Bah. And just when I was starting to really like them (and I'll resume my really liking them after their GBA Zelda is shown):

Quote:Capcom Rethinks GCN Exclusivity

Resident Evil series to go multiplatform again, says Nikkei Business Daily.

April 03, 2003 -
An article in the Nikkei Business Daily Friday stated that Capcom Entertainment is "loosening its ties with Nintendo" due to disappointing growth of the console on a global level. The trade also reported that Capcom would -- after Resident Evil 4 -- release future "survival horror" titles for multiple platforms instead of keeping them exclusive to GameCube.
Capcom also has recently come to the conclusion that it should be supplying more games for other consoles, according to Nikkei Business Daily.

The news isn't exactly breaking. Capcom previously announced that it would release Resident Evil Online for PlayStation 2, so it was assumed that the franchise would be available for other consoles in the future.

More as it becomes available.

This isn't a surprise, but I've been waiting for an excuse to make a topic about Capcom sodomizing Nintendo for a while now.

Capcom sodomizing Nintendo

Erm

...

...

...

...

Uh, yeah, anyway, this is something I kind of expected to happen. I didn't really think every Resident Evil game [in the main series] would remain exclusive to the GC.
Well they're two giant video game companies... so they can't actually have sex... and stuff...

Glurge
:( :bummed: Nintendo's business success can be so depressing...
Sodomy ensues (sorry :D)
Wha?

It's been widly known that after Resident Evil 4, the series would become multiplatform (or more likely, return to the PS2). Capcom announced that a year ago when the series was first announced for the GCN.

Hell, IGN even has Resident Evil 5 listed as a PS2 game.
Yeah we all know that, but this is the first time that Capcom has stated that they're pulling the plug on the exclusive deal because of poor GC sales.

Not really. They aren't pulling the plug on anything. After Resident Evil 4, their contract with Nintendo is up. It was always going to leave the GCN (or at least become multiplatform) after 4, poor sales or not.

All that was said is that they are "loosening ties" with Nintendo, most likely meaning that they wont be announcing many more games for the GCN in the future. This sentence:
Quote:The trade also reported that Capcom would -- after Resident Evil 4 -- release future "survival horror" titles for multiple platforms instead of keeping them exclusive to GameCube.
Is unrelated to the poor sales part. As you can see by the sentence structure (it "also" said, etc.).
Its too bad but hardly surprising when they see how much more successful PS2 versions of RE games would be... Its become even more and more obvious this generation that quality games and a decent lineup of third party support (not as much as others but FAR better than the N64 had...) isn't anywhere near enough...

I just hope that for the next generation Nintendo changes some things to draw in more people... a advertising division that does ads that will draw in customers and not repel them... console launched at the same time as PS3... online play...

But I don't hold out much hope. Nintendo and 'doing what is best businesswise' do not go together... good sometimes but not when the result is stuff like this...

This is from the news story that I posted:

Hello??! Is anybody in there? Are you paying attention, Hudson? dissapointing growth = poor sales!!

It's like talking to a monkey!
Ok, and that had nothing (or very little) to do with Resident Evil going multiplatform.

Hmm-kay?
It has everything to do with RE going multiplatform. We knew this would happen back when RE sold like crap, but now we have official confirmation from Capcom.

We knew it when Capcom announced about a year or so ago that the GCN only has exclusivity until Resident Evil 4.
Mario looks at Dante.
"Sodomy Ensues"!

Yes, when REmake came out and didn't sell too well. We then knew that Capcom wasn't going to have their GC games exclusive to that system for very long. Mature games just don't sell on the Gamecube,
*Reads topic, has heart attack*

NO FUCKING WAY! The ONE good shred of outside support for the GameCube! I've JUST gotten so into Resident Evil too! This blows so much!

*Goron troops begin march for Castle von Capcom*

Before then, I'm afraid :D

But perhaps this news isn't as bad as people think. It wasn't too specific. Considering that all of their games were going to be multiplatform (with the exception of RE0,REmake,RE4), perhaps they will still support the GCN, but withOUT the timed exclusivity.

Anyways, Capcom are a great dev, just as long as they don't completely cancel production on GCN games, then it'll all be fine. :)

No we didn't, actually. When Capcom announced all of those Gamecube games it was understood that they would be GC-exclusive, although most of us thought that it wasn't going to hold because of RE's poor sales. Now Capcom just confirmed that lagging Gamecube sales will result in them losing their Gamecube exclusivity.
Capcom had an exclusivity contract with Nintendo that extended until Resident Evil 4.

Why would you assume the games would stay exclusive after that?
I assumed they would, too... it must have been how IGN worded it... and it also made sense why Capcom would have to go through the trouble of using a loophole as an excuse to make a PS2 RE online game that (I'm assuming) won't even be out until after RE4... I mean, what gives?

Yes, that's for Resident Evil! We're talking about the other exclusive games.
Well, Capcom never said that the Capcom 5 would be GC-exclusive. The only indication they gave the these games might be is that they weren't shown on any other consoles and all that really means is that they weren't currently being worked on for other consoles.
Is that so?

Quote:December 10, 2002 -

When Capcom Entertainment in November officially announced five new games for Nintendo's next-generation console, including Dead Phoenix, Killer 7, P.N. 03, Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 4, there was some confusion about the exclusivity of the products. Would they be solely made for GameCube or would they appear for other consoles too?

Today though, in an official memo to the press, Capcom confirmed that all of the titles would be "GameCube exclusives" and that all of them, save for Resident Evil 4, would ship in 2003.

"All of the five titles announced on the 14th in Japan are for the GameCube only," stated a Capcom spokesperson.

More as it becomes available.
Hmm...I say we go burn down their headquarters...
And then steal a bunch of copies of their GBA Zelda game!

Meh, I was referring RE (as I thought you were as well).

Although, I thought IGN announced some time ago that the games would not remain GC exclusive (except for RE)?
*dances* Muffin woo hoo!!!
Hmm...I say we go burn down their headquarters...

I'm all for that. How can sales be bad...? RE0 is part of that buy-a-cube-get-a-game thing...isn't that working? I mean, I have RE0 and REmake; I intended to get the rest, I'm a converted fan...am I the only one! GIVE ME ANSWERS!
Far more people who have PS2s are interested in RE... and not enough of them bought Cubes to make Capcom happy, which really shouldn't surprise anyone...
Nintendo regardless of quality doesnt have the marketing skills of sony or microsoft.
They should, goddamit. REmake has been, and remains to be, my favorite GC game...Rogue Leader, Winde Waker, Metroid be damned! Capcom, you whore! You better not go Sony-exclusive!
Microsoft is sony bitch and Sony is Nintendo whore.

So Nintendo are paying Sony for sex?
That made zero sense, ASM.
