Technically GTA IV is actually GTA VI

But they changed the chronology and no longer count the 2d games.
Oh, and by "Muslim" I meant "Ottoman Turkish", because those were the people who converted the Bosnian Muslims from Christianity.

Quote:But they changed the chronology and no longer count the 2d games.

Huh? No, it's Vice City and San Andreas that don't count, not GTA I and II.

Confusing....

VC and SA were full sequels.

We will have to wait for the next game to solve this.
San Andreas and Vice City didn't get numbers because they were both based off of the GTAIII engine. GTAIV is an entirely new engine, so it gets numbered.
I don't think GTA 2 had a new engine though, did it?

ASM is right, I knew about this a long time ago, but it is a bit odd.
A cascading fountain of butt brownies, let me understand this:

You're talking about GTA's......... TIME-LINE? wtf STORY? did Red Dawn happen?? Am I the only one not taken by a pod yet, Great Gatsby, there's no STORY!? Yeah fine, there's a story, a huge intricate multi-layered story. It's a good thing dinner was good because i'm tasting it all over again.
I don't think "continuity" really even exists in the series. I mean... maybe I dunno.

All I know is I'm sure there's at least one person named "Yoshi" in Germany RIGHT NOW. Thank you internet.

I am disappointed that none of the characters from the previous games have appeared, Except Laszlo.

SA had Claude and Catalina .

Ive been anticipating Carl Johnson to just pop up! :(

We get really attached to our characters.

You cant fly planes :(

No tattoos or barber shops :(

I have yet to find a car modification site like they had in SA. The Cell Phone and internet is the only new feature in this game,Besides the changes to combat.

Rocket launcher is easier to get, Explosives are more powerful in this game.:)

The city is highly detailed and full of easter eggs :), Best Liberty city game.
Niko's Backstory:
http://kezins.com/2008/05/09/behind-the-...re-gta-iv/

Quote:Many of you playing GTA IV, are aware of the current missions and only some of Niko Bellic’s past. Well, Kezins.com has contacted RockStar Games and tried to decipher the criminal mind behind Niko Bellic all before he arrived to America!

Name: Niko Bellic
Age: 30 years old
Weight: 187
Eyes: Brown
Born: Croatia

Notable Characteristics: Scar over his left eye, limps off his left leg, European accent

Background: Niko grew up in war-torn Serbia. Niko’s father, Karmalaf Bellic, bullied and made life difficult for Niko. His mother, Milica Bellic, was very caring and felt sad that her son had to grow up in such a harsh environment. Niko also fought in the Bosnian War as a teenager for the Serbian Army. He witnessed and possibly committed numerous atrocities which deeply affected him and gave him a cynical view on life. A defining moment in the war for Niko was when his army unit of fifteen young men (including him) were ambushed by the enemy. Niko barely escaped with his life, but most of his friends were killed - he later discovered that two others also survived. Realizing that one of them tipped the enemy off to their location, Niko vowed to track down the culprit, not solely on revenge, but because he needed closure.

When the war ended, work was hard to come by in the country. His cousin, Roman Bellic, moved to America to start a new life in Liberty City. Niko, knowing only violence most of his life, turned to the criminal underworld for the next ten years while at the same time searching for the two men who survived the ambush. At some point during this interval, he was arrested and imprisoned for Drug Smuggling. Sometime after he was released, Niko joined a human trafficking ring run by Rodislav Bulgarin. Niko eventually discovered that Florian Cravic, another survivor of the ambush, was living in Liberty City.

When a boat sank during one smuggling run, Niko managed to swim to safety, but everything else was lost. Bulgarin believed Niko sunk the boat and escaped with the money onboard. Niko denied this, but Bulgarin’s decision was final and he was too powerful a figure to fight back against. Niko quickly joined the crew of the Liberty City bound cargo ship Platypus and fled Bulgarin. Roman had been asking Niko to come to Liberty City to share a new life of money and women, which Niko wanted, but he mainly wanted to find Cravic and escape Bulgarin’s wrath.

Upon arriving in Liberty City, Niko realizes that Roman’s tales of success were lies: he lives in a tiny apartment, runs a small taxi depot and owes gambling debts to several criminals. Niko ends up working for Roman, protecting his cousin from the loan sharks that keep harrassing him. Roman soon loans Niko’s services to friends and enemies alike, which angers Niko although he needs the money, and sets in motion the events of the game.

Niko’s view of American culture is one of confusion and mild disgust. The rampant materialism annoys him and he has trouble relating to Roman’s fascination with the country. Plus, after working for so many criminals, he feels that everyone in Liberty City is a crook.

Niko is voiced by Michael Hollick.

Just a few more... come on, you can do it...

http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings...rankings=y

That is, PS3 GTA3 is now below OoT, and X360 GTA3 is only 0.019% ahead of it now. OoT will hopefully reclaim its rightful place soon. :)

... does Metacritic have an "overall top" listing page? Looking at individual rankings, though... GTAIV, 98% on both platforms; OoT, 99%. Link
To answer the question posed in the threat title: No, it isn't. Not even close.
As I just said, GTAIV has dropped below OoT on Metacritic, and on Gamerankings one version is below it and I bet the other will follow. Because yeah, as good as I'm sure it is, I think people do agree that it's clearly no OoT.

you'd think the first GTA game not to have Tanks available even with cheats, Is even deserving of "greatest game ever".

The 2d games had tanks, Every PS2 game from GTA III-SA had them.

If your looking to fuck around on killing sprees across town, I think San Andreas offers more! In Los Santos you can command gang members to follow you and assist in the mayhem.

Not to mention the riot mode!

All you get in GTAIV is a fucking chopper, Thats machine gun canons cant shoot shit.

Were is the F-22? The Tank? Apache helicopters?Remote controlled explosives? Katanas! Throat slitting? Kung fu lessons?Decapitation?Flame throwers ? They have yet to include Dogs and cats!!

I could fly P-51D mustang fighter planes in San Andreas!

Is that some silly attempt at toning down the gore?LOL!

Or is it a means to extort money for online updates?

I can still lit cops on fire!

I cant even pick up bowling balls to hurl at bystanders in the Bowling alley, But I can hurl soda cans!

Is surfing around a imaginary internet with "parodies of real websites" really all that fun?

Once GTA IV mania calms down, I think a better assessment of how we've been short changed will happen.
There are no tanks in GTAIV? I wasn't one to go on major killing sprees in the GTA games, but there is something cathartic about driving a tank around town and just running over shit.
Yeah, they took out stuff like to make the game for "plausible and realistic". But all they really did was make it "bland and not fun". I mean that too, the whole game just feels really by-the-numbers and there's almost no sense of acomplishment anywhere in the game and only a handful of missions are actually fun to play [like the Bank Heist] and your stupid friends call you ALL THE TIME and virtually nothing at all to distinguish it from any other GTA game but its graphics.

The missions were often repetitive most were the following, "Kill this guy", "Chase down and kill this guy before he escapes".

The bank heist in GTA IV, Is incomparable to the Casino Heist in San Andreas, Not to mention there was a good few missions you had to complete before the Casino Heist, that were fun. It was like a oceans 11 moment in GTA SA.

The best moment in SA was burning marijuana with the truth hippie character.

I thought they were going to have prison break mission for Gerry, But guess what Rocketstar never thought of it!!

Tell me? Did you see any Police bikes in GTA IV? probaily not!

The cell phone does provide some few Conveniences, In SA you had to drive all the way back to where you started in order to redo missions that you failed. Besides that the cell phone can often be a pain in the ass, When you have unwanted calls.

So much of the stuff that made SA great is missing from this so called sequel.

The loss of the Tuner autoshops is a major one, I loved modifying my vehicles in GTA SA. I once rigged a taxi cab with back fins and nitro boosters.

The music is shit!! Every channel is garbage!

Once GTA IV mania ends, A change in assessment will come among the fans once most reach the end of it.

The only fun thing on the Tv was the "republican space marines", Obvious spoof at current American politics.

It doesn't deserve a score of 10-10!! Even 9-10 is too generous,I think 7.9-10 or 8-10 is a far more accurate score.

The only improvement is the Graphics and being abled to take cover around corners while shooting. The GPS map system is helpful for navigating , The cell phone can be a convenience. Oh yeah you can get drunk which can be humorous.Other then that all the new editions pale compared to what is missing.

Bowling Sucks!Darts are retarded!8-ball is the only reasonably fun mini game.

Comedy acts and cabaret shows suck! It could have been made as something fun if you were allowed to heckle the performer or better yet shoot them.

Bugershot and Cluckin Bell doesn't have a workable drive through to speed things up.

Car washes are pointless! Where is my autoshops?!! Why cant you have free rider mod cars anymore?
Yeah, once all the hype wore off, I saw GTAIV for what it was: GTAIII with a new coat of paint.

Almost everything in GTA SA was better.

See what I think their trying to do is sucker us into giving more money, In downloaded updates.

Ive finally beat the piece of shit, "out of commission" had so many frustrating aspects, Specifically the chopper which is so fucking hard to make it to the happiness island without being shot down.

http://www.Whattheydonotwantyoutoknow.com is a way of getting the cheats, Secret shit,Easter eggs. Like the location of every pigeon.
I found a wiki article on the top selling franchises of all time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bes...franchises

As I had thought, Pokemon is bigger than most, with Sims right behind it. Mario however still tops it. However, that may be counting every single game that has Mario in it, like Mario Party and so on, and not the "proper" action series.

Final Fantasy outsells GTA, but to my surprise Zelda is below it. In fact way below, under Madden (which is tied with Tetris and GTA at 70 mil according to the chart), FIFA, and Tom Clancy games. After that comes Nickelodeon games (ugh) and Gran Turismo.

Zelda at least makes the top ten, and 52 million's pretty nice. It doesn't compare to Final Fantasy and nothing beats Pokemon except Mario.

At any rate, GTA is not the biggest selling franchise of all time.
No one said that GTA was the biggest selling franchise of all time.

However, it is worth noting that GTA has less entires than those other franchises.
Yeah, there are many fewer GTA games than Mario games... on a per-title basis, GTA must be very high on the list.

Don't take a vacation to Liberty City. Or if you do, make sure you wear a bullet-proof vest and have some health packs stashed away.

Interesting article on how GTA IV doesn't live up to its storytelling potential (in comparison to things like The Godfather or Scarface)... read it.
Part of the reason that GTAIV's story doesn't work the way the creators wanted it to because inbetween cutscenes of Niko lamenting his gangster lifestyle you're having him gun down dozens of people in the streets and stealing whatever cars you happen to come across, making all of the cutscenes come off a hypocritical rather than poignant.

Very good point. It's a general problem games have. In order to have gameplay, you need to have a LOT of fights. So where a fantasy novel has maybe a fight every once in a while, spending lots of time on plot and character development, political intricacies, etc, a fantasy game needs to spend 90% of that time with you fighting things... so in your average fantasy game your characters wipe out an entire continent's worth of random wildlife and badguys by the time they're done. Books or movies aren't like that... it does make it really hard for me to find credible characters like "the innocent one" or whatever when they're in a party of people constantly killing things. Um, what are you doing all day? The disconnect between gameplay and story can be huge at times, for sure. It's the same here.
Dark Jaguar Wrote:Maybe YOU are...

It's almost impossible to play the game otherwise.

And certainly nowhere near as fun.
