Finally came across this. Some people just don't like providing evidence for their claims, but I guess that's fine.

At any rate, this is an atrosimacy. Mario has never been all that fast, EVER. Oh well, I guess I'll get over it. I mean hey it's all cartoony and such and they can always just give him some sort of powerup. Still, it's far more of a stretch than, say, a bear using a bird as a plane.
We DID tell you this already. It's not our fault you're untrusting.
It's up to the person making a claim to back it up, not the person hearing all claims from all the strange peoples of the world to work through each and every one and prove or disprove them all in turn. And, that latter example shows exactly WHY that's the case. I mean that's basic rules of argument right there. There's no denying it, it's how it works. It's called "burden of proof".

That said, what a weird game.
Okay, Miss I-Have-To-Be-Serious-About-Everything.
:D

Does everything have to be a fucking argument?
With some people here? Yes.
Sometimes I wish we could just talk about things without every thread turning into a debate. Also there's this thing called Google. It wouldn't take very long to find out if there really was a Mario and Sonic game coming out. Oh but right, it's our responsibility to provide sources for all our claims. Yeah well, fuck that. If you don't want to believe what someone tells you and you don't want to investigate further to find the truth then that's your problem. I've never met anyone in real life who asks me to provide sources for everything I tell them when we're just talking about FUCKING VIDEO GAMES! I mean holy shit dude, this isn't politics, it's not life and death shit. It's a damn hobby.
So defensive...
Yeah, that's it.
SMOKE CUT HER TITS OFF AND STOMP ON HER!

*gets a high-pressure horse-semen hose*
First you must defeat me in great combat. *laughs all evil style with the whole dismissive hand gesture* You peons dare to challenge me?

Srsly though, I was just asking you guys to provide some sort of link. No need to get all bent out of shape about it. You could decide not to, but yeesh, I can't be expected to look into every single claim. There's too many! So, I take the enlightened position of dismissing everything out of hand unless there's proof attached. I swear, you peons... :D
We posted the promotional picture. How is that not proof?
Chillax dog. I was just asking for a link, not your first born. From my perspective it's you guys who blew it all out of proportion. That pick looked crazy but I had no idea it was anything other than a joke.
Why do you say things like "chillax dog" and "mang" all the time?
Zomg!

Anyway, this could very well be a thread about the game. A thought.
In Mario 1 Mario could run pretty fast...
I suppose, but not as fast as Sonic.
I guess, but he was pretty fast. They slowed him down later on...
Well actually there have been direct comparisons of Mario's speed in various early Mario games. He's apparently fastest in Super Mario Bros. 3, and second fastest in World.
I see you also have Mario Mania.

Did you all know that Mario holding a turtle shell in Super Mario World can swim faster than Frog Mario in SMB 3?

I have no idea why I remember that but it probably has a lot to do with being a giant nerd
In fact I do. I also recall something about him being able to run faster uphill than down in at least one game, but I forget which one. I do know that to measure Mario's speed they went by "blocks per second" as the measurement.

The funny thing is I remember a few interviews with Miyamoto in that player's guide (back when player's guides were frickin' GUIDES) where he says it's not like people ever recognize him or anything. I wonder if that's changed by now.
I can recognize him just by the pattern of his face-moles.

As far as the speed of Mario all I can say is that it is easily the whitest discussion i've ever seen. My face-mole recognition is pretty white but the dynamics of Mario's speed w/turtle shell underwater or comparitively through the series? God DAMN that's white. I dont mean to offend anyone but it's borderline asian I mean someone's about to break out the home-made robots and i'm not stickin around for that.
Oh so a BLACK person can't be a nerd eh? A BLACK person doesn't have the frontal brain power to build a robot right? I see! I GET IT! It's ALLLLLL coming clear to me now!

Finally came out of your room eh?

Yeah, that's believable. But in the GB games, Yoshi's Island, and the 3d games he slowed down a LOT.
Well Yoshi's Island was about Yoshi, and the only time you controlled Mario, he was still a baby, what sort of speed are you expecting?

The GB games had to work with the smaller resolution and bigger sprites. They had to slow him down.

The 3D games went a different way than the 2D games, a way that worked, but needed to slow Mario down. DK is slower in DK64 too.
Than in DKC? Yeah, you're probably right, but the characters in DKC never quite felt like they were going at Mario-like speeds, like Mario did in Mario 1, 3, or World..

Of course, as you say there were reasons, but the pace of the games was slower. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just true.
