Quote:In an Arcadia Magazine interview with developer Playmore, it was confirmed that the upcoming crossover fighter SNK vs Capcom will be hitting all three major consoles as early as this summer. The news (courtesy of Gamerfeed) contradicts earlier reports that the game would initially be released only in the arcades.

Also revealed in the interview was news that Hugo, the Andre the Giant look-alike from Street Fighter 3 and Earthquake of Samurai Showdown fame would be included in the game as playable characters. This brings the current known lineup to be:

* Ken Masters
* Ryu
* Chun-li
* Kyo Kusanagi
* Iori Yagami
* Mai shiranui
* Hugo
* Earthquake

Additionally, Playmore revealed that the concept behind SNK vs Capcom would be "SSI," or Simple (simple controls), Speedy (speedy controls), and Insight (deep gameplay). The developers stated that the game would be "not a match," implying that there would be no tournament structure. How this will affect gameplay, if at all, is unknown.

We'll have more on SNK vs Capcom as it becomes available. Be sure to check the media page for a couple scans from Arcadia Magazine that show character artwork for both Hugo and Earthquake

Cool... I certainly didn't expect this game to come out on the GC... I only hope this rumor turns out to be true. Its not like many people can afford Neo-Geo carts, which for this game would be $200 to $300 or more...

Oh, in case anyone didn't know, yeah there are still games being made for the circa 1989 Neo-Geo arcade machine, even though SNK died... such as this game. :)

ABF, are you really that surprised it's coming to GCN? Capcom Vs SNK 2 came to GCN ya know, before the XBox version.

I hope it's based on the Neo Geo Pocket Color version. I had a friend with a copy of that game, and from what little I played, it rocked. For one, it actually was more than just King of Fighters: Introducing the Street Fighters. It actually had characters from all the franchises, like Mega Man, and Arthur of Ghost and Goblin fame. It also had character switching mid battle. If they combined all the goodness of SNK vs Capcom (there was also all sorts of other stuff, like Smash Bros Melee style mode of play where you actually took the characters into challenges similar to their respective games, oh and the assortment of other challenges for single player goodness) with stuff like Capcom Vs SNK's groove system and character strength levels (and of course make the latter something where you can pick the strength level, like in Capcom Vs SNK 2), I do believe the best of both worlds would be realized.
Sweetness. Any game with Mai is an instant buy for me. :D
Ah. I guess I do have to explain more... just for you, DJ. :)

A few years ago, before SNK died (that happened in 2000), Capcom and SNK made a deal to use eachother's characters in games. Capcom soon made Capcom Vs SNK, and its sequel Capcom Vs SNK 2, which recently came out for all three consoles.

SNK, however, went out of business, so the fate of SNK Vs Capcom was for years unclear... until recently when Playmore, the Japanese company that bought the assets of SNK after it closed, announced the existance of SNK Vs Capcom: SVC Chaos...

Now, this is a different game in a different series by a different developer than CVS1 or 2. This is made by Playmore....

http://www.snkneogeo.co.jp/official/svc/svc_e_top.html

This is all the official Playmore site has now -- a picture. Click the link... it does look cool...

And Playmore hasn't released any games for NGC or X-Box... they haven't even released US PS2 or Dreamcast (Yup, they still support it... they just released KOF 2002 for it... in Japan) ports of the last couple games (Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, KOF 2001 and 2...), as far as I know! So hearing this -- that not only would it come out for all three consoles but it'd get a US release -- is VERY good news if its true...

One more thing. This game, remember, is made by Playmore who, like SNK before it, works on the Neo-Geo hardware... remember it? It came out in the late '80s... its a 16-bit system too. Very old, but it has a huge max cart size (the last several King of Fighters games for example are about 950 Mb)... I bet that this game will be around 1000 Mb too...

As for characters, I expect that the number will be like the KOF games -- maybe 40-something characters.

As for the gameplay style, all we know is this.

Quote:Additionally, Playmore revealed that the concept behind SNK vs Capcom would be "SSI," or Simple (simple controls), Speedy (speedy controls), and Insight (deep gameplay). Sweet. Let's just hope they don't add any cheap special moves to the c-stick this time.
*sigh*

Didn't I just get done explaining that this is a SNK (er, Playmore, but they have the rights to all of SNK's stuff and published all Neo-Geo games for the last few years) game, not a Capcom game? How hard is that to understand?

Anyway, remember Capcom cancelled the only 2d fighting game they were making? For now they are out of the business...
Uh, I realize that. The reason why Capcom did that with Capcom vs. SNK was because of the GC's lack of buttons.
Well if you knew much about SNK you'd remember that the Neo-Geo has 4 buttons, not 6 like Capcom's arcade systems, so there isn't a problem with the modern consoles... its a Neo-Geo game so it can only use 4 action buttons... perfect for all 3 current consoles.
Ah, I see. The GC also has the small d-pad problem though...
That is true... but its not a point that makes the games unplayable... Mortal Kombat V plays just fine on it...
I'd rather play it with a Controller S or Dual Shock 2.
Actually, I was aware of a large amount of that, except for the explanatino regarding playmoor not releasing games for GCN (which surprises me). In fact, if you read my post, you would find I in fact love SNK vs Capcom for Neo Geo Pocket Color (made by SNK rather than Capcom).

The rest of what I said stands. I really want them to do this game SNK vs Capcom style instead of Capcom vs SNK style, so I can use Mega Man in a fighting game again.
I don't remember there being a previous SNK Vs Capcom game... really? Huh...

And yeah, in Japan Playmore has only released its Neo-Geo ports on DC and PS2... but I guess they know that this is SNK's biggest game in a very long time (I mean, when's the last time anything made by them showed up in the normal US media? Like, 1995? :) ) since its got Capcom's name in it, so they'll push it more here too... which is very nice to know.

Now only if they confirm this as true...

Oh, and it would be nice to see SVC as opposed to CVS... though I wonder if it'll be the inverse of CVS in that the SNK characters will be overpowered and the Capcom ones too weak... because Capcom made their guys better... oh well.

Now all I wish is they'd abandon the Neo-Geo MVS arcade hardware and release games for newer platforms... it'd be nice to see what they could do with semi-modern technology...

Oh and as for the game structure all we know is this...

Quote:The developers stated that the game would be "not a match," implying that there would be no tournament structure. How this will affect gameplay, if at all, is unknown.

Which makes it look like it won't be tagteam like the game you describe or 3v3/4v4 like the King of Fighters series is.

I also wonder if it'll have those options to use either Capcom or SNK styles of power meters like the Capcom vs SNK games do... since SNK ones usually seem to build up as you attack and Capcom ones at you get hit or block...

Oh, and Mega Man would be great!
Yeah, SNK vs Capcom was released for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, and as I described, it's very cool indeed. Many consider this, of the two crossover games made by the two companies, to be the better one. The graphics and sound weren't much (you fought with super deformed characters), but it really did everything right. It copied the Marvel vs Capcom style, as I said, with mid battle character switching and a similar combat style. All the characters were quite evenly matched, so there wasn't any of this developer bias that many people claim is in Capcom's series. As I said, all the franchises, not just the two fighting ones like in CvS, are represented. I much prefer that for the same reason I prefer Smash Bros in our reality to what it could have been, nothing but Mario characters bashing it out (sure it would have been fun, but it wouldn't settle any disputes on who's the strongest in milk bar fights). Capcom did do the innovation of "grooves" and "power levels" though. Combining the two, as I suggested, would be the best. Character switching is VERY important here though. Since they ARE after all calling it "SNK vs Capcom", I don't doubt they are going to copy the NGPC game's style. Oh, in Capcom vs SNK DC version, there is a Neo Geo link up option where you trade points between Neo Geo's SNK vs Capcom and DC's Capcom vs SNK.

Ah yes, I am looking forward to this (I got CvSNK 1, but was disappointed when I compaired it to SNKvC that my friend had, so I skipped CvSNK2) so I can enjoy all the goodness in the amazing 2D power current systems have :D. I do agree with you by the way. They need to move on from the Neo Geo arcade machine to something current like Triforce.

One last thing. Nintendo should consider letting these guys put the Crystalis main character in SNK vs Capcom. SNK DID make that game in it's entirety after all. It would be a nice gesture at least to let them USE their own character in this game.
Well, look at the 8 announced characters. They are not all from Street Fighter 2 and King of Fighters... the last two on the list anyway. Earthquake is from the Samurai Shodown series and Hugo from one of the SF Alpha games (I think... either that or SF3...)...

Oh, and since this is a new game for major platforms, why should it copy the old NGPC game? It looks like they aren't based on the very vague description they've given...
Well, SNK vs Capcom for NGPC had simple control layout as well (had to, it had so few buttons). Also, why wouldn't they base it on that? The graphics were poor but the gameplay is solid even by current standards. Oh well, speculating won't get us anywhere. I posted my hopes, now we wait...
Sort of on the topic... anyone else notice how in the article title IGNCube called it "Capcom vs SNK"? Bad IGN!

And yeah, all there is to do now is wait...
Yeah you better fix that, Fran. :p
Yeah... they got it right at the other IGN sites...
Huh.
Not exactly correct... I just checked. X-Box has it wrong as well, but its rightly called SVC at IGNPS2...
I forgot to mention before, Mai better have the proper "giggle". Got me Playmore?!
They made KOF 2001 and 2002 and didn't leave it out in those games...
Ah.. the KOF giggle. The pioneer of video game breast-giggling.

The latest Video GameSpotting... watch the first one. He sure likes Neo-Geo a lot... I only wish I could afford the system, but prices are so insanely high...
http://www.neo-geo.com/

Three gameplay movies of SNK Vs Capcom (Neo-Geo version), with 7 more coming soon! It looks great! :)

Only problem is no confirmation (and I REALLY doubt it'll ever come...) that it'll come out on Cube... but that is hardly surprising. I'd bet its Neo-Geo and PS2 only... oh well. It still looks great...

Movie link! 20mb.

http://www.snk-capcom.com/videos/svc_demo_scdotcom.wmv

Its the complete E3 trailer... unfortunately that's all Playmore is showing of the game. :(
I'm really looking forward to this one!
Yeah, its looking great... it'd be better if there are more than 16 characters, but with characters that large and that much animation, there's only so much even a 8 or 9 hundred megabit cartridge could hold... and the character size and animation in that game is extremely impressive for Neo-Geo! Only the games with smaller character lists (read: not King of Fighters) can pull it off on that system... but this well might be the best looking game yet on the Neo...

Now all we need is a US version of this game for home consoles! Even PS2... we haven't exactly gotten much in the way of Neo-Geo ports (for Dreamcast/PSX/2) in several years...

And if these are the only characters its a decent mix of the most popular ones and some less well known games...
http://www.snkneogeo.co.jp/official/svc/...a_top.html

Four new characters announced! Its up to 20 now... wonder how many there will be. With this graphics quality probably not too many more... we'll see.

Vega, Balrog, Kasumi, and Mr. Karate.
I wanna see a GBA Capcom vs. SNK game. That'd be cool. An SNK vs. Capcom GBA game would also be great.
