.

That being said, I think Nintendo will be recoronated as the arch Lord of gaming.
"Jumped the shark"? What would that even mean in this context?

At this point, Sony's really starting to hold their own with the PS3, against all odds. They'll never overtake the Wii, but I think the 360 may have some competition in the months ahead.

7th generation eh? Do those "single game" systems like Home Pong really even count as a generation? That's like counting the old tiger electronics handhelds as a generation of portables (or Game & Watches for that matter, but in spite of Nintendo's insistance in jamming that "naustalgia" down our throats, I'm pretty sure people in America only ever played the Tiger ones and never heard of Nintendo's own single game portables until Nintendo started pumping out collections of them for Gameboy).
PS3: It still has a chance, worldwide... the X360 was crushed in Japan, and in Europe the PS3 has passed the X360 in sales and maybe units sold. In the US they are close in sales. It'd be quite difficult for the PS3 to pass the X360 in total sales, but not impossible, given Microsoft's weaknesses outside of the US.

Still, of course, both of them have been utterly crushed by Nintendo. Will Sony ever actually make money off of this thing? Who knows...

Hey, I had a Game & Watch.

But anyway, the generation breakdown mostly makes sense... listing only consoles released in the US...

Handhelds don't quite fit into the generations, as it should become clear -- the GBC is listed in the 5th generation, for instance, but it came out during the transition to the 6th generation, it is weaker than the 5th genration Virtual Boy power-wise, and technology wise it's third generation... handhelds are generally just fit in to the generation that seems to fit best considering their release date.

The same goes for the NGPC, it came out in 1999 here but is listed as 5th gen... sure putting the GBC, NGPC, and GBA all in the same gen might seem odd, but the 2600 and 5200 are listed together! The NGPC and Dreamcast had a link cable, too, and were on the market at the same time. Why aren't they listed in the same generation?

Also, Tiger handhelds and all LCD games not Game & Watch titles don't seem worthy of mention, by lists like Wikipedia's...

Addon listing is also random. The Jag CD, Sega CD, and 32X are there, but if the standard is "add-ons that had games that required them", things like the IntelliVoice, the Intellivision computer addons, N64 expansion pak, etc, would qualify too.

1 - Odyssey, Home Pong, home pong clones (Odyssey, Telstar, etc)
2 - Channel F, 2600, Astrocade, Odyssey 2, Intellivision, Microvision, Game & Watch, Arcadia 2001, Colecovision, 5200, Vectrex (the latter three really are a new generation, but because the industry crashed shortly after they launched, they don't get recognized for it... they're in between the early 2nd gen consoles and the 3rd gen ones, really.)
3 - NES, Sega Master System, 7800
4 - TG-16, Turbo-CD (addon), Genesis, Game Boy, Lynx, Game Gear, Neo-Geo, SNES, Sega CD (addon), Neo-Geo CD, 32X (addon) (in between)
5 - Jaguar, 3DO, Jaguar CD (addon), Saturn, Virtual Boy, Playstation, Pippin, Nintendo 64, Game.com, Game Boy Color (in between), Neo-Geo Pocket Color (in between)
6 -Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Game Boy Advance, Gamecube, Xbox
7 - DS, PSP, Gizmondo, HyperScan, Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3
