Full Version: Why isn't anyone talking about Super Paper Mario?!

I'm very dissapointed in you, Tendocity!!
Oh right, that's out this week isn't it?

I might pick it up some time, but to be honest so far the game hasn't really grabbed my interest, after "New" Super Mario Bros... (That game just wasn't as grand as I had hoped.)
The next words I want to hear out of your mouth "I just bought Super Paper Mario.", okay?
Believe me, my heart aches for it. I want nothing more than to zoom to the store at this very moment and make it mine. Alas, funds are prohibitive to such behavior...It will grace my collection soon, the sooner the better, but alas, I cannot get it at launch.

As of now, only one Wii game demands I buy it at launch. By now, I shouldn't have to say which game that is.
Metroid Prime 3? Super Mario Galaxy? Super Smash Bros. Brawl?
It's EDENMASTER. The latter, with NEWCOMER, Sora!

I guess the only video I saw of this game just made me think standard platformer, instead of kick-awesome RPG style game. Perhaps this one is better than New Super Mario Bros? To be honest I haven't heard anything on it since I heard it was getting released on the Wii instead.
DJ, it's essentially Paper Mario done as a sidescroller. Looks awesome... :)

The game definitely has been hyped, but it sure seems to deserve it. The complaints about 'too much text' sound stupid. The only valid complaint I've seen is one that said that it's a bit easy... I'd have to play it to see how true that is, though. Anyway, obviously I can't get it now, but I definitely will sometime.
Haven't seen any videos since that first one. Anyone have a link to a more recent one?
I definitely plan on picking it up, but for now I'm working on the huge backlog of unplayed games I have. After finally finishing Final Fantasy 12 I'm now enjoying the greatness that is Shadow of the Colossus. The game definitely lives up to the hype.
Right now I'm attempting a feat I've often wanted to try: a No Sphere Grid game of FFX. I'm in the Thunder Plains now, and the difficulty is really starting to ramp up.
Quote:I guess the only video I saw of this game just made me think standard platformer, instead of kick-awesome RPG style game.

It's both, but without random battles or turn-based combat. And it's awesome, so that's really all you need to know about it.
Any videos to back that up? I want to get interested in this.
Are hyperlinks spoiler material now?

IGN is DEAD TO ME.
Man, Super Paper Mario is soooo much fun. I can't BELIEVE how much fun I'm having with it.
Over the "yars" I have picked up that GR seems to find requests for videos or some sort of link to something proving his point to be somehow offensive.
I gave you a link that goes straight to a page full of SPM videos. What more could you possibly want?
Oh right, in that spoiler text. Forgot about that.

Thanks Ted maybe next time you could do it without the sarcasm? Seriously, what are you so offended about by me just asking for video? I just haven't seen anything.

*checks site*

Huh, Gametrailers eh? More like, never once show you a trailer.com! I clicked on 3 of those videos and got 3 commercials instead! Well I guess I'll not bother bookmarking that site. First impressions are important.

The fact that it would have been so easy to look it up and fine some, I think, and that with a game as awesome-looking as this, you probably should have before now. I'd expect that's it.
I just asked for a link, that's all. The one I got was some weird advertising site or something. It's not like I know the ENTIRE contents of the internet, or even every single "popular" site. Besides that, nice catch 22 there. It takes the videos to show how awesome it is which would be my motivation to watch those very videos to begin with?
It's in the Paper Mario franchise and is being made by Intelligent Systems. What more could you really need?

... and as for that site, it's a perfectly fine game-videos site... they all have advertising somewhere.

Maybe you should click on the videos that say "GAMEPLAY TRAILER" instead of the ones that say "TV Spot"?

:p

It is true that there are often ad videos before the one you're actually trying to see though, I believe...
So I rented it, and...so far it's...*cringe*...okay. I hate saying that about a Paper Mario game, but the whole platforming/2d-to-3d stuff is just odd. I'll keep at it and see if it gets better, but right, now, it can't hold a candle to the greatness of The Thousand Year Door.
Well anyway I saw an in depth video and it convinced me to get the game. It is good, but it is about as much an RPG as Zelda 2 was, which is to say aside from gaining XP and talking to people, it's an action game.

That's not a bad thing at all, I'm just saying don't expect an RPG. That said, as of yet I'm also of a "okay so far" opinion. Maybe it'll get from okay to great. It's just, well, there hasn't been much of a challenge so far. The enemies when translated to straight action are just way too easy.

Turns out, that WAS the issue ABF. Apparently that site goes one extra step and actually just forces you to watch an entire commercial before they show you anything. No thanks. Not worth the pain.

It's thirty seconds. Just go to another tab until the movie comes up or something.
Bringing up a whole new window and pressing mute is effort I don't want to bother with :D. Remember, I detest being pitched to, more than most really. My "hangup" about ads prevents me from finding any jokes, even otherwise good ones, funny if they are in any way attempting to get me to spend money on something probably.

Really though, it's the intrusive ones that bug me. A banner here and there never bothered me, until they started crawling around the screen and yelling at me about ring tones, and somehow managing to get around all manner of popup blocker sometimes, and then there's the full screen "in 30 seconds you'll get your page but maybe if we show this really long it'll sell you something". Are there any actual studies to show these things to be effective at all, aside from extremely limited statistics that, due to said limitations, can't even give enough data to tell if the ad in question was responsible for the sale, or if that, if it was the nature of the ad or really just the fact that someone was made aware of a product and really that person couldn't care less if a talking mule told him about it or if it was plain text explaining it?

Seriously, murder is bad and all, but maybe marketters should have certain rights revoked...

Get out of here, you pleb! SPM is AWESOME, not unlike other awesome things created by Nintendo! Like Twilight Princess...and cake...CAKE!! Do you hear me?! I can't believe you don't like cake! That's CRAZY!!

Just about every gaming site on the internet that steams game videos plays a short commercial first. And they're only about 15 seconds long.

That's why tabbed browsing is better, darnit! :) Even Microsoft has finally figured that out, the newest version of IE finally has it...

Agreed. It's annoying, certainly, but not something that will keep me from watching an interesting video.

I hate banner ads with sound so much... those things are incredibly annoying... :(

There's this particularly bad bee one I run into every so often that makes a constant buzzing noise that can't be turned off without reloading the page and getting a different ad...

And that's what so good about AdBlock.
Yeah there's tabs and all, I'm just saying creating a new tab is a bit much. I like convenience. Plus I might forget what I was just reading, no seriously, like 5 seconds ago, gone, and I might stare at a blank page for a while just wondering what I was about to surf to.
Chapter 4 in SPM is the stuff of legend. So much greatness in a single level...

I never have fewer than three to five tabs open, so it's not exactly a problem. :)
spm is very cool. not quite as brilliant as I was hoping it would be, but I really enjoy it.
Have you made it to Chapter 4 yet, Bo?
Aren't you talking about Chapter 3, the nes-y level? I don't like the space level as much so far. That's where I'm at.

When I got up to the part where that dude needs toilet paper, for a second I thought that mario would have to perform duties as tp, since he's paper after all. I giggled, and then sighed because that wasn't so.
My birthday is in one week (April 24th). I shall get a Wii then with my birthday money. One of my friends already bought Super Paper Mario for me. I will get back to this thread once I have played it. :)
This alias is a little confusing. Why aren't you calling yourself OB1? Does anyone in the corporate/family world really know you as "OB1" anyway? Did you log into your profile and change your password at least?

Hmm, for some reason I thought that was Chapter 4. Oh well, it's awesome either way.

It was...HIGH-TECHNICAAAAAALL!!!! nerr
I shouldn't even be looking at this thread just yet.
I am close to finishing the game and it definitely isn't up to par with the past games in the series, but it is still a lot of fun. I think someone mentioned it earlier, but Mario is really the only character you use for most of the game. Peach comes out when there is a long jump you can't make and Bowser comes in to take out some pesky enemies more easily. I am fairly impressed with the story for a Nintendo game, though. There are hints about the Count's past which become clearer as the game goes on, and there are always questions about Dimentio's motives. I do like the 2D/3D switching, but it is a shame that the series has gone so far away from its RPG roots. I like the action-RPG take of the series, but it has gone too far in the action direction and there are only scraps left of the RPG genre.
