I have bought that novel but I haven't got around to reading it yet. I just finished Haunted. The stories Exodus and Nightmare Box give me chills even still.
To me, the most disturbing story is, and always will be, Guts. I got shivers when my friend first read it to me.

The most disturbing story I can remember reading was one I saw on the net four or five years ago, depicting a demented young man drowning an infant in a tub of bleach and describing it in great detail.
The description of the Japanese officer getting skinned alive by a Mongolian soldier in Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was also pretty gruesome.

I just meant out of all the stories in Haunted, not all the stories I've ever read. But Guts is still up there in the latter case.
